Great little hack and theme. Not too long (took me about 30 minutes to beat and about an hour to 100%), and really high rate of collectibles per minute. 9/10.
| Very cool hack that puts your Metroid tech skills to the test! | spiderfreak1011 | 2023-08-06 | Version 1.4 |
A really cool and well done hack! This is the first Zero Mission hack I've played where I felt my skills with Metroid after having played the full series and learned/mastered tech such as Shinesparking and Shinespark Refreshing via running up slopes was truly tested. There were several fun puzzles that involved me using wall jumping and Shinesparking to my advantage which were very fair and not aggravating. The sprite work and backgrounds are also very nice, I really like the black and light blue color scheme, and the unique Suit upgrade you get in this hack has a really nice color scheme for Samus as well. The hack had some really nice color schemes for the bosses it reused from Zero Mission, and gave different strategies to fighting them that fit this short, fast paced hack as well. Overall I was really impressed and had a fun time, though I would say this hack is definitely more meant for people very familiar with the 2D series due to its need for Shinespark puzzles in order to complete the game, not newcomer friendly. Definitely one of the better hacks I've played so far, so great job to Captain Glitch for his work on this hack! I found out that Captain Glitch, creator of this hack worked on several other Zero Mission hacks I plan to check out in the near future, namely Spooky Mission 1 and 2, SR387, and Scrolls 6. Excited to check them out after seeing his great work on Deep Freeze! The only small nitpick I have is that, for a game named "Deep Freeze", the planet doesn't look all that frozen. But I will admit I'm biased because I played Metroid Subzero (another ZM ROM hack) before this one, and that one went above and beyond to make it look like the planet had completely frozen over. However, that hack was just pretty barebones and made to be very short and mostly just a sprite showcase, and this hack is much more substantial in a lot of ways in comparison, so I still prefer this one overall. Total playtime from in-game file counter: 50 minutes, 23 seconds. Total playtime from Wii U Daily Activity Log: 1 hour, 39 minutes Item Collection Rate: 67%.

Hey, what's up. I just wanted to take a moment to say I loved every minute of this hack. Absolutely innovative incorporating the frozen planet story. Loved the graphics changes and the new progression of finding gear. However I don't think it was large enough. It didn't take me very long to complete it, and there were so many opportunities to add new content. Various areas that were left out(i.e. Tourain) could have been replaced with something new. Crocomire was added to some hacks, why not this one as well? Replace old Mother Brain and reborn Mother Brain with new Bosses. A second battle with a more difficult Chozo maybe? These were just some of the things I would've liked to have seen, that would have made gameplay much longer and more satisfying. I felt dissapointed when I reached the end of the game, as if to say, "Wait. That's all? REALLY!?" Even a way to go back and fight MB before escaping the space pirates would've been nice. I guess what I am really trying to say is that this hack left me wanting alot more. Over all a really great job. Thanks and please do more if you can.
