Reviews

A good hack overallTimaeus2022-09-21Version 1.0

While not being as good as 2 Another in my opinion, this hack is still nice. I liked the take on trying to make custom robot masters too, and they were nice first attempts too, even though they are mostly edits from others, but everyone starts somewhere.

The level design is good, and it is fun to go through overall. A few parts are too empty but nothing major, and it is not too busy like in other hacks with more edits, so props for that.

The weapons are actually good, and better than the ones from 2 Another. Soul Man's weapon is my favorite. Nice take on Bubble Lead and it works much better than the original, on both damage and function. It is very nice to play around with. The other weapon edits are good, even being minimal. It could be better, sure, but they are abit better than the original MM2, which is already a plus on my book. Good job.

The graphical work is not that bad. A few areas could have better tile usage or edits and some have wierd transitions, but in general, they are good and work decently well. Nice Castlevania feeling on the Wily stages too.

The bosses are kind of a mix bag, but mostly, they are really good. There are good ones and bad ones. I loved Soul Man's fight (which is the best take on Bubble Man's fight with few edits that I can think of right now), Liquid Man's fight is a good fight too, and it is very possible to buster only, no damage, which says something, considering it uses the take of "Heat Man but he slides while standing still". Normally, fights like these are not well handled, but this one is. Amulet Man's fight is good and Shock Man's fight is actually very possible due to the room layout. Clock Man is not very good, since his "zippings" are too fast and, since it is based on Flash Man and combined with the room layout, makes the fight abit too tough to react properly. Torch Man could be a good boss, but the room layout makes damaging him way too hard. Blade Man is ok, but it would be much better if the projectiles were visible and better to react to. And finally, Danger Man's fight, which is bad. His Bomb is literally undodgeable due to how crazy fast he shots them, and his running speed is way, way too fast too. I could not beat him without taking damage, only with his weakness, so keep him as the last boss to go for.

The new sprites are good, and I actually liked the takes on the vanilla robot masters sprites that were used. Again, they could be better, but they are good for a first attempt, and it even creates a charm to it, which is nice and fresh.

Overall, while not as good as 2 Another in my opinion, this hack is still good and I do not have much against it at all. I even think it did the weapons and bosses better than 2 Another.

I recommend it.

Rockman 2: Plus!

Levels: Okay

Graphics: Good

Music: No Change

Enemies: No Change

Bosses: Eh (Few Changes)

Weapons: Eh (Few Changes)

Castle: Good

Difficulty: EASY

Comments: A good hack for someone that wants a more laid-back challenge. Some robot masters are pretty brutal (Flash Man) but a lot of the stages themselves can be finished first try. Despite not having a lot of gameplay changes, it's a fairly solid experience that doesn't leave you feeling frustrated nor underwhelmed.
