This is a tribute to Megaman 3.

It is the classic game with graphics extracted from the Metroid saga for the most part.

The gameplay has been changed very little, and the difficulty is between easy and medium.

The four Doc Robot stages and the Break Man stage have original graphics.

It also has some easter eggs.

I didn't like the music in my own way. Not because it is poorly written, but because it does not fit the stages. Really - the stages in the level design are made - good; in terms of the graphic part - good, but the music is "Not suitable for the stages and just not to your taste"

Hack is good in level design and in graphic design. And this is good and important. It really looks juicy. I recommend you to familiarize yourself.

I don't have a lot of things to say about it.

The only teeth-grinding part I found in this MM3 hack is the beginning of Magnet Man's stage. A little bit tricky to traverse in my opinion. But Rush Jet helps a lot, so it's not that big of an issue.

Other than that, this was a really nice experience from beginning to end.

It's not the most creative thing ever, but the level-design and enemy placement are solid for the most part. And it's arguably easier than the original MM3, due to the abundance of E-Tanks, and fewer annoying enemies.

This is a great MM3 hack.

The level design is solid, but it has a few issues, like how the game punishes by using Rush Jet instead of Rush Marine in one section, or how you can die by falling in the wrong way while going to another screen (the hack likes to put spikes where you are suppose to fall on the next screen sometimes, making half of the area where you will fall unfairly deadly on such screen (the other half has proper ground). I did not had problems with it, since I felt in the middle all the time, but that is still an issue. Also there is one part where you slide to progress to the next screen, but the first thing that you see are spikes, but suddenly a platform appears on ur feet. Its likely to kill the player because they could not see the platform spawning beforehand. But other than that, the level design is good and solid overall.

The art is, in simply put, GORGEOUS. Even being from another game, the hack managed to use the tile limits to the max, as well as the 4 colors on every palette line (I assume one of them is ALWAYS black just like Megaman 1, which cannot be changed, but this hack managed to use it to its max potential to create a good mix with the other 3 colors. A really nice graphical importing if you ask me!). A few sections made the background look like solid ground, but it was very rare. Even using 4 colors for background, they do not look confusing for the most part. There was only one part where I though the ground was not solid, due to it not being bright enough like the rest, but that is about it. I loved every single stage's graphics. Also, very nice use of colors too.

The musics were.....meh. I am honestly not a big fan of hacks using other classic Megaman hacks, but some hacks that did that managed to make them fit. This one repeat Pluto's theme all the way towards the end of the game, which felt wierd. That makes it very unfitting. Also, I do not think some songs fits the levels at all. Choosing songs from similar themed stages from the classic games would have helped more.

Overall, music problems aside and a few level design flaws, this hack is pretty good. Give it a try.

I have had the absolute pleasure of watching Jriva grow as a hacker, though I have been a fan since I first played Mega Man Hyperion 3. This work is just impressive, not just because of how much has been changed, but also what changes have been made. Most notably, this has all new stages, and the level design is very reasonable; this can definitely be played without states. The tilesets are spectacular, like the strange patterns in Shadow Man's stage, the flaming city from Fire Field in F-Zero in the background of Gemini Man's stage, the wild ruins in Top Man's stage, and the indescribable environment of Gemini Man's Doc Robot stage. Many of the tilesets are taken from Metroid games, and I must admit that it took me an embarrassingly long amount of time to realize that the title is a combination of Justin and Bailey. Best of all, Jriva's trademark cameos are present in several stages! In addition to all of this, the music has all been changed to tunes from other Mega Man games, and the selections are some of the best music in the entire series. Excellent work, Jriva!

A rock-solid vanilla MM3 hackemma_essex2018-05-20Version 1.0

This will be replacing MM3 in my usual rotation. It makes up for a number of MM3's shortcomings, such as feeling drawn-out and lacking general stage difficulty and does it through some solid level design.

The good:

  • Great use of Metroid tiles. The adaptation to the NES palette looks great across the board. The cycling palettes in Gemini Man's stage and the use of the sorely underutilized parallax scrolling on that stage are fantastic.
  • Wonderful selection of tunes from MM4-MM6, which I've always felt have had the best of the NES Mega Man soundtracks.
  • Level design is on-point. Some clever things here and there that got a smile from me and some tough jumps. I suppose they may be "pixel perfect", but I found it all to be fairly easily overcome. I LOVE how short the castle stages are, and it feels like the Doc Robot stages are a bit shorter too. A much appreciated change. Along with the fact that the Doc Robot stages now have their own tilesets and music, it feels much less "filler"-laden than MM3 usually does.

The less good (more detailed in order to help the hack author identify issues):

  • I could personally do without the couple truly referential moments - Metroids and Samus in the background, or the location of Break Man's fight - but it's not intrusive enough to have me groaning.
  • The Mega Man 5 boss music used as the castle battle theme has an issue where the bassline loops a bar before the rest of the song, and gradually desyncs hilariously. The Mega Man 6 boss music is also used, but is missing a bassline note change right before the loop. As well, one of the tunes (I think Crystal Man's theme?) has a section where the bassline is completely out of tune.
  • A Doc Robot stage requires you use Rush Marine for a section, and if you try to use Rush Jet (it allows you), it scrolls to the next screen, Rush teleports out, and you fall on some spikes. not sure how you'd force Marine on the player in this case but I think punishing them like this for using Jet isn't the best idea. There's another section in a castle stage where you can jump over some spikes to the next screen, but when you get there, it's more spikes, and you die. You're supposed to use Rush Marine, but this isn't signaled. By removing the platform close to the edge of the screen allowing the player to jump, you would force them to use at least Rush Jet, if not Marine. These are the two major issues with the level design.

The issues are ultimately minor and didn't get in the way of me enjoying this one. It's rare that a vanilla Mega Man hack does so much right, let alone find its own identity. As stated at the start, this will be replacing MM3 as my go-to way to play "Mega Man 3", and it's wonderful to have a fresh take on it that just works.
