Rockman EX Levels: Good (Occasionally Okay) Graphics: Okay (palette change) Music: No Change Enemies: No Change Bosses: Eh (weakness & damage changes) Weapons: No Change Castle: Eh Difficulty: MEDIUM (Wily stages are MEDIUM-HARD) Comments: EX is an average hack that excels in its level design—but not much else. Stages have a good assortment of enemies to help keep you on your toes, although it will occasionally oscillate between too lenient (Bomb Man) and too punishing (Guts Man). But similar to the vast majority of Mega Man 1 hacks, the lack of significant adjustments to the boss AI or weapon abilities firmly keeps the hack from ever achieving greatness. That, and the hack falls apart in the Wily stages, devolving into a frustrating, enemy-spamming mess. I'm on the fence about this one, but the bad taste that Wily 3 left in my mouth leaves me with more negative feelings than positive.
| Awesome level hack! | Insane Mame Gamer (IMG) | 2023-06-05 | Version 1.0 |
All in all I really enjoyed playing this level hack. It really feels like an official release. It has the perfect balance of difficulty, meaning it's not too easy and not ridiculously challenging either, like far too many other hacks. The level design is really good, the moderate colour changes and the graphics are also really good staying true to the original game which I really like. I can only hope that creator of this hack creates another one similar to this because this one was flawless or pretty close to it and it's not everyday I have the pleasure to play a hack as good as this one is.
| Very well crafted level hack | PatchesAccent | 2021-12-01 | Version 1.0 |
This hack was great way to experience Megaman 1 again. With great new level designs, interesting combinations of enemies and really neat added background details in some of the stages. Highly recommended to any fan of classic Megaman.
| Outstanding level hack! | Timaeus | 2020-03-05 | Version 1.0 |
This level hack is just super damn neat and lovely. A lot of love was put into it and it was an amazing voyage. The level design is gorgeous. The combinations of enemies, the obstacles of every screen, the various ways to pass them, you name it. The hack really makes you think about how to proceed through every screen, and it's an amazing challenge that requites timing, thinking and careful moves if you use the buster, and it turned out to be a heck lot of fun to go through! The palettes of the weapons, stages, enemies and bosses are really fresh and neat. Not only they look so nice but there are small graphic details that complement them super well, like the cut machine graphics in Ice Man's stage, the little city as a background on Wily 1, and the rest of the vanilla graphics were placed together in a creative and pleasuring way to look. So many little details that ended up making me smile while playing. My only two issues are the Flying Shells in Guts Man's stage(I think the first half really did not needed them. That part felt a bit much, so I recommend using Ice Slasher to kill them and making them stop spawning, if that still works here) and the part in Wily 4 before the teleporter (The platforms where you must deal with Tackle Fires are too small and requires special weapons), but you can cheese them with weapons and I still loved the idea behind them. This is a must play level hack that really deserves so much love. It is tons of fun, it is pleasuring and also lovely. Download it away! You will enjoy it.
| Interesting Composition | Mother Kojiro | 2019-03-18 | Version 1.0 |
This hack reminds me a bit of something Akitoshi Kawazu might make. NO! DON'T LEAVE JUST YET!!! I meant that in a good way! Chances are that you've played all or most of the Classic Mega Man games plenty of times, and plenty of hacks to boot. Some focus on new weapons, some on ASM hacks, some on level design, some on graphics, and some on any combination of the above. This one focuses on tinkering with the mechanics that already exist. From a mechanical standpoint, everything is put together in such an interesting way that really makes you not only think about how to use the tools available, but also learn more about how they work. This is prevalent not only in the level design, but also in bosses' weaknesses. One good example is that would have been much less likely to notice that the Mega Man clone hops away from you every time that you press the attack button; here, it is a trick to exploit to make victory something other than agonizing. On the aesthetic side, there are new palettes for each of your weapons - Magnet Beam notwithstanding - and each of the stages, though a few do also get new tilesets. The new weapon palettes are all great, and while not all of the new level palettes are great, they are at least interesting. Even the way that the stages are put together is aesthetically pleasing. This may not necessarily be something that I'll play again, but it's something I'm glad to have experienced at least once, and I recommend that you do the same, if you are a Mega Man fan.
