| The NES finally gets a decent vs fighting game! | scorpion23 | 2023-06-05 | Version final |
I can't believe that, from a mediocre bootleg game that it didn't even care it s*cks, we got an outstanding unofficial port of MK3 for the NES! The authors put everything they could here, even the fatalities, most of the special moves, ALL of the fighters and scenarios, and secret fighters! Now, there's potential to make even MK1 and MK2 on the same style!
| It is definitely my favorite Mortal Kombat 4 Hack for NES. | Vallenatero2015 | 2023-05-25 | Version final |
By learning the special attacks of my favorite fighting girls (Kitana can now fan throw, Mileena can throw Sai Long sword or Sonya can throw spirals), I can really enjoy the game. I recommend it not just for Kitana, Mileena, and Sonya (after all, all fighters have powers to offer), but for the entire game as a whole. By enabling the babalities, it makes the opponent transform into a baby. It also has better graphics and really cool music. That's why I recommend it.
| I am stunned that this was pulled off so well! | Wolfie | 2023-04-19 | Version final |
This is as good as I think it would be possible to be for a version of UMK3 for NES. Tons of special moves and fatalities and fun. Very polished.
| More Advanced Than MK Advance | Eldrethor | 2021-08-31 | Version final |
It's funny how an unauthorized bootleg can be elevated to such greatness that it completely outclasses an official release from Midway. That's exactly what Vasil did here with this hack, and it's so good that it makes Mortal Kombat Advance even more of a shameful dumpster fire than it already is. For reference, MKA was a port of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 for the GBA that was so bad that it was unplayable, and every gaming magazine hated it. With that in mind, it's hard to imagine the same game running with any modicum of quality on a NES. Yet here we are; the base game is unsurprisingly mediocre, but the hack completely transforms it into a beastly port of UMK3, crammed with as much of the original game as humanly possible. Familiar stages are beautifully rendered with lots of gritty details and dark, grungy color pallets. Digitized voice clips make it even harder to believe that it's running on a NES. The 8-bit renditions of UMK3's soundtrack are solid as well. Keep your ears open for the theme song from the 1995 movie. What's even crazier is that the hack expands the base game's meager lineup to include UMK3's entire roster, along with secret characters, and they are gorgeously rendered with fluid animations and impressive levels of detail. Signature moves and fatalities are all there as well. Bonus: select Kitana or unmasked Sub-Zero, and hold Up + Start before the round starts. My only gripe is that Motaro is the only character that can't be selected by any conventional means, and I wonder if it's because of space limitations on the character select screen. If anything, I would have gladly swapped out the Kano-copy Noob Saibot to make room for him. Overall, this hack is pure gold, doing what Midway failed to do with MKA. Not only is it an astonishingly good demake, It's also the most robust fighting game that I've seen on the NES. Highly recommended.

This hack - I was neutral about it at first. Like, a pirate hack is just a hack to improve the pirate. But the author and his team of pirate - made remake of a REAL FIGHTING game on the Nintendo (Last com). When they make a terrible project (although this is not the worst version of MK) - a Good project.... I'll just shake hands. changed from graphics and techniques, to introducing some of their own ideas. I JUST RECOMMEND IT
| Congratulation and suggestion | BZXGCS | 2020-02-19 | Version 14_69d |
When I play through the game for the third time, I believe the game is the best FTG game on NES. The graphics are amazing and sounds are perfect. I have some suggestions on the details of the game: 1. Shao Kahn's laugh should have sounds. It feels a bit weird when Shao Kahn laughs but I hear nothing. 2. It would be better if the move list could be expanded a little. I play the game on android phone, but for peoples play the game on real NES, press start to make special moves or run may be not so convenient. In GBC UMK3 verison(by z80artist), forward+A+B is run. What's more, holding down+back and press A+B is sweep. And if possible, commands such as forward+forward+B, back+forward+B can be used in the game, for more moves like Shang Tsung's change. 3. It's a miracle that the game can be played on most emulator. On Android, it works perfect in nes.emu. But in other Android emulator, the background works wrong. 4. Another suggestion on special moves:back + A may be better for roundhouse kick, because AA may be mixed up with press A fast. 5. A bug: When Subzero freezes a character then throw him away, the character will stand there until Subzero finishes his move. The correct scene is that the character unfreezes immediately when he was thrown away. 6. Let me add something about emulators: In pocketnes, an emulator on gameboy advance, only some characters work well. However, the game can go through. The background works wrong. My unofficial nes player works same as GBA.
| Outstanding project, 10 out of 10. | Boomhauer | 2020-02-18 | Version 14_69d |
I've been following Vasyan's development of this project from as long as it has been made public on YouTube and I couldn't wait for it to be done, always testing the updates he kindly releases and always being very impressed every step of the way and the progress done. When the final version was released recently, I couldn't wait to finally play it. It was well worth the wait. The sprite work is excellent, the sound effects are outstanding (voices and all), the levels look incredible, the moves and fatalities are all there and are very impressive and the soundtrack added in this last iteration was the icing on the cake! The attention to detail is incredible, this is a love letter to Mortal Kombat and NES fans everywhere, finally uniting both of them in beautiful holy matrimony. More than just a curiosity demake, this is a very fun and playable hack that stands well above the competition of even officially released games of this franchise, such as many Game Boy ports and the infamous GBA broken release, which can't even be compared to this. I like hardware variety, so here's a battery of tests I put this hack through down below. My console collection is far from complete, so obviously I can only test on console models that I own, so your experience may vary: Xbox: Nestopia and NES Classic mini - both working well, the latter slightly garbled menus only, gameplay is not affected. Wii: FCE Ultra GX - working well on standalone. It loads on Wiiflow FCEUGX, but garbled, glitchy backgrounds, but sprites are not affected. GameCube: FCE Ultra GX - works okay, with occasional slowdowns. Nintendo DS: nesDS - loads, but garbled, including sprites and is unplayable. PlayStation: imbNES - mapper not supported, black screen. PlayStation 2: FCE Ultra GX - not working. FCEUmm x.3.3 - working well. PlayStation 3: Retroarch (FCEUmm core) - working perfectly. PSP: NesterJ (AoEX R3) - Loads, but garbled. NesterJ (AoEX R3 SP) - same results. PlayStation Vita: Retroarch cores: Quick NES - doesn't work. FCEUmm, Nestopia UE - working well. I hope that saves you some time if you were to try any of the above! I can't wait to get my hands on the new N8 Pro so that I can play it on my actual RGB front loader! Thank you Vasyan and friends, for making this project a reality.
| WELL DONE! | UltraEpicLeader100 | 2019-03-11 | Version 7.5 |
This is with out a doubt some black magic that you managed to make this better than the Gameboy port of Mortal Kombat 3 and hell you even got fatalities in the game. Now that is absoutly awesome! Could you try your magic on "Mortal Kombat 2 Special"? I'd recommend this to general audiences but be warned. this game is hard as hell.
| Pure ultimate | Szemigi | 2018-12-17 | Version 5.4 |
Excellent that I can now enjoy UMK3 as a NES hack, I love especially the colors, but the select screen colors are amazing, too. Congratulations, you did it!
| OUTSTANDING! | RealGaea | 2018-11-27 | Version 5.4 |
Plenty of Stages that put the SNES port on shame. Lots of Characters drawn from scratch, almost matching the original. Simpler movesets that resemble their original incarnation. Also has secret characters! The Ultimate Bootleg Game! Ideal for the bootleg fanatics and those who want to play them for laughs. Hummer Cheng would be proud.
| Nice overall! | Doomkid | 2018-06-25 | Version 1.0 |
This is such a great hack! It's a shame you didn't use the ROM "Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (14 people) (Unl) [!].nes" as it is the same game, but with more characters and more stages. I feel like, with some tweaks, your patch might be able to be modified to work with the UMK3 version (which also has Sub Zero, Nightwolf and others) Excellent quality work, regardless!
