Game: HARVEST MOONHack description
Harvest Moon is a series notorious for its numerous bugs, and while most of the bugs in the SNES entry exist as exploits and can either be utilized or ignored to fit the players preferred play-style, a few bugs in the ranch master rate calculation have long forced completionists to have to choose between achieving an unintuitive "perfect" game or settling for a "100%" game. (A "perfect" game could only be achieved by deliberately limiting the shipped crops and girls' love to just below 512, as a bug in the programming ignored the higher bits.)Screenshots

| Not feel like the original game | Flandre Scarlet 64 | 2022-08-27 | Version 2.5 |
Having played this rom hack i can say that while all of the improvements on the overall game are nice, like for example the bell tree new behavior, the new prices for the flowers and cake and etc, i overall don't like this rom hack because it changed the aspects of the original game that i liked, for example i loved walking in the night breaking woods the most i can and going to the hot springs to recover stamina and rise and repeat, i understand that some people prefer playing this type of stuff in the long term but for me especially games that have a certain time limit i like farming the most stuff i can the most early i can if possible, and this rom hack removed that. Not only the woods, they also nerfed the gift system a lot of people already marry a wife whenever they feel like it's the right time and as such i don't like the new system of 1 gift per day, not to mention that with the price reduction of the flowers and cake even without multiple gifts it still end up being a joke to farm affection with wives since you can just buy a flower or cake and give to them everyday, meanwhile in the original game you actually had to put thoughts on what type of gift you had to give to a wife, although some of them i will admit was way too hard (cough cough Nina). While having the infinite nights as a separated patch is nice said patch also changed the in-game hour from 20 real-world seconds to the normal vanilla game of in-game hour = 15 real-world seconds, which seems kinda pointless because for a lot of people the original game went through the day to night way too fast and while infinite nights are nice, they didn't make up for that, and right when this romhack fix that they revert the change on the infinite nights patch, but why??, even with infinite nights you already nerfed the hot springs making the player rely on limited stamina per night you really didn't need to bring back the in-game hour = 15 real-world seconds back. I think the major issue i had with this romhack while playing, is that instead of just improving the original game it wants to be a major overhaul/remake of it, and while some people like that sort of stuff i feel like it removed the charm or little tricks i had with the original game when playing it, if i could have a version of this romhack with the improvements, bug fixes, exploits being kept including not limiting how much wood and rocks you can break on the mountain per day, the optional infinite night patch having the in-game hour being equal to 20 real-world seconds, and none of the major game changes like the new gift system, then this would be a 10/10 since it would just be the original game but improved instead of a overhaul. If you're reading this review have in mind this is just my opinion and it's not a popular opinion i will say that, perhaps you may enjoy this hack but for me i will go back to the original game.
| May God pay you for this masterpiece! | SkyLink | 2022-07-31 | Version 2.5 |
I got tired of being annoyed with those chickens blocking me, when I was super excited to buy the bell tree and in the end it was useless, the confusion that was putting the cows out, not being able to remove grass and many other things. This is my first Harvest Moon and I'm really addicted to it, but its flaws are remarkable, and they were fixed in this patch, thank you very much 3 . And luckily it worked with the Brazilian Portuguese translation patch, even better kkk 3 . But in the end credits everything got distorted and buggy, and I can't continue playing as written there.

EDIT: Previously I had given this hack a pass due to the removal of infinite nights, but sure enough, the author has heard our pleas. With everything else included in this patch and the return of infinite nights, I can now give this romhack my full-throated endorsement. Thanks for the awesome update!
| Much needed fixes, but the balance is off | seocwen | 2021-05-26 | Version 2.4.3 |
A number of bugs in the original make it almost unplayable today. This patch fixes those and offers a slew of quality of life improvements it would be difficult to play without since experiencing. I want to call this patch the definitive version, but some of the author's tinkering makes this a very different game that doesn't appeal as much to my tastes. Nights are no longer infinite. In the original balance, days were a frantic rush to buy seeds, date, through crops in the deliver box, forage in the mountains, and maybe actually do farm work. The infinite nights, however, were a patience game. Time stood still, so while you couldn't make money, you could stay up as long as you pleased doing maintenance around your farm. Your stamina was limited though, so you'd have to run back and forth to the mountain hotspring to keep yourself going between fits of passing out. I liked the atmosphere created by the quiet, dark, and endless, determined work. You could almost imagine your character smoking and looking at the stars. A really grindy player could clear the whole farm on their first workday, though there was no real benefit to doing so. It wasn't till later in the game that the challenge increased by having to go to bed early to keep your wife happy. I miss nightplay. I understand the rationale for removing it - preventing players from grinding out their farms - but I feel the balance is off. Maybe I'd prefer a compromise solution where time flows a quarter, or an eighth as fast at night - long enough to finish chores, but short enough to prevent grinding. Otherwise, I'd turn the "day end mechanic," into a different patch, as far from fixing an original bug, it makes this a totally different game that's crazy frantic all the time with no breaks.
| Great fix and improvements | kuhchung | 2021-04-23 | Version 2.4.2 |
Love the fix and the extra challenge without infinite night or insta-hearting the girls. I don't know if it's just me, but there's a blemish on the hack - probably due to the power berry auto-pickup fix, I am unable to pick up the power berry in the mountain cave on the ledge. It wouldn't be a big deal, but it interferes with the perfect+100% game that the hack purports to fix. Still would highly recommend. Edit: Fixed as of 2.4.3!
| Great updates to a classic | Dzumeister | 2020-10-31 | Version 2.0 |
Harvest Moon is a landmark title in gaming, though this entry has quite a few blemishes that keep it from being one of the more memorable entries in the series. The fixes you find here give a much smoother player experience to those looking to play the first game. What could be improved? The localization is still terrible, with lots of errors ranging from simple spelling to grammar/syntax/clarity. Honestly, if the author ever gets to fixing the text in the game, this would be the perfect hack.

Very nicely done! This makes the game vastly more enjoyable experience. I would recommend this over the original version.
