Hack description

This is a patch intended for Rockman 2 or Megaman 2, which adds sliding, and charge shots to the game. Sliding is based on Megaman 3 physics, and charge shot is the large version from Megaman 5.

Also included is Weapon Swapping via Select Button.

It is free to use for any Rockman/Megaman 2 hacks if desired.

Excelent start point for hackingomega_rugal2024-03-16Version 1.2

Both abilities seems to work properly. The modified floor friction works while deaccelerating so you no longer fall to pits easily. BUT, acceleration is unchanged from vanilla mm2. Not much of a deal, it's only one frame off (walk frame 1 - move). The charge fade out sound is also a welcome addition. Great job as always.

Great vanilla plus experienceG30FF2022-12-28Version 1.2

All of the new features of this hack have been excellently implemented. It provides a very interesting new gameplay experience for Mega Man 2! The issue with swapping weapons in the US rom has been fixed, so I can now recommend this wholeheartedly.

A really interesting twist on Mega Man's abilityAceearly19932022-09-07Version 1.2

Although the benefit of a charged shot may be nullified by the powerful special weapons (Metal Blades, etc.), it's quite useful in situations when you, for some reason, didn't have any special weapon energy left in between Wily Castle stages. The slide is a very interesting addition on Mega Man 2's groundwork and it vastly added more entertainment value so that Mega Man 2 is more in line with Mega Man 4 and onwards in the original series.

There's also an additional weapon change trigger by pressing Select during gameplay. It's really nice, the blue bomber benefits a lot from it, and generally makes the game more user friendly (like what it was in Mega Man 3 Improvement project).

In conclusion, I really appreciate the works to port these abilities back into Mega Man 2. Good Luck and be safe our heroes.

Immense funSupergamerguy2021-10-06Version 1.1

Mega Man fans *have* to play this hack. It's almost a mandatory requirement for those that have completed at least the NES saga, as this hack makes Mega Man 2 ten times better than it already was. You never know how much you miss the charge shot and the ability to slide until you go back and play the games it wasn't in yet. Now fans can experience one of the best Mega Man games in its utmost form. Using the charge shot helps limit the Metal Blade crutch (a crutch I admittedly really enjoy), and the slide helps mitigate the effects of head-level enemy projectiles, those spiked obstacles that crush the player beneath them, and even most of Air Man's tornadoes! This hack is truly a labor of love that I'm not sure I can live without anymore.

Works very well!Mengo2020-11-28Version 1.1

It does EXACTLY what is advertised, but one thing I would like to see is a standalone version with only the weapon switching.

Two functions works, but...diablo6662020-06-06Version 1.1

They promised that the Slide, charge Blaster And "rewind abilities"will work. 2 out of 3 works, and "rewind abilities" - breaks the game. DON'T USE THIS... Useful, but not complete editing. Glide and Charge Blaster-Works, "rewind abilities" - NO

I recommend it partially

This is really cool...Googie2019-09-04Version 1.1

I played though this hack last night, and I gotta admit that this is the way Mega Man 2 shoulda been back in the 80's. Kuja Killer did a great job with add the sliding and charge shot, every person that's thinking of hacking Mega Man 2, use this as a base for your hack. I can honestly say that I'll never play the original ever again.

Thanks Kuja Killer! :D

Finally!worrow2019-09-02Version 1.1

Was looking for this for a long time! Always wondering what could be like if Slide is added to this game.

Didn't use Charge Shot much 'cause it is kind of weak. Only useful when clearing a pack of small enemies.

Anyway, thank YOU!

Good but somewhat innacurateNess2018-08-20Version 1.1

A lot of people must have thought of doing this, and Kuja Killer did it.

Obviously with charge & slide the balance of the game is off the charts but that's not the point. The point is to have fun screwing around with those abilities in a game not meant for it, and at that it's pretty fun.

This being said, and maybe it's my nitpicky nature but a few small things are off, and all aded together come hindering the picture.

The charge shot travels at the same speed as regular shots, while it should be faster. You can also shoot regular buster shots while a charge shot in on screen, which considering the quasi-inexistent invicibility frame time of enemies and bosses, renders the whole thing even more OP than it should be. You also don't lose your charge shot when hit. I know it is also the case in some MM games like 4, but it is at least not the case in 5 and 6 and I think the game is more balanced that way.

On a more cosmetic matter, the charging sound feels weak and the colours of the pal swap when charging is unlike any other classic MM game.

As for the slide, I happened to find out that if done right, you can cross 32 pixels long holes while the maximum is 16 pixels in other games. That is pretty long and can make you skip otherwise mandatory platforming like the presses with spikes in Metal Man stage.

Kuja Killer did a small feat with this hack and I'm sure granted the wish of many players (who hasn't ever asked himself how would MM2 be with charge and slide?) and the result is pretty fun. The cosmetic points I brought up are arguable and of little consequence but I hope Kuja Killer can address the gameplay points and make this hack perfect and a little more balanced.

Well-made, minor complaintKevvyLava2018-08-14Version 1.1

The charge is great and I like the way the volume of charging dissipates so it doesn't interfere with the music like in MM4-6. My only comment is that it feels like the charged buster shot should do more damage than it does. I feel like it only does 2 shots worth of damage and for many folks who are accustomed to playing Mega Man, it is almost easier to just use regular rapid fire.

Had fun playing it, though. This is a great idea and the slide really is refreshing to be able to use.

What a Difference Two Abilities Make!Ziko2018-08-04Version 1.0

Much like the Improvement/Ultimate patches, this patch changes everything about how the game is played now that you have sliding and charge shots at your disposal. The increased movement speed was very noticeable in Metal Man's level where I tested this patch alongside StalkerMaestro's speed patch. This is a speedrunner's dream as now obstacles that use to be frustrating to overcome can now be done with this combo. A huge bonus with this patch now is that every hack that was hard may become easier with sliding and charge shots implemented. I will continue to use this alongside other hacks to see the differences. This is definitely a necessity as killing enemies and Robot Masters with the Buster alone isn't gonna cut it but now it's a lot more feasible.
