Hack description

This romhack takes concepts learned and developed within eskayelle's NBA Jam TE - Double Z Mod and extends them to EMiller518's awesome 2K17 mod, the purpose being to develop a proof-in-concept whereby a template game could be created to apply annual roster updates against.

To achieve this, this romhack expands and improves upon the great work accomplished in the original 2K17 romhack by adding the following:

Please feel free to browse the readme for more info, including secret player initials/button combinations, and cheat codes.

Huge thanks to phonymike for all his guidance and ASM assistance on both the Double Z Mod and NBA Jam 2K17 - OT Edition. Thanks as well to Wake for prepping additional sound clips via Soundforge and Audacity, plus DarkSamus993 and gauveldt for sound guidance that helped "crack the code". Hat tips to optiroc and Bregalad for additional SNES sound concepts.

Not only does this mod clean up some of the bugs leftover from the original and Ethan Miller's original roster hack, but it adds on to some "unfinished" business. For instance, logos have been updated for teams, and new sound clips have been added for announcing them. There's so much polish here that ensures that the mod feels pretty much official. The campaign feels more balanced than it did in the original mod, there's great codes that still include past All-Star favorites, and everything looks amazing. The only errors I've seen so far are on the tip screens that are viewed between quarters. It'll say "CMART TIPS" (I'm not actually sure if this is a typo or a stylistic choice).

My only complaints are extremely minor. There's some aesthetic details that could be improved on, such as some of the banners feeling out of place in the game. These include plugs for Hogs With A Blog and the Reddit community, as well as one that places the NBA-Live website on the floor where reflections of the audience are. It's a bit weird if you look too long at it. There's other ones that do this as well. Restoring some banners, like the ones that advertise for MKII could be funny.

Is there anything else that could be added to make this mod even better? Honestly, it depends on what you want. The rosters are slightly smaller than in the original mod-I missed having Draymond Green, to be honest (though there is a code to unlock expanded rosters, having it unlocked by default wouldn't be unwelcome). Breaking backboards would be an aesthetic choice only NBA Jam fans could love. Tweaking of jersey palettes would also help, though I'm not sure what's exactly possible given the nature of the game. Personally, the biggest addition I'd want is to have the voice clips from NBA Jam XXX carried over. Just once would I love to hear that I'm on fucking fire. Other voice clips from NBA Jam would also be welcome, such as the iconic "BOOMSHAKALAKA" or "JAMS IT IN". I look forward to seeing what else this team has in store, because they definitely love this game.
