ROM Information
No-Intro Name: Mega Man 4 (USA)Hack description
This ROM hack is a major overhaul of Mega Man 4 that changes the original game so much that it can almost be considered a new game altogether. In fact, with the exception of the names of the 8 robot masters, very little is left from the original game.Screenshots

| A hack that rebooted my interest to Mega Man rom hacks | Aceearly1993 | 2022-09-17 | Version 1.06 |
This hack is very nicely done, it mixes many great elements from past games, overall difficulty is more accessible in the Mega Man hacks, the level designs feels more professional. And it even has a rendition of Weapon Archive boss in Mega Man 10, but with different bosses archived, located somewhere at late game. This is a major surprise! I wonder if actual demakes of Mega Man 9 and 10 could be done on the NES 8-bit structure, but given the performance of this boss (and another mid-stage boss), the possibility is present. This hack also decreased invincibility time of major 8 bosses, which is a good plus so that the scrubs like me could also enjoy the boss fights offered by this hack. ( I have lots of problems with the 8 bosses in Mega Man 4 original) My only complain is the locations of E tanks, they could be placed at more stages rather than strictly limited to a few. In conclusion, this hack could be the one that reboot your interests to the Mega Man hacks, it has very great potential and it's a blast to play through it at least once. You won't regret costing your free times on it.
| A Blast All The Way Through!! | Juaramboocha | 2022-09-08 | Version 1.06 |
Mega Man 4 isn't a bad game at all, and this Rom Hack builds upon that foundation richly. Let's start with a minor but really important aspect of the hack. It looks great and it sounds great. The aesthetic is perfect using original tiles or borrowed ones and all of the robot master stages have been revamped with a new look, lots of surprises here! and the music is all original and it's alll sooo gooood. OK, let's get to the real meat of the stuff.. how does it play?? A lot better than MM4! the levels are actually legnthier than the average but even those that overstay their welcome by a little; don't do much of a transgression; it's better for a good experience to last than to feel it didn't realize its full potential. I think this game did the latter! Level design employs a lot of gimmicks and enemies from several games used in fun ways for the most part, and the new remade weapons complement it, they're way better than the original game, more powerful and more useuful and i love that a lot. except for Rain Flush which was made a bit stronger, yes, but it lasts so little and uses so much energy it doesn't feel worth it. The inclusion of the Energy Balancer and the new two utilities "Safe Guard" and "Speed Boost" instead of the redundant Wire and Balloon are pretty smart much more useful and fun, hidden in a fun way where you might find them by paying attention to the layout; it's nothing extreme but they're not given away to you either, bonus for exploration points!! Bosses are a lot more fun than the original and most NES ones. Castle is harder but still fair, while being fun, and having a lot of fanservice which i appreciated! Personally my favorite aspect is it prioritizes fun and authenticity before needless difficulty and spectacle unlike other romhacks. I play this instead of Mega Man 4 all the time. Give it a try!! you won't regret it, it's really great!!
| MM4 Voyage - or how to turn a hack into a new game | diablo666 | 2022-05-01 | Version 1.06 |
Hack promises new, different music, not similar to REMIXES from other games... Аnd we get what was declared. However, why did I pay attention to the hack? Is it just music? The answer is simple. Spent a lot of time on the hack - and not for nothing. It has a good balance of complexity. It does not jump from sharply difficult to sharply easy. And it's nice. What are the pros and cons of this creation? Let's start with the zero point. 0. Hack - begins not with a retelling of MM4, but with a different interpretation of Wily's story against Megaman. Wily restores 8 old dr.Kozak robots. And the Voyage begins on this. After passing 66% of the story of the game, we get the following. We were sent to the fake Wily Castle. And in order to defeat the main villain, we need to go through another (REAL) castle. What can I bring in pluses? 1. Graphics and level design. Although they partially extracted the graphic component from other NES games, they did a great job, I have no questions. Plus too this is added and very competently constructed levels. There is no feeling that something is too much or vice versa - an empty room. 2. Enemies at level. They were taken from various games on the theme of Mega man, at least from official, at least not from official. Properly put them - still hard work. The authors coped with this. 3. As I said earlier - music. To write music from scratch and combine it with the game... PERFECT. Well, the truth is beautiful. Not a single track - not a single REMIX from another game. It is combined with levels! 4. Bosses in this hack. The first 8 is a modified AI, qualitatively modified AI. It's interesting to fight them. It is pleasant to to lose to them, BUT it is NICE TO WIN THEM! The remaining bosses in the hack are NEW. Mecha Dragon, Mega mans clones, illusion machines, like from MM10... and others. 5. Special features of the game. All were written from scratch. And it diversifies the gameplay. 6. Easter eggs, alternative ways. Easter eggs - can be in boss AI, hidden walkways or the final boss. And the rest of the tricks - "NO SPOILERS" Now the cons. They are tiny, inconspicuous, but I must mention 1. Boss Image Icons and their appearance. I have nothing against it, but I would like them to change too... as it was in Rockman CX. AI is interesting, but the look remains the same 2. Character abilities. What we get from bosses - abilities are almost indistinguishable, and if they differ, then weakly. The only thing that stands out is RING, DRILL, DUST abilities. And all... (The only thing that Megaman added was a charge shot) The result is from me. This hack is good. So good that I felt different. As well as Rockman СХ - I'm not playing a hack, I'm playing a NEW FULL-FLEDGED GAME Status: I recommend! And this creation deserves such a status: "NEW GAME!"
| Boss Weaknesses and Review | Supergamerguy | 2022-04-30 | Version 1.06 |
Mega Man 4 Voyage might as well be an official Mega Man game. It feels so well made that it could fit right in with Mega Man 9 and 10. The level design is great, the enemy and stage variety is highly respectable, and the new graphics are some of the best available on the NES. What else can I say that other viewers haven't pointed out? This in a phenomenal hack that goes above and beyond in giving Mega Man fans a new, polished title. Absolutely play this game! And, as a bonus, I thought I'd share the Boss Weaknesses for this hack below. I couldn't find these weaknesses in print anywhere else. Technically, this could be a SPOILER to some people (those who'd like to find these out on their own), so quit reading this if you'd like to go in blind. For everyone else, here you go:

| Voyage is a great game... but not without flaws | Snufflepus Penguin | 2020-08-17 | Version 1.06 |
Mega Man 4 Voyage is a very well done game. I recommend it. It does a lot of very nice things, but I will admit, not without some noticeable flaws. I suppose the best way to evaluate this is stage by stage. I will not comment on Music for that is subjective - I love some of the tunes like Toad Man and Wily 1 but prefer original better. Toad Man - The stage is rather scattered with an ice gimmick in the first half that repeats for too long and then a non-fitting Plug-Air Man second area. I wish it was the sewer stage from the original but frozen over with some ice enemies - That would be fantastic. Rain Flush is a bit OP now but the cost is higher - Prefer the original. Love the new Toad Man - he's a fantastic upgrade to the the really awful original. Snail midboss is a nice sidegrade. Bright Man - Again the stage is a bit random exhausting it's light gimmick then suddenly putting force beams without really mixing the two up. The ideas were there, but it wasn't executed that great. That said, the sections aren't bad but are a bit scrambled. The weapon is good as always, Bright Man himself is also a pretty good boss. Pharoah Man - Hate his stage. The quicksand is too relentless and you'll really have to be on your game to dodge the scorpions and the shield attackers. This stage hones some enemies that appear in a few rooms and never appear again. It feels like a cheap stage, to be honest. Compare to the original where you feel more of a hunter raiding the secret temple of Pharoah man. However, his boss fight is also pretty epic too. Original is still pretty good, however. Dislike how you cannot charge the Pharoah shot. Skull Man - Interesting idea, lacking execution. The fake platforms I wish were like crumbling bones - It would retain the idea but be more thematic. It can get rather obscured in the stage, and it gets tiresome. Love the theme. No skull enemies till the second half. Skull Man's fight is much more creative, however. Skull Barrier is a beast of a weapon. Ring Man - A pretty nice stage, introduces "ring" mechanic quite well. Perhaps it needed a few more gimmicks to pair with the ring for extra challenge. Where is the ring miniboss ? Still, this is the stage I wanted and would be fitting. Still prefer the original more, it feels more lively. Ring Man is fantastic as well with some really awesome ring attacks. Ring weapon is good, but we already have a circling Skull Barrier weapon, already. Dust Man - A bit of a chaotic stage - Hate the tight jumps with left wall gravity. Gimmicks feel segmented and split. Definitely prefer the original stage for it's flow and theme. Dust Man himself is fantastic, too. Dust crusher is also a good weapon. Dive Man - A pretty lifeless stage - Sorry to say. Compared to an aquatic sea base of the original, this feels rather random in gimmicks. Unfortunately, Dive Man is atrocious, he lags the screen with tiny missiles, his upward attack with missile bubbles is annoying. Drill Man - The best stage, no doubt in the robot master line up. Some good chase sequences with the massive drills and the popping out drills. I think it's a good sidegrade to the original, and both encompass the stage pretty nicely. Drill Man is a good example of a very well timed boss and it can be mastered no-miss. Wily Castle - Some pretty nice stages here, the difficulty is pretty good and bosses are pretty neat. Wished for some new MM4 bosses, however. Stages at times have themes that are a bit lacking and I prefer the original MM4 castles for a good sense of progression. Some bosses are really neat, but it can be hair-tearing difficult at times. Love it, though. So, Voyage is a fantastic game, and it has a very awesome soundtrack. Still prefer the original, however. It's strength has to be it's bosses and weapons, but the actual bread and butter stages are not that good. A bit of Yin-Yang scenario here. Still, heavily recommend for the fun bosses and if you wish to explore some of the Wily stages.
| I love this | Yave | 2020-06-01 | Version 1.06 |
I love this hack, added other Mega Man stuff into Mega Man 4 and made them works well, changed original music to original music (Haha, hope you can understand my meaning ^_^) and great (Now I usually hear this hack's nsf)... Most importantly, this hack have wonderful level design and not difficult difficulty! So I can beat this game without using savestates (even not 1-life beat). Highly recommend this hack!
| Mega Man 4 Voyage - EXCELLENT | Dobu_GM | 2020-05-31 | Version 1.06 |
Mega Man 4 Voyage Levels: Excellent Graphics: Good Music: EXCELLENT Enemies: Good ("new" enemies are foes from sequel games) Bosses: Excellent Weapons: Good Castle: Excellent Difficulty: EASY-MEDIUM (final boss is pretty tough) Comments: DurfarC's Mega Man 4 Voyage is a masterpiece. It's a thoughtful blend of old and new, combining the best aspects of Mega Man 4 with a staggering amount of phenomenal, jaw-dropping programming. Expect a lot of unexpected surprises as you play through it, as well as a very reasonable difficulty curve that never gets as oppressive as the more popular hacks. The only bad aspect of Voyage is that it relies very heavily on nostalgia—there are no truly "unique" bosses in the game—but the quality of the hack proves that you don't need shiny-new graphics to create an unforgettable experience. Voyage isn't just an impressive feat, but also a musical marvel; the soundtrack alone makes it worth a play (check out Toad Man's stage for proof)! Highly, highly recommended.

| Just fun | bibble89 | 2020-02-08 | Version 1.06 |
I'm not much for reviewing things, but decided to start on this site, as the reviews here have lead to me playing so many great games. I'm almost finished this game and am blown away by how authentic it feels. As others have said, it feels like Nintendo themselves made it. New music, cool ideas, changed boss AI, and great stage design; something most hacks lack I feel. The biggest factor is that this is fun to play. I've played a few other Mega Man hacks, as well as full Mega Man fan games (Unlimited and 2.5D), and this is right up there with any of them as far as the fun factor goes. The only thing that I could possibly complain about, is that the boss weaknesses cause too much damage. The boss AI is so fun to play against, you almost don't want to beat them so easily. I'm a Mega Man veteran, and am good at the games, but not great. The difficulty is very similar to the originals. I usually play through the originals every few years, and I think I'll be playing this along side them when I do. 9/10.

Is very good. Great variety of novelties, and elements brought from other Megaman games. With a very balanced difficulty. Recommendable.
| How is This Just a Hack? | Mother Kojiro | 2019-03-30 | Version 1.06 |
This hack is extremely impressive from a technical perspective; it is today what Dragoon X Omega was 15 years ago. This has new graphics, new music (all original compositions, I believe; I only kinda recognized one song), new enemies, new boss behavior, new weapon behavior, new just about everything! There are plenty of people absolutely gushing about how incredible this hack is, and I could go on all night, so I'll keep it brief. What's most impressive about this hack is that it feels like a whole new game. Yes, I'm sure you've heard that before, but really, if you changed the robot masters, this could be released as a brand new Mega Man game; there were moments that I forgot what robot master's stage I was even playing, it's so radically different. The most impressive thing about the level design, itself, though, is that even the stage gimmicks are completely new; they aren't just remixed stages from the original with a nice new coat of paint. There are a few familiar faces, but the Quick Beams don't instantly kill you and give you a warning, and the disappearing blocks are laid out in an engaging way, so I didn't find myself trying to skip them with Rush Jet. There wasn't as much of the surreal weirdness that I usually go for in a hack, but it was so well designed that I barely noticed. If you like Mega Man, give this a try, plain and simple.
| Fantastic game | Quint | 2019-03-02 | Version 1.06 |
This is an absolutely fantastic game. Like the description says, other than the names and the appearances of the robot masters it has nothing to do with the original Mega Man 4 but is an almost completely different game. The level design is very good and the game contains even enemies and minibosses from Megaman 9 (falling rocks) and Megaman 10 (double fire birds). Toad Man's stage is a beautiful arctic level that also contains elements of Mega Man 9's Plug Man stage, a very nice combination. Pharaoh Man's stage takes place inside a giant pyramid and dust man's setting is a huge factory with lots of conveyor belts and stuff. Dive man stage is a really wonderful looking underwater level with very nice colors. The bosses' new AI is outstanding, they are very fun to play. They have interesting, challenging but fair patterns, my favourites being Skull Man and Ring Man. After quite a bit of practice, I've managed to beat them all with only the mega buster, with the exception of Dive Man. The Weapons are on par or even better than in the original Mega Man 4, and that says a lot, because Mega Man 4 is a game with a great set of weapons. While Bright Stopper, Toad Flush and Dive Missile are basically the same as their original counterparts with only minor changes, the other weapons are completely new. The Ring Orbiter is a fantastic, powerful but not overpowered new weapon that is very fun to use in a lot of situations. The Skull Shield is a big improvement as it doesn't disappear on the slightest contact any longer. But it's not nearly as overpowered as the Jewel Satellite in Mega Man 9, it's very well balanced. The music is absoluitely fantastic, every single tune is an 8 bit masterpiece. I think every single bit of music in the game is replaced with new tunes, another thing that makes this really feel like a brand new game instead of a hack. I find myself every now and then whisteling the tunes of Skull Man or the first level of the second Wily Castle. The difficulty is very well balanced, getting harder towards the end of the game, but it never feels cheap or unfair. You will find a bunch of familiar foes as fortress bosses, but all of them have brand new AI, attacks and weaknesses. I really suggest downloading and playing this hack, it's one of the best Mega Man experiences one can get.
| Very good | hojo | 2019-01-07 | Version 1.04 |
The comparisons with Minus Infinity are gonna be inevitable, so I'll go ahead and say that from a technical perspective MI is a lot more impressive, BUT, that doesn't mean this hack is bad, in fact, I think it's better than MI in other aspects. If you've played MI to completion you know it goes off the rails a lot, specially towards the end, to the point that sometimes it no longer feels like you're playing a Mega Man game, this hack is a lot more held back, and as a result, it does feel more like a proper Mega Man game. Add to that a pretty solid level design, completely new and (mostly) fun AI patterns for the Robot Masters and an awesome and original sound track, and you've got a pretty good hack that could very well be a stand alone game. There's some enemies and gimmicks from MM9 and 10 here, I personally love seeing them implemented in an actual NES game and what's more, working exactly as you would expect. There's also a few original gimmicks, they're fairly basic, don't expect any crazy stuff, but they're implemented well. The difficulty is hard but fair, the RMs are fun to fight with their new AIs, although some of them may feel to cheap if you're going buster only (like Ring Man) but I do like how losing the charge after getting hit makes the fights more tactical. The difficulty does ramp up a bit in the castle levels with multiple mid bosses and some bosses having multiple forms, specially because E-Tanks are scarce, but I believe if you exploit their weakness and practice enough they're still manageable. And seriously, the music is great, I can't stress that enough, not only is it well composed, but it does a pretty good job imitating the Mega Man style, if I didn't know better I would say it was from an official game, each castle level even has its own song, what luxury! I do have a few complaints though, mostly regarding some boss choices in the castle levels (spoilers ahead) : First, I guess the author was a little fascinated with the Mega Man clone gimmick, because it's used a total of 3 times, one as a mid-boss and two times as a regular boss, and in fact, the last battle has two "forms" and there's also a regular clone enemy, so if you wanna be petty about it you can say you fight them a total of 5 times. Though in the author's defense, these fights do come in different forms (MM1, MM3 and MM9), so at least there's some variety, but I think the the MM3-style fights could have been cut off as they're the least interesting. Second, in a similar vein, the "fight old RMs" gimmick also gets used in two different levels as both mid bosses and end level bosses. Just like before, they come in different forms too, one being the Doc Robots from MM3 and the other being the RM Archive from MM10. While I do think that both are pretty cool, I think one would have been enough. There's also a bit of inconsistency between the representation here, in total, you fight 10 RMs this way (2 Doc Robots, 4 RM Archive fights with 2 RMs each), that should leave enough room for one RM from each game, right? Maybe throw in MM&B in there since this is still technically MM4 and a MM4 RM would be redundant, specially considering you do refight this game's bosses in the level right after the Archive? But, no, there's no MM1 or 5 representative, and the Archive does have Drill Man in it, albeit using a simplified AI (I think the original one), but still, it does feel redundant. These are minor pet peeves though, and the overall experience is still great and I highly recommend you give it a try. It's rare that we get MM hacks of this quality and we probably won't see another one in a while, even the also recently released Spirit of Hackers is not as good, IMO.
| Amazing music, great fun...until the last few levels | KevvyLava | 2019-01-02 | Version 1.03 |
This is a masterfully-designed Mega Man rom hack that feels almost 100% new except for the robot masters (but they all behave very differently). It was a real joy to play and I was legitimately excited as I saw cool throwbacks to past Mega Man games. Some of the robot masters are very hard to pick up on a pattern (and they are timed to punish you for a single wrong jump in the boss fights). But like all Mega Man games, with the right weapons, you can make quick work of them all. The biggest disappointment (and I will sadly say it was a BIG disappointment for me, maybe not for others) is the extreme boss difficulty in the later Wily levels, particularly the tail-end. Good luck beating it without save-states or spending 10 game overs memorizing it. Add to the fact that everyone is emulating it and there's input lag on most emulators in addition to the input lag on the average TV and it can get annoying. The majority of the game had a very reasonable difficulty (even what I would call "easy" at times being a seasoned player). The thing that I found the most fun was the traps and the pacing of the game. This really has better level design than the original games, and that's saying something. There wasn't much wasted space. The music was terrific as well. My only recommendation would be to tone down the last few multi-form boss battles or provide more E-tanks because it's annoyingly hard in my opinion. But for those that want a tough challenge, you can't go wrong with this. It's not as advanced as Rockman 4: Minus Infinity, but it has some VERY surprising, impressive, and advanced hacking and it feels more like a real Mega Man game than Rockman 4: Minus Infinity. I felt it was A+ 10/10 in the first half of the game, but by the end, I can't give it a perfect score because the difficulty was too hard for the average player. Played on SNES Classic with RetroArch using the QuickNES emulation core using the stock SNES controllers and also an 8BitDo N30 2.4G wireless controller.
| A fun well-designed ROM Hack | crfstewarje | 2018-12-21 | Version 1.02 |
Mega Man 4 Voyage, is a Mega Man 4 Hack that is seven years in the making. The game was finally finished in mid-December of 2018. And after my anticipation of the game for so many months, it was finally time to check it out. Let me say that Mega Man 4 Voyage does not disappoint. I've seen some people comparing this game to Rock Man 4: Minus Infinity (another Mega Man 4 hack). And while I do agree that Voyage does not surpass it in terms of creativity, it definitely has a sense of quality. One of the things that I got my attention about the game, was the music. Every soundtrack is 100% original, and with the exception of a few, many of the tracks fit their respective stages well. The tracks also have personality too. For example; Drill Man's stage theme fits the notion of traveling underground above a sunny sky. Skull Man's stage theme fits that of a haunted manor, Dive Man's theme is melancholic and ties into exploring the ocean, depths, etc. The robot masters are challenging in this game (in some ways more than the original). Moreover, they rarely feel unfair. Bosses like Dustman have a new set of attacks (there's even a callback to Search Man in Mega Man 8). Toad Man is more erratic and dangerous this time around, and using your buster against him won't put him in a state, where he just hops around without any retaliation. Then there's Dive Man, who lacks the speed he had in Mega Man 4. However, he makes up for that with a new and dangerous barrage of missiles, which keep you on your toes. The list goes on. There were a few times, I feel like some of the boss attacks could have been telegraphed better. An example of this, is Pharaoh Man's charge attack, which (while cool), could easily throw the most experienced Mega Man veteran off. Lastly, let's talk about the stages themselves, which are mostly solid. Mega Man 4 Voyage fixes things previous Mega Man games have failed to do in some regard: putting warnings before upcoming obstacles. For example; remember the pit enemies from Dustman's stage that could throw you off? Well this time, there is an enemy warning sign before they appear, so that you know they are coming. That is good design. Bright Man's stage also has force beams, but there is a rapidly flashing neon sign before the area, which let's you know that danger is ahead. There are also some cool ideas that work well on paper and are executed well too. An example of this, is the side-scrolling instant death drill in Drill Man's stage, the branching paths of Dive Man's stage, the weakened floors of Skull Man's stage, etc. I do feel like some ideas could have been mixed better though. For example; Toad Man's stage starts off as an ice level. However, for it to go from an ice theme, to an Plug Man type level in the end, did not mesh well for me. Platforming is of course, also a stage focus too, mixed with a fair amount of enemies (just like a Mega Man game should do). Enemies are often well placed too, mostly. For example; There are some stages in the game that have the claw grabbing enemies from Mega Man 9 (in Galaxy Man's stage), that try and grab you to push you into obstacles. Sometimes this works well in the level design's favor, but other times, not some much. For example; there's an area in Bright Man's stage where the enemies appear. After that, is a ladder leading to the next area. You think you're in the clear, but a claw enemy can grab you and push you off the ledge. So this felt a bit unfair. While the boss stages can be hit and miss sometimes, where the game really shines is the Wily stages. I won't spoil anything for those who have not played the hack. So I will just leave it at this; the level quality really felt like it shined here. The difficulty stays at a steady balance with a slow increase, and some of the bosses get ramped quite a bit in difficultly too. . Overall, Mega Man 4 Voyage is game that lived up to my expectations. While not perfect, it has good level-design, a memorable soundtrack, Mega Man 4 bosses that are even more challenging than the original, well-designed Wily stages, etc. If you are reading this review and have not checked out the hack yet, I highly recommend it.
| One of the best Mega Man Hacks I've played | XIII Hearts | 2018-12-17 | Version 1.01 |
This has honestly been one of the most fun Rom Hack I have played. You did really well with making the bosses more difficult without making them unfair, the music is well done, and I like what you did with the fortress bosses. Though I do have some issues with the game that I hope gets ironed out. For one, why did Toad Man's level theme change halfway through? It starts off as an ice stage and then ends with a section from Plug Man's stage? Why not just keep it an ice level for the whole thing? I never found a use for the hidden Spike Guard ability. I like the Speed Boost, and I thought we would have to use the Spike Guard to collect valuable items like that 1-Up in Ring Man's stage behind spikes, but that was the only item ever placed like that. I figure that more mini challenges involving using the Spike Guard to get items like E-Tanks or the like would make it a more relevant ability. As it stands, I just never use it. When fighting the Weapons' Archive boss, I don't understand the inclusion of vanilla Drill Man. This is Mega Man 4, we already fought a Rom Hack Drill Man, and now for some reason we have to fight base game Drill Man? I honestly feel like any other boss that isn't from Mega Man 4 would have been better. I did not like the final Wily Capsule. The second phase is out of your reach for a long time, which wouldn't be that bad if it had a weakness, but it doesn't. He didn't care for Rain Flush or Flash Stopper, and all other weapons bounced off him. He's only weak to the Mega Buster, which means that you have to wait for him to get into range while dodging his hard to avoid attacks. Either give the second phase a weakness, something like Dive Missile so that it can hit him while he's at the top of the screen, or make him somewhat more open to attacks from the Mega Buster. With all that said, I still had a blast with this Rom Hack and hope to see it improve in the future.
| Easily one of the best Megaman ROM Hacks | Satoshi_Matrix | 2018-12-17 | Version 1.02 |
This hack has it all; brand new stage layouts, boss AI patterns, new original music (that's fairly fitting!), ASM gameplay additions such as being able to cycle through acquired weapons with the otherwise unused Select button and even the powered up buster shot from Megaman 5! But that's not all. This hack also incorporates several enemies and mini-bosses from other Megaman games that weren't originally present in the game code at all, including foes from Megaman 2, Megaman 3, Megaman 5, Megaman V, and even Megaman 9 and 10! This hack goes well beyond the scope of most Megaman rom hacks. It still isn't on the same level of Rockman 4 Minus Infinty with it's insane MMC5 effects, but considering there is _not_ a mapper change, this is one of the most impressive rom hacks I've ever come across. Highly recommended.
| One of the best hack of megaman | ikusatatsu_ushiromiya | 2018-12-15 | Version 1.0 |
This is one of the best Mega Man hacks! I am enjoying it very much. All music is original and melodious. I found many enemies and bosses from other Mega Man games such as MM9 and MM10. All Bosses are remade and interesting. The scenes and stages also look good. I think its like a fan game rather than a hack.
| Not Just Another Mega Man 4 ROM Hack | Josephine Lithius | 2018-12-15 | Version 1.0 |
As advertised, this is a complete ROM hack. There's new levels, new music, new enemies, even some new weapons and bosses! It's the full package. But, I haven't told you anything that isn't already in the description, so let's break it down! The first thing I noticed was all the new music. From the prologue to the final credits, every song from the original game has been replaced by some kickin' new tunes from some pretty notable names in the Mega Man community. I'm not really sure how injecting music into Mega Man 4-6 works, but all the music, here, was masterfully composed and placed into the ROM with care. However, the soundtrack had the same effect on me that the one for Sonic Rush did: I really like the soundtrack... but, I don't think every songs fits its chosen area. One that I didn't think fit very well was Pharaohman's stage. The stage is a desert and pyramid, but the song is kind of upbeat and has a bit of echo with underlying counter-melodies. That sort of song is fantastic for a cave or jungle stage, but I don't think it worked for the pyramid stage. I'm also a little sad that there is practically no trace of any classic Mega Man music to be found anywhere, aside from one place, and even then, it was kind of brief. This also comes as a surprise because this game is rife with throwbacks! The level designs are pretty good and feel pretty official! The levels, themselves, are a little harder than the base game, but it's pretty balanced by a fair amount of items and, of course, the modern convention of actually warning the player of what's coming up! When a new gameplay mechanic is introduced – such as enemies popping out of holes or out of the ceiling, or HP-eating laser beams from nowhere – they're introduced in a way where the player should be relatively safe. A lot of attention was paid to make sure everything was as smooth as smooth could be. There are a massive number of additional enemies, all imported from earlier or later titles. Except to run into a lot of familiar faces from unexpected places! However, if you're as familiar with the enemy robots as I am, you might be surprised by how some of these enemies act. Basically, if an enemy was brought in from any game other than Mega Man 4-6, its behavior or animations aren't going to be perfectly spot-on. This is understandable because, while swapping enemies from the last three NES games around is relatively easy, due to the engine being almost completely the same, enemies from the first three games – as well as later one – had to be hand-coded. Still, I think a little more care could have been taken to make the enemies mimic their commercial counterparts. Illusians stick out, in my mind, since they can physically hurt the player, even though they couldn't in Mega Man 9 (or, Mega Man Unlimited, for what that's worth). But, these are all negligible and only someone as focused on the details as I am might notice. On a similar topic, I think that the new boss AI works pretty well, overall. The patterns are a little predictable, once you learn them, but very surprising, the first time around! They're also pretty creative and even give nods to other games, on occasion. Dustman, for example, has an attack a nod to one of the Mega Man 8 (my second-favorite game) Robot Masters! I do have to say, though, that some of the attacks might benefit from a little more forewarning. I remember getting nailed by one of Drillman's new attacks because I never saw it coming. Nothing does an unreasonable amount of damage, though, and there aren't any instant-death attacks that I'm aware of, so it's fair enough! I had a lot of fun fighting the new AI, in fact! The Wily Stage bosses are especially great and I'd love to see more of what MartsINY (the main boss programmer) can do with this engine, sometime! Lastly, I want to say that, while I appreciate the new weapons for what they are... I'm really not fond of the weapon order being what it is. I found myself using Ringman and Skullman's weapons most-often, and they're in pretty inconvenient places, if you're using the Select button, or Down + Select, to scroll to them. But, I can't blame the hack creators for that. The original game wasn't made with weapon-cycling in mind, after all! Also, the hidden weapons are kind of fun to play with, but I didn't find them terribly useful, outside of where you actually find them. Anyway, I'd say that while this hack isn't quite on the same level as PureSabe's Rockman 4 Minus Infinity, this is definitely a hack that goes beyond the norm in a lot of good ways! As DurfarC said, it can "almost be considered a new game," with all the things that are changed or new! I can confidently recommend this ROM hack for download and play!
