Hack description

I. Overview:

This hack allows the player to play as the modified SOR3 versions of Axel, Blaze, Skate, and Shiva in SOR2. Unlike its predecessor ROF 2018, the game system has been completely upgraded.

The story is the same as The Return of the Fighters 2018. Shiva, who had become a state witness after the event of SOR3, joined Axel's team to fight Mr. X and save the city.

II. Features:
*Shiva replaces Max as a playable character with portrait.
*All playable characters have SOR3 style appearances with some modifications.
*All playable characters can run (with weapon animations).
*All playable characters can change direction and turn around while running.
*All playable characters can jump further while running.
*The command to run (f, f) becomes more sensitive.
*Players can still move after defeating each boss.
*KO count of the players is displayed.
*Defensive Special and Offensive Special will cost 10 KO count if the player's KO count is greater than or equal to 10. Otherwise, they will cost 8 HP.
*When the player's health is less than or equal to 30%, Offensive Special becomes Desperate Super Combo, which is 50% more powerful with invulnerability.
*Axel, Blaze, and Shiva's blitz moves are adjustable.
*Kickboxers cannot block weapon attacks.
*Thugs' names are changed.
*Mania difficulty is directly accessible.
*Stage selection is available.

There are two IPS files included:
*SOR2_RoF_2019v104.IPS is version 1.04.
*SOR2_RoF_2019v104A.IPS is version 1.04A.
The only difference is that in 1.04A, you will hear Mr. X laughing if your character's health drops below 30%. Play V1.04 if this bothers you.

This was pretty coolCupcom5/NGKFlower2019-11-24Version 1.04

I like how their blitz attacks are different as well as their down attacks (jump, Down+B) does more hits.

Skate as slightly difficult, only because Donovan can uppercut you real fast the moment you use ff+B, happened to me several times.

Other than that, I like that Shiva is playable and Axel and Blaze have slight modifications in their attacks. Gives it a nice flair than the original in a way.

Very fun, but a bit too easyhojo2019-01-12Version 1.02

This makes the game play a lot more smoothly than vanilla, I find it hard to go back to the original after this. Specially love the special mechanic, keeping track of my KO count and managing it for special use is fun and allows you to use the specials more often, but not the point of spamming and making your other attacks irrelevant.

Shiva replacing Max is kind of an odd choice, but appreciated since I myself never liked slow grappler characters in these types of games, and Shiva is exactly the opposite. He is implemented well for the most part, but just keep in mind the ending graphics haven't been edited, so you'll still see Max there instead of Shiva, very minor detail that most people probably won't care about. I do appreciate that while you still fight Shiva in Stage 8 like in the normal game (even if you're playing as him), they at least changed his color palette and name so it's supposed to be a clone now, clever.

Only problem with this hack is that I feel the gameplay changes make the game a lot easier. I don't remember being able to clear the vanilla SOR2 by myself, but I had no problem doing so with this hack, even had lots of lives to spare. Then again, I guess this is offset by the fact that the Mania difficulty is available from the start, so you could always go that route if you want a challenge.
