| The Ultimate Hard Corps Experience is Here! | dfwn203 | 2022-10-11 | Version 3.3 |
This is amazing! I loved every ending to Contra Hard Corps and always thought stitching them together for one linear story would make for one epic Genesis title that would of been talked about for ages! And this does that idea complete and total justice. I've had a blast and I thank you all who have worked on this so hard and still continue to do so. Appreciate the Cyclops getting some love as I always felt it could of been so much more. You can kill the thing way too easily before you even get to see all it's attack cycles. But with this... Cyclops now gets the proper boss fight it always deserved! I will mention though that there is but one bug I've noticed in the v3.3 release and that is when you use Robo-Fang's "Power punch" weapon the game will just soft-lock. I'd love to play as all the characters again!! Other than that, if work could be done on the screen shakiness with bosses to make them more aligned with the same visual experience as the original. (Not that a big deal though.) As this hack does everything else perfectly. So don't let these small details get in the way of you having possibly one the greatest gaming experiences of your life! You'll really appreciate it and be glad you gave this one a shot. 10/10! All in all, a great job! Great title! Great hack!! This is STILL one of the TOP & first ROMhacks I'll always recommend to people! Hard to find quality and dedication like this... Always will be at the top of my list! Long live the king.
| Even with Coop...super difficult ! | break | 2020-09-17 | Version 3.1 |
Got the 3.0 version first and could not get past the first stage because of the weapon power down. Would shoot a random enemies, with power weapons, for about 15 seconds before they would be destroyed. Was unable to clear stage one with max lives, because bosses took too long to beat. Now I have version 3.1, and noticed the weapons do more damage. So random enemies take about 5 seconds to destroy now. With that said...bosses have anime fast movements and attack patterns. Not only do you have to memorize the smart attack patterns, you reaction time has to be very precise. As not only are the bosses movement speed faster...their attacks track you at sharp angles at a extreme speed. Recommending this game if you want a challenge or if you want to create a nice looking TAS. Looking forward to more balance updates in the future !
| An absolutely ESSENTIAL rom hack for Contra fans. EXTREMELY underrated. | Light MetaS | 2019-12-02 | Version 2.0 |
This is an absolute beast of a hack. It's a complete and total reworking of Hard Corps. All alternate paths are combined into one singular adventure. The bosses who were underutilized in the original game are now much bigger threats. The original game had several boss attacks and attributes that the player could be totally unaware of, AND there were even some attacks that hardly did ANYTHING. It's a shame as well, because they often were visually extremely cool, but just ended up being a waste of space. Not only do the bosses get proper time in this hack, they are also made to be harder. Way harder. Holy crap they're hard. There are definitely points when it seems nigh impossible to avoid damage. Players could definitely argue that it's on the brink of unfair at times. Fortunately, you are also provided with nine lives per continue, nine continues, and best of all, not three but FOUR hitpoints per-life. From my experience, it wouldn't be difficult to get through the game in its entirety on real hardware due to the fact that it's entirely forgiving. My only other complaint - You do NOT want to be stuck with the basic weapon on some of these bosses. Just trust me. You'll be waiting around for a while. I also want to push a new release with a few bugfixes. Fun stuff, right? I encountered a few - 1. The cutscene at the start of the train level shows a glitched character. Specifically, I encountered this when using the tall blue robot from Probotector. Using the main male character erased this problem. 2. Right before the missile riding section on the stage where you fight Bahamut, as you leave the screen it begins to fade. You can quickly see him begin to arise, and his text is cut off by the transition to the aforementioned missile segment. 3. Perhaps the most important - The game crashed a couple times when I completed the second-to-last stage while using the same blue robot from Probotector. Changing to the female character fixed this. It seems generally that the game struggles when coping with the fact that there are more than the initial four characters from the original game. This is the only roadblock in the experience. On a side spoiler note. The ending was absolutely devastating. My jaw dropped. Overall, it's an absolutely amazing experience, and it's a dream come true. I remember daydreaming about a build of Hard Corps that had these features, and I send my warmest appreciation to the talented programmer behind this monster. The creator had an absolutely fantastic vision of what the game should have been. I absolutely cannot recommend it enough to fans of the series, and specifically to veterans of the original game.
| A new update after 25 years | vikfield | 2019-04-25 | Version 1.0 |
A lot of work is easily notice in this hack; from the beginning you can see a new presentation whit ALL character of hard CORPS, and as the hack description say, you can chose any of the 8 contra characters! The new weapon sets of the characters sometimes feel unbalanced and some weapons hard to use, also some projectile sprites are too big, but it is really cool that every character has its one basic machinegun projectile sprite. The reduction of the guns power by -2 makes this hack more difficult, even if you star whit all your arsenal and 4 hit points; so if you are a casual or average gamer you are going to feel it very Challenger, but if you are a hardcore gamer, this is gonna be a peace of cake and obviously you are going to love it. This is a good hack that have very good new ideas and concepts, so lets wait what new features the developers made in a future releases.
| A classic, revisited. | RealGaea | 2019-03-15 | Version 1.0 |
Ok, this guy went out insane. And I like that. Adding more rewards? Nice. Rebalancing the chars? Good. INCLUDING THE PROBOTECTORS? AWESOME! I wonder if there are Probotectors' portraits for the Bad Ending... Otherwise, time to say "It's payback time!"
