Hack description

There are two patches that can be chosen from.

The 'Air Dash' patch allows X to start off with dash from the start. The upgrade he receives from Leg Capsule allows him to Air Dash.

Note: This also includes the 'Wall Jump' patch!

The 'Wall Jump' patch allows the player to press and hold the 'A' button like the later X games to do a stronger jump from the wall rather than having to time your button presses each time you jump.

Great hack but may need some tweakingomega_rugal2024-03-09Version 1.0

The hack works as advertised, you can dash from the very start and the graphics for the no "boots dash" works as it should, no gfx glitches. a small detail is that in mmx2 and mmx3 when you perform an air dash and release the button you move a little before stopping midair, in here, it stops immediately, so jumping and tapping the A button makes you cancel the dash without moving an inch, not a problem, just remember to hold the A button. also a nitpick must be that the arms part require both the dash (so you can reach the blocks) and the helmet to break the blocks above you but you ALSO need the boots to break the first block sideways, with this hack that block breaks as it should but when you try to grab the e tank in that same stage you cant break the blocks sideways, I don't know if I explain my self clearly.

Good hack but needs some tweaking

Absolute mustTrisma2020-02-10Version 1.0

This hack is an absolute must, with both patches applied it totally fixes the first part of the game which was tedious due to the lack of dash. The addition of X2/X3 wall jumps is also an absolute must for QoL.

10/10

What I've Been Waiting ForPowerPanda2019-03-11Version 1.0

This hack is exactly what it aims to be. It takes the dash mechanic from MMX2 and adds it to MMX1. You start off with dash enabled, and get air-dash with the Chill Penguin capsule. In short, it's the hack I've been waiting for. I will never not play with this again, and I will be attempting to make my Capsule Remix patch compatible.

Two small notes. First, the Wall Jump hack does not work as a standalone. If you install it without the Air Dash patch, X will be able to dash jump off of walls even without the boots. Second, the patch requires a headered rom, but removes the header when you patch it. This seems odd, and I'd love to see it fixed.

Note: This patch was re-uploaded with the attempt to to fix the header issue. The new patches crash the rom. Once this is fixed, this is highly recommended!

Everyone Should Use This.IrohDW2019-03-09Version 1.0

The long walljump mechanic in this game is far inferior to how it is in all of its sequels due needing to press dash and jump at the same time. This often results in the player failing to do it when intended resulting in getting hit or falling into a pit. This patch lets the user hold dash and press jump to do a long walljump, making it much easier to do.

The Air Dash Patch letting the player start with the ground dash makes the early parts of the game a lot better. It makes the leg upgrade a bonus instead of a necessity like it was in the original game due to how crippled the player's mobility was without it.. The Air Dash itself functions exactly like it does in the sequels, and is surprisingly useful in this game.

Dashing Has Never Felt BetterEldrethor2019-03-06Version 1.0

When it comes to X's dash in the first Megaman X, I have a love-hate relationship with the fact that it came in the form of a capsule upgrade. On one hand, it was mind-blowing back in the day because it signaled to players that those capsules could turn X into an absolute beast. On the other hand, most stages were so hard without it that it made Chill Penguin's stage too high of a priority among the eight that you could choose from. This set of patches, whether intentionally or not, corrects that while adding some freshness to a game that's now over twenty-five years old.

Being able to quickly dash up walls while holding A seems like a subtle change at first glance but it's a pretty big quality-of-life upgrade that I found myself enjoying thoroughly. While it's generally not hard to hit A and B simultaneously, the jumps are much easier with this patch, and it's a feature that falls perfectly in line with its sequels. With respect to that, I'd gladly keep it as a permanent upgrade to my game and not go back to the baseline original.

In contrast, being able to dash from the start is a huge difference; breezing through the opening highway stage feels amazing, and the X2-esque air dash that comes with the leg upgrade sweetens the deal. This also levels out the playing field by giving unarmored X a fighting chance in any of the eight stages without making you feel like you have to get the leg upgrade first. Overall, X feels a lot more powerful with this patch, but this feeling of power is also where I find myself hesitating to keep it as a permanent feature.

The issue that I have is rooted in the storytelling in that X is supposed to start out weak by design, and getting out-maneuvered by the first boss plays into that. By starting out with the dash, X actually feels oddly too powerful in that this same dash-enabled, unarmored X that has massacred opening-stage bosses thrice his size in X2, X3, and X4, is somehow unable to make a dent in Vile's armor. For that reason, it's a fun experience but I can't see it as an essential staple.

Story aspects aside, both patches inject a dose of freshness into this beloved classic, and it finally corrects the game's critical issue of making the leg upgrade an immediate priority after clearing the opening stage. If you're not a stickler for story technicalities, then I highly recommended both patches, and even if you are, the wall dash feature is still an absolute keeper.
