Hack description

My first real attempt at ROM Hacking. This is a Hell Hack for the original Castlevania. The goal was to make the game as hard as possible while attempting to be fair in game play. Vets of the series should enjoy this, but an easy version is included as well.

Happy hunting, Vampire Killer.

WTF??onepiecefan20072018-07-31Version 1.0

Start by saying that I love the extreme challenges, but this isn't an extreme challenge, this is an impossible challenge! Let's face the truth: this hack isn't too much difficult at all, the first three levels are very good (except for the level design that is disgusting from start to end) but at the level 4 start the real problems. The backgrounds and the level design are worse than before, and if before they were disgusting you can now imagine how they are (small hint: it is a word formed by 5 letters that starts with S). The hack start to have a FPS drop and in some case (quite frequently) the game crashes. The fifth level is the same S**** of the fourth, so we can leave it and move on the last level. This hack reach the maximum of the S**** in this level. In this level there are a lot of enemies, so many to crash the emulator every five seconds, and I'm not kidding, I've timed it. My vote for this hack is 2/5

Which Castlevania 1 hack are we doing today...?

... *Cries a little*

You know, the first 3 levels of this hack are actually fantastic! When I first played this hack, I almost made it my life goal to beat it. Not joking. I absolutely loved the extreme challenge of this hack, and it was so well executed...

But then I made it to stage 4... this was where all the disappointment began...

The level design becomes horrible from here on out, and it's all just a cluster fuck. It was no longer about the perilous platforming... and to top it all off, there is a weird problem from here on out which I've NEVER seen in any other hack; the game can just randomly soft-lock at any time... that is unforgivable... oh, great Castlevania hack, why do you crush my dreams...

You know, I almost never do this sort of thing, but I actually decided to use save states to see the rest of the game, and see if stage 5 is any better, but the truth is, it's just an even BIGGER cluster-fuck... oh, and the final boss music is playing throughout the stage... it kind of freaks me out.

Stage 6 is just impossible, even with save states. Don't even bother, because even if you are masochistic enough to attempt it, it soft-locks every 5 seconds at this point, so it's not even worth it in any aspect.

My duty lately has been to review all of the horrible Castlevania 1 hacks, but this one actually had an emotional connection to me... I will never forgive the maker of this hack... (I'm just kidding, I got over it pretty quickly, but still... it's such a disappointment...).

If you want to play this hack, only play through the first 3 stages. When you collect the orb on the 3rd stage... turn off the emulator! Don't look anywhere past that! You'll be traumatized for life!

And that's all for this CV1 hack review, guys. I'm still deciding which one I'm doing next.
