Persephone, the cute demon maid girl who greets you, bows to you, and then proceeds to go Bruce Lee on your ass...is it any wonder she became such a popular character? In many ways, the spunky maid si one of the more iconic Castlevania characters after her introduction, appearing in several other games after this one even. And now, you can play as her yourself in a brand new story!

STORY: Persephone, alongside Carmilla, Olrox, and others find themselves within Dracula's Castle within the lunar eclipse after Soma escaped in the normal ending of the game...but what has brought them together? And why? And why does Persephone have the Power of Dominance just like Soma? Caminopreacher has done several other games with different characters that I've played before, but this one unfortunately falls a bit short. The story tries to build up to something, but ultimately feels nonsensical and hardly makes any sense at all. Even after finishing the game, I can't really explain what the heck was going on at all! It's a shame as several other of Camino's stories are far better than this one.

GAMEPLAY: Now THIS is where it's at! Playing as Persephone is very different from playing as Soma as...well, you're a demon maid and you're going to kick some butt! Persephone's primary form of attack is a kick at enemies with pretty short range, so the player has to be a little bit more cautious in how they approach combat. In fact, finding new shoes (weapons) isn't as common as Soma finding new swords, so learning how to make do with what you have available is key. To compensate for the lack of range, Persephone's Luck stat is greatly increased, making Soul drops significantly more common, a major boon as you'll depend on them in order to survive where her kicks are just too short a range. However, one beef I have with the soul drops is that many of them....don't make much sense. While many were repurposed into new spell effects (throwing pokers, eggs, or in particular, infusing her cat, Mr. Truffles, with all the elements), many of the remaining ones were scrambled around to where one enemy got a completely different enemy's soul and so on, with little to no reason for that. It's a bit....weird and jarring, though I suppose SOME of them could make a little extra sense if you think about it hard enough.

FUN: Despite a lot of my criticisms with this hack, I do find it to be fun times. The nonsensical story and random soul shuffling aside, readjusting how one fights in this game is a key element to progressing and staying alive, so the challenge factor is a bit higher in this game than the base one. Not to mention, some of the new souls were just funny, cause who WOULDN'T wanna throw sunny side-up eggs at bad guys!?

MY RATING: 7.5/10

I find it a shame that I wasn't overall as impressed with this hack as I had been Camino's other works. However, it is VERY important to understand the work one reviews, and this IS a JOKE HACK, not meant to be taken too seriously. However, the story is nonsensical and wasn't really necessary, the hit-box for what kicks will hit and what won't were sometimes wonky, the souls being reshuffled around to very different enemies for unknown reasons was just an odd choice, and overall, it felt like for as much effort as was put it, it could have done just a BIT better. For what's here, though, is pretty fun as Persephone is kinda fun to play as and seeing what crazy new powers she gets with every soul drop is exciting too. Late-game starts getting easy as certain item and souls set-ups can leave you virtually unbeatable. I defeated Chaos without a single item use. This is a novelty hack, one to not take TOO seriously, and just have fun with it. I sure did ^_^

I always loved Persephone and wanted to play with her, yesterday i was watching some unity tutorials and thinking about making a small homage to Persephone with a mini game, but then i started feeling that itch to type "Persephone Hack" on google just for the lols to see what happened. Imagine my expression of happiness when i found a video of a speedrun of this project.

The simple fact that this hack exists and the love poured into it is a gift from heavens HAHAHAH

Thanks for your great work and i cant recommend this hack enough! But hey, its Persephone Hack, does it even NEED any more words for you to download it? I dont think so! xD

For those of you who haven't played this yet, get it now and play it at least once. It is one of my favorite hacks of AOS, as i can progress the game very quickly without having to try for an hour to get a certain soul. For those who just want to revisit the game, pick up and play casually, this hack is great.

I have to agree that not finding more armor is kind of a bummer, but ends up being worth it in NGP. After boss rush is completed, the game really is just like a speed runners delight!

So to this hack I give a solid 9/10. Please do more. And Thank You!

Just played this hack. Despite it being rough around the edges, it's a good hack. The story fits along with the Castlevania canon. Portraits look a little muddy and the Persephone sprite could use a little touching up, though. But I understand the hacker was working with a limited sprite with regards to Persephone. Disappointed you spend a good portion of the game with your starting armor. Since Persephone attacks with kicks, it makes sense that her weapons are shoes. Looking forward to seeing more hacks like this one.
