Just a lot of fun!Ok Impala!2024-02-04Version 1.4

This hack was fun to play through. Almost all of the graphics are changed, and it was a surprise to see all the new enemies and environments. I got a chuckle out of some of the new skill portrait graphics like, "I got a rock!" or the new portrait when you lose all your health.

There is some great level design in this game that gets better as the game progresses. The first few levels seem to follow the original design closely, but later the author goes further and further in creating something of his own. Highlights are the museum and lab levels, with amazing custom graphics. I was also hugely impressed with the skyscraper boss fight. The game tends to surprise you when you least expect it, a hallmark of great design!

As for some nit-picking. The graphics don't always work well, and sometimes it just gets to busy with all the different colors that don't match that well together. And while the game does use the original soundtrack, I think that for some of the graveyard levels, other songs from the soundtrack would've been more fitting. A very upbeat and cheerful song just doesn't fit that well with tombstones. ;-)

Overall, this hack comes highly recommended for Kirby fans. It's a fun way to play through Kirby's Adventure again. Great work Kirb-Star!

I Declare This CanonMother Kojiro2023-11-29Version 1.4

I've seen this hack around, and finally decided to try it out, and it was beyond my wildest expectations. The worlds are beautiful and colorful; an impressive amount of detail was put into the base game, and just as much was put into this hack. Even being gorgeous from start to finish, there were areas beyond even that, many of which made me audibly gasp; the last room of Terror Tower and the pink forest in Mount Mist 3 are some of my favorite examples, but there are many. There are also areas where... something is going on; I don't want to spoil it, but you'll know it when you see it. The abilities have new icons, and a lot of them are funny; tornado and freeze are probably my favorites, but a lot of them are just great. With bright colors, wonderful detail, fun gameplay, great level design, goofball humor, and just a pinch of deep-seated psychological horror wearing a cute skin, I can say without a doubt that Kirb-Star understands exactly what makes Kirby what it is.

A great debut!The Beaky Buccaneer2021-02-28Version 1.3

As far as I can see, this is the first hack to be published by Kirb-Star, and what an excellent first work it is!

I tested the game in the versions of RetroPie for both the Raspberry Pi 4B 8GB and the Raspberry Pi Zero W, and it worked as it should on both.

The difficulty and the level-design in Kirby's Halloween Adventure are both on-par with the original Kirby's Adventure, and the game is a joy to play. The stages are well thought out, and although it doesn't seem like any changes have been made to the bosses' AI, they naturally behave in ways different to the original game because they've been placed in new environments, which makes things fresh.

The graphics work, both edited and original, is similarly excellent, with everything looking authentic to what you might see in official entries in the Kirby series; The Halloween-themed outfits that have been given to the characters and enemies who were already in the game are all fittingly cute. There are lots of great references included - for example, in the intro to the Spooky Seaside world, you'll see Kirby briefly dreaming about Ribbon, his fairy sweetheart from Kirby 64, and elsewhere you'll notice that the fan-favourite artist girl Adeleine has been brought in to replace the Paint Roller boss. The attention to detail is very high - you can tell that the author is a big fan of the Kirby series.

There are also fun references to things outside of the Kirby series, too, with (amongst others) the banner for the Spark ability showing Kirby wearing a Pikachu hat, and the banner for the Parasol ability making reference to Yondu Udonta's "I'm Mary Poppins, y'all!" line from Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and showing Kirby wearing Yondu's prototype fin, which raised a chuckle. This does not feel too out of place, either - after all, a large chunk of the story in the original Kirby's Adventure was clearly inspired by the then-recent animated movie Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland, so pop-culture references aren't unknown territory for the series.

The trailer, as linked in the description here, is similarly professional, and lends even more authenticity to the experience, with its blending of 1990s advertisement footage with promotional material for this hack, and a soundtrack drawn from audio that was released to mark Kirby's 25th anniversary back in 2017. This reminds me of how Nintendo used the marketing and manuals of times gone by to create an experience that went a bit beyond the games alone, and it's a welcome addition.

To the uninitiated the game could easily pass as a forgotten official release, and the only major giveaways that it's not are the story demo and its included Kirby's Adventure logo being left untouched, and the tutorial demo featuring an unedited Pengi enemy and some tile glitching in the description for the Burning ability.

Overall, this is an excellent hack that I would highly recommend to platformer fans and especially to fans of the Kirby series. I hope that the author will create more content like this in the future!

Interesting hack, in terms of graphic designdiablo6662020-10-17Version 1.3

While playing this, I felt like I was playing a different game. Graphically, the hack is beautiful. Everything is completely and well redrawn. I had no problem with it, because the eye was happy.

Levels - in terms of LEVEL design - are also good and refresh the original in their own way. In order for me to accurately evaluate this and the original, I had to look at each level a little bit. Maybe there are similar "screens" somewhere, but they are made in a different way. The only thing that disappointed me a little is one moment. When I played one of the mini-bosses in BOSS RUSH, I immediately came across an enemy that injured the character and took away my health. It's not a fair decision to move the character in such a way as to get cheap and unfair damage.

It was a pleasure to learn this hack. Some secrets were easily found, and some - without cunning in any way. Therefore, open your eyes wider and study every corner.

Maybe - I didn't fully study the game, maybe on the second round - even more tricks from the author, but, honestly, I was happy that even the first round of the game passed. And I got pleasure from passing. THE ONLY NEGATIVE, AS HIGHLIGHTED: "Boss rush" mini bosses - one of the mini bosses - dishonest and cheap damage we get from the enemy.

I recommend that you try this hack and rate the hack. My personal: 4.7/5
