As a Toxies fan, you can guess how disappointed I was when I saw the (very few) existing games based on this character. And its release for NES specifically, could have been a "just OK" game if it wasn't plagued by decisions that make you wonder if its programmers ever played a good game. One of those decisions is to use two buttons to hit, one weak and one strong. So what's the problem, you might think. Well, the thing is that both attacks look IDENTICAL, but one of them causes twice as much damage. That makes using the weak attack pointless. But worst of all, the strong attack is executed by pressing Select... yeah, I guess someone deserves an award for that. The other decision that borders on the absurd, is that the only thing that makes it minimally possible to beat the game is Toxie's weapon: his mop... but we lose it with a simple hit. That plus an annoying AI means that we usually don't keep it for more than a few seconds. And that's where this hack does its magic: With this patch, the game is still challenging but not impossible, thanks to the fact that we can upgrade our weapon. This also adds a plus of variety to the gameplay. And while it obviously doesn't fix an already pretty meh game, it's a step in the right way. Anyway, I can't stop recommending this hack and thank its author. PS It would be interesting to fix the problem I mentioned before with the strong and weak punch (for example swapping the buttons).

I do like the centered camera and never losing your mop, but it's still too hard to be any fun. Maybe instead of extra lives, halve or quarter the damage you take?
