Much betterBlazeHeatnix2022-08-13Version 1.0

There's a reason ALBW does not have Link grunting every single time he swings the sword. The original GBA version is just way too annoying.

Some people say "Well, Ocarina does the same thing and nobody complained there!" Yeah, because Ocarina handles sword combat very differently. You don't use the sword as often, especially as Young Link, and sword swings are much slower and more varied, with different voice clips for different combos. ALTTP in comparison encourages much more "spammy" sword combat, which means you will be in a lot of scenarios where you'll want to swing the sword multiple times in rapid succession. See why this is an issue?

But this hack beautifully fixes the issue, preserves Four Swords's voices, and it's a recommended solution over removing ALL voices, unless you just want an SNES-accurate experience.

Way Better than Original VoiceLexitik2020-10-29Version 1.0

  • The ALBW voice suits ALttP Link better.
  • Removing the voice on sword swings made it less annoying.
  • Hearing a slightly compressed version of the ALBW voice is kinda cute.
  • I will take your word when you say the voice of FS Link is unaffected as I can't really test that. ALttP and FS Link should feel a bit more unique compared to each other as a result.

Using Young Link's voice from OoT for ALttP was definitely a weird choice. I think the devs decided that because Link would use that voice in Four Swords they could give ALttP Link that voice as well, but it came off as forced. Not to mention it felt unnatural to hear the voice of a 9-10 year old Link from one that looked about 15-17.

A different patch removes the voice altogether, but this one is a good compromise. It comes down to preference whether you want a better voice or the absence of one altogether. This would be my first choice.
