Hack description

This hack attempts to solve one of Chrono Trigger's main flaws post Magus, the need to have Ayla in your party as to obtain every unique/special item through Charm.

Changes

Techs:

• Charm no longer steals, instead it's now a single target tech with a 80% chance of inflicting Stop to the target.


• Twin Charm also no longer steals, instead it's now a single target tech that will reduce a target's current HP by half and then inflict Confuse to the target. Targets immune to Magus' Blackhole are also immune to this tech.

Items:

• Reworked the Charm Top accessory into "Crown". Crown is a Marle only accessory that grants her "Royal Power". Royal Power grants her damage increase to all offensive abilities (same as PrismSpecs), MP regeneration during battle, Auto-Shield and Auto-Barrier.

Enemy Drops:

• Unique and special charmed items will now drop as a standard item drop upon defeating the enemy.


• Removed consumable items from enemy drops (with the exception of bosses). You will now have to keep buying those items instead of getting an infinite flow of them.


• Non-consumable items that are purchasable will not drop from enemies (with the exception of bosses). Example being the charmed weapons from Mt. Woe.


• Consumable items that are not purchasable (Lapis, Shield and Barrier) will drop from certain enemies starting at the Ocean Palace.


• Elixir and MegaElixir will not drop from enemies (with the exception of bosses).


• Moved Gold Stud from Flyclops to both Dalton and Dalton Plus.


• Moved Gold Erng from Synchrite to Atropos XR.


• Moved Nova Armor from Goon to Mega Mutant (both Upper and Lower).


• Removed MuscleRing from Incognito.

Cross Assembling

This hack is compatible with Chrono Trigger: Bugfix and Uncensoring Patch, but you will need to cross assemble the code into the ROM.

To do that, follow these steps:

• Download bass v14 and put bass.exe into the "src" folder.


• (Optional) Download the checksum calculator and put checksum.exe into the "src" folder.


• (Optional) Download flips and put flips.exe into the "src" folder.


• Open make.bat with a text editor and set DEFINE. EX for Bugfix and Uncensoring Patch or any other compatible ExHiROM hack and CATFOOD for the extra feature described below.


• Set INPUT to the name of your ROM. Default is "Chrono Trigger (USA).sfc".


• Save make.bat and run it.


• Once done, your new cross-assembled ROM will be chrono_drops.sfc.

Extras

As an extra, some changes to the cat food rewards from Norstein Bekkler's Tent of Horrors were added.
These changes are not included within the BPS patch, you will need to follow the steps above and cross-assemble it. Use CATFOOD in DEFINE.

These are the changes:

• Guessing Game: From 2 ounces to 10 ounces.


• Copycat Game: From 10 ounces to 50 ounces.


• Beanbag Throw Game: From 25 ounces to 100 ounces.

Source Code

• main.asm: Main source file, mostly asm. Not recommended to mess with.


• charm.inc: Contains the changes to Charm, Twin Charm and Charm Top. Feel free to adjust them to your liking.


• drops.inc: Contains the enemy drops. Feel free to adjust them to your liking.


• catfood.inc: Contains the changes to the cat food rewards. Feel free to adjust them to your liking
