It's a well made hack with many nice graphical details. I like it overall except for one sound detail which is particularly annoying to me: the game over music clearly taken or copied from Super Mario Bros. If this could be replaced it would be a 4/5 but for now it's 3.5/5.
| A template for future Ninja Gaiden hacks | Rendood | 2021-06-24 | Version 140.0 |
Pretty impressive hack of an already impressive game. There are new power-ups, and believe it or not, the spinslash isn't the most OP item anymore. Other than the usual powers like (re-dressed) shurikens and shield, Mr. Pool is equipped with a screen clearing bomb and a homing rocket that kills even bosses quickly. And unlike the NES game, you can cycle through every sub-weapon at all times à la Batman's utility belt. They also added a new temporary speed upgrade, and Deadpool regens a bit of health every 10 seconds (hey, that's canon!). The stages are redesigned, but maybe that's the least "new" part of the game because you can always tell what specific stage from the original you're in. I noticed the same thing in Castlevania: Chorus of Mysteries, both hacks altered the platform layouts but left the structure more or less intact. 6-2 still feels like 6-2, etc. There are some stage gimmicks Deadpool borrows from Ninja Gaiden 2 like the wind and icy platforms, and a Metroid style escape sequence. Finally, all the trademark Ninja Gaiden cutscenes were re-drawn with Marvel characters, including brand new dialogue in the 4th-wall-breaking style of Deadpool. No spoilers, but the end credits music is a fantastic reference. The game is fairly easy, at least compared to the original. There's no timer, checkpoints are more frequent (mid-stage too), having all weapons at once makes it easier to deal with any enemy placement, and enemies don't respawn. I hope any new Ninja Gaiden hacks look at Deadpool for reference. Definitely recommended.
| Such an great job! Couldn't recommend it more! | scorpion23 | 2020-06-03 | Version 140.0 |
I've played this from beginning go end, finished in 2 days, including the boss rush and the secret boss, and I'm amazed at how much work they put on this. The graphics are great, the story follows very closely the DP comics, the new abilities are very useful, and on top of that, this is a fair challenge! Expect something on the level of Ninja Gaiden 3, with some minor NG1 moments here and there, but average players could beat this hack without much trouble. Now, what you are waiting for? Just play it NOW!

This hack shows tremendous polish and dedication. The team had to maintain focus over several years, despite various setbacks. Full disclosure: I was one of the beta testers. Honestly, the beta that I played nearly two years before the official release would have been a great hack if they had stopped there. But they continued to refine their work, in a testament to their passion. Bravo, Techmoon. It is recognizably Ninja Gaiden, with its elegant physics and controls. Cutscenes proceed in about the same order, and you will recognize the skeleton of the original music beneath some of the new songs. But they have fixed the glaring problems of the original game - enemies now generally stay dead, player collision with enemies is better, and whereas Ninja Gaiden suffers from terribly dull bosses, the boss fights in this game are much more complex and satisfying. They have also augmented the game well beyond its original capabilities to create a distinctive, high-quality gaming experience. All walls can be climbed, with a smooth up-and-over mechanic when reaching a platform. Deadpool has access to several power-ups at all times. Some enemies cannot be killed except with a special bomb power-up, requiring a different strategy vs. the old brute force. There are levels with ice, conveyor belts, disappearing platforms, and a tense auto-scroller. Deadpool has a shadow, which becomes a reflection in "shiny" levels! Mid-level checkpoints and plenty of extra lives help cut down on frustration as the challenge increases. There is a sword power-up to increase the range and damage of the sword, and an occasional machine gun that is a lot of fun to spray. I don't have any complaints, but a few things I might change would be making the sword power-up easier to get for the players who might rely on it; taking the bomb and teleport abilities out of the inventory and assigning special button combos to enable them, because it becomes tricky managing all the powers; and offering more machine guns, because I love that thing. This is my favorite hack. After all the work that has gone into it, I hope we will see sequels or new levels someday...
| Never mind a hack. This is a brand new game! | Eldrethor | 2020-04-02 | Version 140.0 |
Character hacks tend to be iffy because many of them simply replace the sprites of an existing character, and that's a novelty that wears itself out really quick (e.g. see Streets of Rage 2). The talented guys behind Techmoon went above and beyond, and transformed the original game to such a drastic degree that you're not playing Ninja Gaiden featuring Deadpool; you're playing Deadpool: The Video Game. The bare bones of the game are still Ninja Gaiden, and you can clearly see it as you play, but literally every facet of the game has been changed. Deadpool looks and plays the part, and Ryu's magic spells have been fully replaced with a slew of weapons that he has had his hands on over the years. He even has his healing factor that regenerates health over time. Cut scenes between levels now feature our Merc With A Mouth, along with dialog that fits his character like a glove. Even the soundtrack was entirely redone with all brand new tracks, including an outstanding 8-bit rendition of X Gon' Give it To Ya. All of the enemies and bosses themselves received face lifts as well, and you'll get a good laugh at what some of them have become. What really took me by surprise was the new attack patterns that the bosses now have, many of which are surprisingly a lot more fair than in the original Ninja Gaiden. The levels also got some significant changes as well, with Easter eggs thrown in here and there. Although they can feel a bit too similar to their original counterparts (the first level is still a stretch of streets), they're different enough that it's easy to look past that. My only gripe is that the color choices feel bizarrely otherworldly in a few places, but it doesn't detract from the game's appeal. What especially impressed me was that the hack even throws in some really nice options, including difficulty settings, languages, and a tutorial mode that gets you acquainted with all of Deadpool's weapons and abilities. All of that on top of all of the sprite work and music tracks really shows how much love went into this hack. Overall, I love everything about this, and I highly recommend it. It isn't just a hack; it's a whole different game, and it's a stellar job from a team that put a lot of time and effort into this project, and pushed through to the very end, even after the pacsnsacdave scandal. But that's another story.
| Good but not perfect. | ActionHenk | 2020-02-14 | Version 140.0 |
A lot of effort went into this hack, for example if you stay still for 10 seconds you recover energy like Deadpool does in canon. But there are some problems. My biggest gripe is the flashing enemies who absolutely cannot be defeated except by placing a bomb. This is not an improvement to the game, but a step back.
| THIS is more than a hack! | diablo666 | 2020-01-26 | Version 140.0 |
I watched this hack for only 2 years, but even the BETA version-already showed its coolness. Now this is the final version. And what can you say about the hack? Well, let's break 4 walls, take CHIMICHANGAS, a DEADPOOL doll and see from all sides what and how it is played? 1. History changes. Although the original "graphic" inserts from the Ninja Gaiden are taken, they are redrawn so qualitatively that there are no quibbles. As if that were true. 2. The main engine of the game. The basis is rewritten. Now the character can climb directly on the platform, rather than as it was in the original. 3. Levels and graphics. High-quality drawn graphics. It is clearly clear how and where you can go or get up. In levels-there are no dishonest PITS, which is good. Complexity does not jump sharply. It is gradually becoming more complicated. 4. Character abilities. Have this Character - MUCH of abilities - new. Teleport, various weapons, long sword (as in 3 parts). From the old ones-a killer Spinner and a temporary shield (here it is made as a meat shield for dogs). However, new and old-well combined! 5. The character himself. Redrawn qualitatively. In different stages - other animations of its " inactivity" 6. Game menu. It contains "start game", "settings", "Boss rush" and "Continue" (the "Boss rush" and "continue" items are opened from other actions). You can change the difficulty of the game and change the language (for dialogs and menu items). There are 4 languages in the game. (wanted the 5th, but the Russian does not fit, for some reason... sorry). A variety of languages - I have only seen in GBA games, which is interesting enough 7. Bosses. There are main bosses, which in the story, there is also a secret boss. Main bosses-remaking the AI of old bosses in a new way. But there are also new bosses or " taken from 3 parts". Honestly, they are qualitatively redrawn, qualitatively changed and old bosses, and new bosses fit well. No discomfort from this game. Secret boss is just written from scratch. Be careful with it 8. New in-game dashboard. What's new in the player panel: 1. The character icon. Emotions show that he is in pain, he looks at his health (breakage of 4 walls, Yes) and calm. 2. Counter of killed enemies. Destroyed the enemy, he added. 3. Regeneration time. This shows how long it will take to improve our health. It gets lost if the enemy or boss touches us. 9. Adding "in-game statistics". At the end of the game-it shows how many were in the game, enemies killed, deaths and our RANK 10. Features of the game. There is it in changing the wind, releasing lightning by the enemy, quicksand, destructible platforms, the level of "escape" and more... what was not previously in the original 11. Music. There are remixes of games, there are also from other movies or self-written. It goes well together 12. Secrets and Easter eggs. There are alternative paths and other rooms. There are other modes. And Easter eggs - so car and a small truck. 13. A lot of familiar characters and a special MIX. There are characters from games, various comics, movies. They represent either as enemies or as bosses. The game takes the original and completely changes it, so it seems that nothing remains of it. Hint that this is a hack-if you look closely at Ninja Gaiden 1 and this game. "title story" - only gives out. And so - it is original, interesting and unpredictable. It's a nice place to spend time. It feels different than playing the original Ninja Gaiden 1. I spent a lot of time to fully study this hack. It amazes me how much is invested in this project. And at the exit-to give a MIRACLE of MIRACLES. Maybe someone will notice some problems, but they overlap and you don't notice it. You are immersed in this game. Conclusion: Another hack that may seem more than just a hack. THIS IS A NEW GAME. Status: Recommended and "NEW GAME"

Highly faithful to Deadpool's character, even down to the humor. Lots of little nods to other media via enemies and music. I highly recommend this hack.
| Tech(moon) Gon' Give it to Ya! | eskayelle | 2019-10-20 | Version 140.0 |
If Marvel had licensed a Deadpool game to Capcom or Tecmo back in the '90s, I'm not sure it would've gotten as loving a treatment as Danger X, NiO, and the rest of the Techmoon team has done with this beauty. Deadpool is Ninja Gaiden hard, which you'd expect, but the team gives you a Mercy option and a secret code (that code revealed provided you can beat the game and the boss rush... or provided you can do some romhacking yourself... but I won't spoil their fun for you...). It's a fun hack-and-slash platformer with a lot of cool environments, weapons, and Pool-rich cutscenes. Plus, the villains and story characters are nice throwbacks to a number of the comic's series, from the first run and into Deadpool Corps. Meanwhile, Retroslam's tunes are fun and fit well with the plot (particularly Cruisin' and The Great Escape), and the team's takes on X Gon' Give it To Ya and Careless Whisper are great nods to the first movie, the Deadpool Mix being a fantastic first level track. And then you head over to the team's Facebook page, and the devs load you up with content: ROMs and images that you can play on your NES/NES Classic, GBS/DS, 3DS, Dreamcast, PSX, or Switch; professionally made box art; a zany manual/comic; and all those catchy songs in .mp3 format. Plus, there's an opportunity to buy the legit NES repro cartridge CIB with the manual and other goodies. If I have any nits, they're pretty minor:
This is a AAA-quality title completely worthy of your NES Classic, old school NES, GBA, and all the other systems this team has tirelessly setup the game to be compatible with. If you're a Deadpool, hack-and-slash, platformer, or just a retro game fan, you need this game in your life! WHAM!

Following the motto of dear Stan Lee (RIP), this hack goes a step beyond than a simple re-skin: The Big-mouth Merc keeps Ryu Hayabusa's basic moveset, adding a bunch of new attacks (such as teleporting). Stages and enemies have many changes, so that means new challenges (some of them really difficult, but hey, we talk about an NG hack). The music has also been changed, and the plot is full of... probably the kind of stuff do you expect (no spoilers here, bro). In a few words: the game feels known and new at the same time, breathes effort and affection and, after fixing some small bugs (maybe on later versions), can we speak without a doubt of one of the best hacks ever made.
| Worth the Long Wait! | Ziko | 2019-10-12 | Version 140.0 |
Today was a great day playing this long awaited Deadpool hack as I'm a fan of the character as well as the Ninja Gaiden series. The team took their time with this one and it shows as it's one of the best hacks if not the only one out there. Everything feels different, it looks nice, and the soundtrack was far better than when the demo was released before. In fact, I was taken aback when I heard an 8 bit rendition of X Gon' Give it to Ya! In terms of the gameplay, the game has been polished in that all powerups are accessible from the start and are all great. The only gripe is that I wish I had the machine gun as the main shot weapon instead of a pistol as sure the pistol's fine but the range in limited. The boss fights even felt different and not just simple palette swaps either. I felt that they were challenging but not too annoying. The final fight was still tough as it felt like I was fighting myself but I see that they took the criticism of it to heart as he doesn't regen health anymore unlike in the demo. Also, it didn't make much sense to the character's skill set anyway. I won't spoil it but it's a bit of a foregone conclusion as to who he is. Another thing is that the detail to the Marvel characters and even DC characters are so accurate given the NES limited capabilities but man, I was so impressed seeing Batman as a mook or even lesser known characters getting some love. Overall, this game is one of the best I've played all year.
