Hack description

This ROM hack contains 15 new tracks, new sound samples, and a new palette for the Wild Goose. The tracks go from easy to hard. The tracks are in a different order than the original F-Zero. Legacy versions are included for preservation's sake.

The brakes (X or Y on the SNES controller) are very important in this romhack, so make sure you have them mapped! Also the Fire Stingray is the hard mode of this game, you should probably pick another vehicle first time through.

Changes in Deluxe:

Special note for older versions:
this was intended as a Proof of Concept for Sound Sample alteration, this is NOT high quality, I'm not proud of this in the slightest, if you're *really* curious, then download I guess, but don't expect this to be very good.

Misses the markMetalSmasher862020-09-21Version 1.2

The first thing you hear when you start up this hack is a change to the musical soundfont, which really messes up most of the music in the game. I found it honestly grating to the ears. They say if it ain't broke, don't fix it, and the music of this hack illustrates that phrase perfectly.

There is quite a bit of fake difficulty involved with these tracks. The first Big Blue track in particular, the second track of the game, felt harder than most of the King League, and for all the wrong reasons. The track just looks and feels like a bunch of scribbles. The Death Wind courses are also notable offenders in this category. F-Zero is all about speed, and those tracks don't allow for much of it.

Another display of laziness is the sequel tracks. In F-Zero, some tracks like Death Wind 1, Port Town 1, and Red Canyon 1 would have another section of track blocked off that would later be raced on in their sequels (Death Wind 2, Port Town 2, and Red Canyon 2). But some of the sequel tracks in this hack just feel like the exact same track over again (Sand Ocean 2 and Fire Field 2 especially).

So it pains me to say this, but as an avid F-Zero fan, this is the first F-Zero hack I've played that doesn't do justice to the base game or to the franchise, and is the first F-Zero hack that I can't recommend.
