No-Intro Name: Mega Man 3 (USA)Hack description
Three years ago, a hack of Mega Man 3 called "Mega Man 3 Ultimate" was released by romhacker TheSkipper1995. It was meant to be a relatively simple hack built on top of KujaKiller's "Mega Man 3 Improvement", rebalancing some of the game's level design and difficulty curve. At the time, the hack was considered satisfactory if a bit conservative in its changes to the base game.Screenshots

| Mega Man 3 Revamped - EXCELLENT | Dobu_GM | 2024-02-14 | Version 1.1 |
Mega Man 3 Revamped Levels: Good Graphics: Excellent Music: No Change Enemies: No Change (?) Bosses: Good (few tweaks) Weapons: Good (few tweaks) Castle: Excellent Difficulty: EASY (Wily castle is EASY-MEDIUM) Comments: Revamped is a remaster of Skipper1995's Ultimate hack—this time with some gorgeous visuals that bring Mega Man 3 closer to something like Mega Man 6. The graphics really are the star of the show here: lots of new background tiles, some extra color here and there, and some really cool minor touches, like Top Man generating sparks when he spins and Spark Man's sprite displaying an actual face now. Most of the stages are by and large are the same from Ultimate (robot masters especially), but the hack puts in some extra credit for the Wily stages, making some top-notch platforming that might be a teensy bit too hard for base Mega Man 3—but I enjoyed it. Beyond that there's a couple weapon tweaks, the Doc Robots have been made more fair, and more items are replaced with mystery boxes (which is cool). It may not be one of my favorite hacks, but it's impossible to disagree with Revamped's quality; this is a resounding upgrade to Mega Man 3.
| Jeez... thank you so much. | Plaindillo | 2023-12-14 | Version 1.1 |
Gosh where do I begin? The level design is such a massive step up. It's incredible how many set pieces were utilized in ways I didn't think were possible! Such as the magnet enemies or rising platforms in spark man's stage. And God, the wily stages are exponentially improved. I love a good challenge in my megaman game, and this right here is it. I was so overjoyed at the fact that I died a few times in the wily stages! They feel so full, and well thought out. And it felt like the game was finally complete. Additionally, the graphics are beautiful, the bug fixes are so very much appreciated, and I am glad that one of these hacks managed to fix the parts with Breakman. And one of my favorite parts are the improvements to the weapons! Many have so much more practical use, and I am in love. All these elements make megaman 3 now a very high contender for my favorite megaman game of all time! If I had any criticism, these would be them: 1. Spark Shock is still the worst weapon by a landslide, featuring no adjustments made. Its a weapon that basically just stops enemies, and for the most part, makes them just a big roadblock, since you cant damage them, and its really difficult to finagle around the enemies anyways. I'd recommend spark shock either retaining it's effect after switching weapons, or making enemies' damaging hit box disappear while in use, allowing you to walk past with ease. 2. Many wily castle bosses still suffer from the issue of having no invincibility frames, making many of them end in seconds at times. This I feel is especially an issue for the copy megamans, as despite it being random which one can be hit, the fight is trivialized in seconds simply by finding the right one, selecting search snake, and pressing shoot a few times. The bosses in wily's castle should pose a challenge, even with a weakness. 3. This is mostly a nitpick to be honest, but I think Gamma's damage tables should be modified to remove top spin as his weakness. He's the final boss, after all, and in my opinion, the fight should not be able to end in a single hit, simply by using a common weapon. Gamma poses a much larger, and tense threat while using the search snake, and I think forcing the player to actually fight the boss may improve the experience a lot, and make the game feel that much more complete. Lastly, I'm aware, this hack is nearing its 5th year of age, and I doubt that any major changes will be brought, additionally, the critiques may be impossible to implement, I'm no experienced romhacker, so I must reiterate that I am more than grateful this dedicated team worked to make this game feel so much more awesome, and ultimately so close to the original, completed vision the developer's had. Phenomenal job! Bravo!
| A flex of level design mastery - what the original should've been | Woodfrog | 2022-10-31 | Version 1.1 |
This is not one of those crazy hacks that adds in new enemies, wild bosses and remixed music that Mega Man is usually known for, yet it easily sits among the best of the bunch. If you feel like going for a good old playthrough of one of the NES MM games, I strongly recommend giving this a shot - you won't be disappointed. Building upon the improvement patch that features various bugfixes and QOL changes, Revamped aims to iron out the game design part of the package in the same way. Using only the base game's assets and some minor graphical tweaks, it does sweeping changes to the level design, keeping the game's soul intact while ironing out the quirks and making the experience significantly better. If you're wondering how much better MM3 can get, this hack gives you the answer: a whole damn lot. And MM3 is a really good game to begin with. The levels all keep their original themes, enemy sets, bosses and general flow - the changes are in the terrain layouts and enemy placements, and it's amazing how much of an improvement these 2 alone can make. Each screen is meaningful and enemy types are utilized to their fullest to provide interesting challenges - there is no "filler" to be found here. The notorious unstable difficulty curve of the original has been fixed and the game flows much better as a result - the initial 8 stages are engaging but still give you space to breathe, the doc stages ramp things up reasonably, and the Wily castle is now finally a worthy final gauntlet (it's worth playing for this alone). Above all else, the hack is amazingly consistent - there are no low points here, no stage that feels less polished than the rest, not even minor stretches that feel out of place. It's easy to forget that you're playing a fan-made hack at all. It also never goes overboard in difficulty - this feels right at home with the NES originals. Never boring but never frustrating. The only thing that feels off is Shadow Man whose notorious pattern has not been altered, but even in this case the fight has been made better by making his problem moves deal less damage. The hack also brings in some subtle graphical changes that, like the level design portion, feel right at home. They're the kind of changes that you won't notice much past the first impression, but will definitely miss when going back to the original. Sums up the whole thing really - it just feels natural. Feels like it's what was actually supposed to be on the cartridges back then, making the original look like an amateur level hack in comparison. This is not an alternate version or a sidegrade. This is a strict upgrade over the original MM3. It's the same core, it has the same identity as the original, but it's given the polish and respect it deserves.
| The Superior Mega Man 3!! | Juaramboocha | 2022-09-08 | Version 1.1 |
I'll start my review by comparing this patch to the base game. I am actually a big fan of the 8 robot masters stages from it. Some are on the short side and one is perfect-NES-MM (Snake Man), so i can tell you with unwaverng honesty and enthusiasm; this is the definitive way to play Mega Man 3. Now all stages (not just the robot master ones) have extensive visual embellishment which enhances the aesthetic; as well as level design changes which, enhances the experience. The gimmicks and enemies aren't used once and then thrown away; nope they're usually taught first and then experimented with and then brought back in other levels really fun ways! or deadly... The most rushed aspect of the game; the Dokuro Bots are fixed too. The most unfinished aspect of the game, The Wily Castle is extremely good here, hard, fair and FUN; and of a perfectly sensible length. And the difficulty curve is now a natural progression from R.Ms to D.R to WILY! The set of weapons is still only a little above average and i found the game to be more fun sticking to Buster and a few of the weapons (ShBl, HaKn, RuJe, SeSn) The fixes done to the weapons are neutral they make the experience better but not by much, at least they're enhanced. Though, the terrible Spark Shock is left almost entirely unchanged! You can switch weapons on the fly which helps to keep the pace quick!! Good stuff. This is what this game should always have been. it has become my go-to instead of MM3 IMPROVEMENT, AND I URGE YOU TO PLAY IT!!
| Great mod!! I love this! | knekt | 2022-02-06 | Version 1.1 |
This is what Mega Man 3 should have been back when it was released. I want to overwrite my oeiginal Mega Man 3 cartridge with this rom hack, and I don't care about preservation. That's how great this is. Wow! In essence: this is Mega Man 3 with some serious spit and shine. Nothing in hee has been changed and altered,it's all just tuned and pollished. Byild off of Kuja Killers Mega Man 3 Improvement mod that optimizes code to reduce lag and smoothen gameplay significantly, Revamped gently touches up the levels in the places where it makes total sense. It's the perfect companion hack to 'Improvement', as they compliment each other perfectly. For example: the way that water is introduced into the gemini level, the top spin platforms in top man's stage, or thr elevaring platforms at sparkman's, is all very natural. Simply brilliant! I have but one complaint; and it's not tied to this hack in particular: Why the lousy name? Revamped?! If the mod isn't called 'Ultimate', or 'Overhaul', it's always 'Re'-something, isn't it? 'Revamped', 'Reimagined', 'Reborn', 'Remixed', 'Remastered', 'Reloaded', 'Recharged', 'Re-yada-yada.... Are you modders all really that unimaginative as a collective? It's bad and cringeworthy and you know it very darn well, don't you? I almost skipped out on this one cause of my policy of disregarding every meeeh 'Re-something' mod out there. Come on, man, this one is great!
| Mega Man 3 Revamped - A fresh look at MM3 | diablo666 | 2021-10-18 | Version 1.1 |
To be honest, the last thing I expected was anything to surprise me ... But this hack can, however. New levels and graphics - refresh and so pretty decent hack from Kuja Killer's and TheSkipper1995. Levels are played differently. It seems that CAPCOM themselves had a hand. It is played differently. Even very balanced. However, I can not help but notice the error in the game. And I will be in solidarity with some. 1. Break man for Stage Gemini Man. Why does that character have a helmet closed first, and then closed a second time? If you wanted to do mystery, then remove this stupid animation. It looks weird. Same the caviar animation has been removed (the one that, when destroyed, releases fry). Without it, the level feels less alive. 2. Stage Top Man. Approach to the E Bank. On the one hand - there should be spikes, and on the other - a brick that does not allow to pass, without breaking it. And it turns out "It's impossible to take it, but there is a hole. Just slip through" 3. Some bosses have swapped places. This feels weird, for I'm already used to the standard arrangement of BOSSES at all levels. An example of this level: DOC bots Needle man and Shadow man Stages In addition to inaccurate solutions, there are pluses. 1. Updated boss. Spark man - The updated AI of this - can be confusing and even reveals the essence of its abilities that we receive. It has become more complicated and interesting. 2. Updated Wily Stage 1. It's night, not evening. The addition of stars is an increase in the atmosphere of the stage itself 3. Different paths in Wily Stage 2. I didn't know that when I first went through the hack. Because in the original this never happened, and that's not guessed. 4. Redesign of all stages at Wiley castle. This is quite time-consuming, but quite well done work. However, I lack in one stage, or rather in two stages - changes (the Penultimate and the last) The stages are updated, feels really like "Ultimate", BUT I'll CALL IT A FRESH TAKE on MegaMan 3. For information, to RECOMMEND. However it is necessary to correct the author
| A fun twist on an old favourite | G30FF | 2021-02-27 | Version 1.1 |
I was never one of the people who felt that the original game needed much in the way of level design tweaks. But after playing this a few times, it's hard to go back to vanilla MM3 and not notice how lacking the level design can be at points. Level gimmicks appear once and never are seen again. Things like the giant tops in Top Man stage, and the Mag Flies in Magnet Man stage especially. There are a couple of large stretches of nothing happening. The Wily Stages are really short. The changes made here are absolutely to the benefit of the game, and newly designed stages are a treat to play through. They strike the right balance between challenge and teachable moments, while still being familiar. The new Wily Castle stages in particular include some genuinely clever sections that gave me some real "aha!" moments when I figured them out. A couple of notes:
I definitely recommend this hack as an excellent level design hack. A lot of work has gone into every aspect of it, and it shows. I'm not sure yet whether it'll replace vanilla MM3 for me, but time will tell.
| Fantastic Version - Detailed Breakdown | slider | 2019-11-13 | Version 1.0 |
I registered to be able to review this game. I've always like playing MM3 and am pretty good at it. Definitely not a speed runner or masochist for difficult versions. There are many versions of this that I've played like Improvements (awesome), Mushroom Kingdom, Justiley, My Little Pony, Ridley X vs Gamma, The Battle of Gamma, and The Rise and Fall of Doctor Wily. This is by far my favorite one! All irritating and annoying screens have been removed with ones that are more interesting. A few require a bit of thought while others are just more fun. You may die during some sections, but you can easily figure out the faster ways of getting through them. Some magnet flying sections may take a few times to learn, but feel great when you learn how to get through them. Some other versions of this game feel like an endless slog of trying to remember when a random enemy pops up and kills you. This may happen for you a couple times, but it's very limited and not annoyingly punishing. I've played through multiple times and have gotten better at flying through sections quickly and in a fun manner. It's hard to play the original version now :) I like how some fixes to Spark Man's stage make moving through more fluid. I like how many times you don't have to use Rush Coil (pointlessly) to jump on a ladder or platform (for reasons). Some subjective critiques are as follows:
Thank you very much for the improved graphics of the backgrounds of the levels. Thank you very much for everything from Improvements. Thank you very much for more interesting screens. Thank you very much for improvements to some bosses. Thank you very much for removing all irritating screens. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR making the Wily stages far more fun! Thank you very much for putting the effort in to make a better game! I would love to talk to the creators to talk about specific feedback. Overall... Thank You. And see you next. ;)
| A wonderful edition! | NARFNra | 2019-11-07 | Version 1.0 |
Normally, I'm a bit neutral on improvement type hacks - I appreciate them, but don't take the time to try them myself. This one caught my eye, though, in particular for its mention that it expanded the fortress stages. Since those have always been one of MM3's weaknesses and many hacks haven't addressed it, I was drawn in my interest in that regard. I'm pleased to state that the hack more than met my expectations! The gameplay changes are seamless enough that you could feel like this is what MM3 was really supposed to play like while simultaneously being well designed enemy gauntlet and platform rooms. The new and restored graphics help show just how bland some of MM3's can be at times and in particular jazz up Top, Snake, Spark, and the Wily stages! The Gemini background planet is returned to us as well, of course. Overall, this is just one of those hacks that's a really nice one to play. It feels very professional and nice, and I was very surprised to see the addition of branching paths as well. I did slightly wish that Wily 4 was extended as well, but I know that doing so is pretty hard - it was mostly just because the expanded nature of Wily 1-3 gives the fortress a really strong character it was lacking in the original, and I loved it all the way through. The boss hitbox changes are noticeable - I could actually dodge the Devil Mk. 2, for instance, haha. Overall, a brilliant hack, and one of the best revamp attempts I've seen! I definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to play 3 but has gotten tired of its flaws, or even to those who've never tried it before and would like a more complete experience!
