The definitive edition for small dreamers like myself.AyasatoCo2024-01-10Version 1.01

I consistently regard retranslations as remarkable, particularly when they are undertaken to restore modified localized content, such as terms and dubbing. It is truly commendable work, resulting in the ultimate experience.

This and ZX Advent's undub patch are the perfect thing these two games needed the most, but sadly as others have stated the both of them keep japanese terminology that is extremely off putting to anyone who follows the Mega Man storyline through it's western localizations, even other undub/relocalization patches for other Mega Man titles at least have (usually) the option to play with western or japanese terminology.

As it is, as much I wanted to enjoy my favorite titles with their JP Voice Acting, it just isn't worth the annoyance of having to get used to these terms that were never introduced to us in the first place.

I'm really hoping that the creator of this patch hasn't completely put aside the idea of making an optional western patch, because I really wanna experience them like this.

When it comes to translation hacks, this one is an interesting case. Some retain conventions that were set by the localization, while others fully embrace the original (e.g. Sailor Moon's "Serena" vs "Usagi"). This hack falls into the latter, and your satisfaction with it will depend on your expectations.

As undubs go, it's an excellent hack. I think the US version's script is fine, so it doesn't need rewriting, but I was never happy with Capcom's decision to leave the FMV's in Japanese and strip out voiced dialog. With this, you get everything: the English script, the omitted voice clips, the Megaman Zero 3 and 4 bosses. This is the most complete version of MMXZ that you can get.

The Japanese terminology inserted into the written dialog looks clean, and the text seems to align with the voiced dialog well enough. What's especially impressive is that this even extends to the cutscenes. It's more accurate this way, and I'm fine with it, but this will not be to everyone's tastes. Go into this hack expecting the Japanese version with English subs, and you will not be disappointed.

My only criticism is that by naming this hack "Mega Man ZX Undub", it sets the expectation for a US localization, which it's not. Something like "Rock Man ZX Translated" would be a more apt description of what this hack accomplishes. A separate patch that retains the localized terminology would be a satisfying solution as well.

That aside, Geo did a phenomenal job with this hack. The game feels so much more robust and complete in this state, and it has permanently replaced the US version in my lineup. Highly recommended!

Does exactly what it's supposed toBIGDOG2021-08-31Version 1.01

I'm only making this review because the other 2 left here are negative for a frankly absurd reason. The patch restores a few names and terms to how they are in Japanese, IE Mega Man becomes Rockman and any terms based on that are altered accordingly. That's literally the only reason the other 2 reviews on here are telling you not to download it.

Even though restoring the full voice acting (well, as full as you can reasonably expect, all story cutscenes are voiced, just not random conversations you strike up with NPCs) that was idiotically and lazily cut from the English versions of the game makes this patch a NECESSITY for a remotely completely ZX experience with English text and if you're gonna have the characters literally saying "Rockman this, Rock-on that" out loud you might as well have the subtitles reflect it, having to accept that Rockman is called Rockman in his land of origin is just too much. Absolutely ridiculous.

Look, if I wanted to play the game using Japanese names and terms, I'd play the game in Japanese. This patch has a lot of potential, but is held back by awkward Japanese terminology feels completely out of place within the English language, as well as within the other English games in the Mega Man franchise.

Coming from Mega Man X or Zero and starting up this hack feels jarring because of naming inconsistencies. I feel this patch could hugely benefit by changing the Japanese terms back to English (maybe an optional patch?).

Too puritan, even for me.RealGaea2019-11-12Version 1.01

Why not patching the voiced/undub scenes for USA/EUR Roms, and that's it?

I'll wait until a proper undub patch comes up.
