Phantasy Star IV (USA).md - NOINTROHack description
PSIV Arranged Version is a slightly more difficult version of PSIV. The main differences include a significantly slower EXP/MST gain in addition to new item and weapon uses. The goal of this romhack is not to force the player to grind for more levels and cash, but simply to force him or her to examine dozens of options that the game makes available to the player that may have otherwise been overlooked in a normal playthrough.Screenshots

I've beaten PS4 more times than I care to admit, so it's always been a bit easy for me. This hack makes some simple tweaks that do exactly what they say and it surprisingly made the game much better for about the first 75-80%. However, despite me knowing this game inside and out, there were more than a few grindy moments needed towards the end of the game. Things started getting bad with the Eclipse Torch portion of the game where mobs and bosses started all being faster than everyone in your party. Not a problem for most of the game (although there seemed to be an absurd amount of missed attacks because my heroes' Dex was lower than usual), but in later stages, where magic casters blast away like cannons at your characters, regardless of equipment, an ambush will instantly make your party critical or outright kill 1-2 members right away. Since XP was roughly halved, it takes that much longer to build your heroes back up to where they can even survive ambushes, let alone some of the boss fights (one of which near the end may be bugged—it just kept spamming the exact same annoying high damage, full-party attack the entire fight). Finally (and least), there are a number of typos and text goof ups related to the newer material added. In addition, the additional material is virtually useless as the new equipment effects aren't even close to worth using (a staff with a status effect is never going to be as useful as 2 shields for casters-especially when those effects don't work on any robots). An expanded inventory might have been more helpful than most of the equipment changes. I know this sounds bad, but overall I'd recommend this hack if you want a new PS4 challenge, but would rather not play the Hell/Purgatory hacks. Most of the game works quite well, but it's very obvious the last 25% doesn't. Even using all the options available and the best equipment, it's still pretty mandatory to be a reasonably high level to finish this game. | |||
