Now this is a really good and complete hack. Being a huge fan of both TMNT and SOR2 since I was a child, and played both a lot, seeing the two combined in this was a treat. The turtles plays really well, the moves are really quick, good for speed running. A lot of nice touches like custom character select screen, intro, and ending image. The inclusion of Shredder is really cool as well. I highly recommend playing for all TMNT and SOR2 fans alike.

You can definitely sense that it feels like streets of rage 2 with turtle characters. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. It still looks and feels good and plays great. I enjoyed this hack. Thanks.

I haven't played the first two iterations of this hack, so I don't have a feel for how its predecessors compare. That being said, this is an incredible hack with a high level of polish, and one can tell that a lot of love and care was put into it. Each character feels unique and plays so fluidly that they don't even feel like sprite swaps. It genuinely feels like I'm playing with the Ninja Turtles instead of Axel's posse, and the "hee-YAH!" and "Turtle Power" sound bites especially drive this point home. Admittedly, being able to change starting levels and number of lives removes the challenge of beating the game without a Game Over, but I also find that this gives me the ability to freely experiment with the patch at my leisure, and having 99 lives doesn't detract from the insanity that the unlocked Maniac mode brings to the table. The only major criticism that I have is the role of weapon pick-ups. Since each Turtle is already armed, picking up a weapon simply changes your attack combo into a single power swing. On one hand, this lets you damage enemies that can block normal attacks, but I don't feel any difference between a knife and a lead pipe or a katana. Aside from that are just minor graphical gripes. I feel like there's an overuse of green in the enemy color pallets, and the new pink/silver pallet for the "Light" thugs look off-putting to me. Then there's Mike's lunging nunchaku attack animation, in which the last frame displaying the flurry feels like it persists for too long. On the bright side, I really love seeing Shredder in place of Shiva, the recolor job on the "Warrior", and the new ending graphic. Gripes aside, this is a fantastic hack that outshines the numerous sprite hacks that are out there for Streets of Rage 2. With its high level of polish and fine-tuning, it goes above and beyond by turning the game into its own standalone beast.
