Fun and Interesting Spin on MM4SnufflepusPenguin2024-05-23Version 1.0

This is a very neat side-grade to Mega Man 4. Stage design often is challenging, but not unfair. My favorite stage is Pharaoh Man's - Adding ice mechanics completely changes the layout of the stage and makes for some very enjoyable, albeit perilous, platforming. Graphically, using multiple different tilesets and backgrounds from different MM games allows for much more distinct and interesting looking levels, my favorite being Bright Man's stage.

I also appreciate how the endgame is longer than the base game, for example, the late Wily Stages have some more length, and reuse stage mechanics, which is something the original lacked, for example the hovering platform robots over spikes. The game rewards you for finding secrets and has some funny easter eggs in the Wily castle.

Overall, if your looking for a nice twist on a great base game, give this romhack a try.

MМ 4 - RidleyX Hack 11 - Good and interesting levelsdiablo6662022-01-02Version 1.0

I returned to this hack after a while and over time - it really remained interesting.

In this hack, the levels were changed in their own way, while they turned out to be quite interesting and unique. As an example, I will say: Winter Egypt (It's snowing, the Megaman is sliding, it's cold and difficult to pass inside the pyramid, torches are barely visible, which are trying to warm this pyramid)

The bosses are at least slightly complicated, but they feel more interesting than the original ones. It was nice to fight against them and look for new weaknesses.

The graphic part is really well done. Very good, does not cause complaints, on the contrary: "To some extent complements the original game, or just goes well together"

But the cutscenes - it would be better not to touch, because it really looks strange

But whatever it was - It's a nice hack that you can and you can try.

Really greatTimaeus2020-03-12Version 1.0

This is the best hack from Ridley X so far in my opinion. It have fixes from some issues from his other hacks, and everything feels fresh and nice, but it still have some issues.

The level design is between great for the most part. While it has great pros like multiple paths in almost every level, warnings about the some of the up and down enemies, falling rocks and trash blocks and overall more creativity, some parts of the fortress stages are very irritating without savestates. Also there is a big lack of weapon capsules on the fortress stages, which is a bad thing.

The changed bosses are very clever. I like how they had simple changes that made up for new strategies and rhythm. Too bad only almost half of the bosses had that, but I still give you a thumbs up for that.

The art is great and more unique than his previous hacks, and I really enjoyed them. Nice details such as signs can be found here.

The hack is unique, charming, fresh and definitely deserves a playthrough, just make sure to use some savestates on the fortress stages and keep in mind the lack of weapon energy. You are really getting in there, Ridley X.

Modestly made, yet highly creativeDive Missile2020-02-20Version 1.0

Ridley X has a pretty extensive amount of Mega Man hacks made, yet I haven't really played manyof them for very long. I decided to try this out from interest in how the robot masters were changed, and left feeling very satisfied with how the levels felt. While built mainly from pieced together Mega Man tilesets, they combine to make some very interesting themes. My favorites include the snowy Pharaoah Man stage, the outside portion of Drill Man's stage, and the seaweed growing off the floor in the latter half of Dive Man's stage. The level design is quite challenging at points, but has a satisfying difficulty curve and creative usage of enemies, especially in the castle stages. I was especially charmed by how the Skullmets were used to snipe the player while they dealt with other enemies, made for a great challenge in my opinion. The way Ladder presses were used to make jumping on ladders difficult was also fascinating, and thankfully didn't get too frustrating.

Though, on the topic of frustration, I did find the end of the hack to be that way. Mainly the 2 Wily fights, the 2nd half of Wily Machine 4 was very finicky to actually damage thanks to him losing any weakness to Drill Bomb, though I was admittedly too low on weapon energy to test for any other weaknesses. The Wily Capsule fight was more annoying than anything, his only weakness being the Dust Crusher made it full of waiting around and occasional telefragging. Aside from that, this hack is charmingly made with a healthy amount of challenge to keep you invested. A definite recommendation.
