A real masterpieceEluq2021-03-29Version 1.0

This is one of my favorite SMB hacks of all time! The pink palette looks beautiful, the character sprite is really well made and the slower running speed increases the difficulty while also making it more relaxing somehow. Probably because you are going as fast as the game allows, which is absolutely required to pass the levels, but that maximum speed is slow enough that you can keep running the whole time without needing insane reflexes. Doing that in the original SMB would mean certain death. I've played this a lot, including the second quest. Congratulations for making this hack, I LOVE it.

My favorite part has to be the music, though. It's straight out of the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni visual novels, I recognize all the tracks ("Sora no Mukou" in the ground levels and different parts of "You" divided between the castle and water levels). I find it weird that you don't mention this anywhere in the description or the readme, because it would certainly appeal to fans of the series that might otherwise ignore this hack. I only found out because I downloaded this on a whim!

Interesting Idea, Some FlawsShauing2020-03-12Version 1.0

Girl Dream-Topia has a pretty interesting take on SMB1 game-play wise by making your running ability pretty much disabled (it is there, but reduced to next-to-nothing), and the levels are designed around this.

This is a more patient-pace hack, where you have to take your time, watch what's on the screen and move/jump accordingly. It is tight but not pixel perfect/only-one-way either. The game is pretty forgiving as well by giving you lots of lives and easy-to-find lives as well, plus a more real-time timer.

I like the idea of a different character and a different looking-world though I have my issues with how it is represented here. Most of the levels are monochromatic heavy, either pink or gray, the worse of these is in the water levels, where I had to change of palette emulation in order to differentiate the background and foreground, which otherwise looked like it had the same colors. Yes, the palette is limited, but the original SMB1 is pretty colorful and diverse despite this. Also, if this is a new world, why just change Mario, Toad and the Princess; why not the enemies and the world itself?

The music, sounds somewhat empty, with a lack of harmonic phrases/accompaniment, plus they're too short; they're not bad but feel uninspiring and perhaps might bore after a while. There's still SMB jingles which I don't understand why they weren't replaced.

The game is mostly stable bug-wise, though Koopa's tend to have their original palette restored instead of the monochromatic one, and it is possible at times to clip through blocks.

Overall, it is an interesting gameplay idea but the rest needs fine-tuning. I can recommend play it, but you have to play it by its pace/rules. Otherwise, you'll drop it by the second level.

Looks and sounds good but gameplay hindered by ambitious handicaphdofu2020-03-11Version 1.0

When I first started the game I loved the look of the sprites especially the intricate details in the background graphics. The midi used for the music I especially thought was done well. But immediately after that I became aware of a change when I tried to start running, at first I thought I must have his the wrong button mapped for the b button but soon I became too aware... the programmer disabled running. Partway through the first level it started to show the gimmick that would make this colorful cute hack and make it into an unforgiving unfun nightmare of precision jumps. The first level was doable then the upcoming level became less forgiving with its double falling platform jumps. I gave up at that point as not being able to run and having these forced precision jumps made this feel like something other then Super Mario Bros, as jumping in Super Mario Bros always left you feeling in control of your next action, here it felt like leaps of faith and save states were mandatory unless you have completely mastered playing Super Mario Bros without running. Don't play this one unless you really want a Super Mario Bros game that forces you to walk.

I loved this hackVallenatero20152020-03-09Version 1.0

Although it may be an even harder hack of Super Mario Bros., I loved the graphics, and the music, not to mention; It is harmonious. Therefore, I recommend it.
