Hack description

When a sacred item is stolen from Hayabusa Village by a rival clan, Ryu Hayabusa must set out on a journey to retrieve it. Set before the events of the first Ninja Gaiden on the NES, this game makes a nice addition to the original trilogy.

8-Bit Love for the Xbox Crew!MetalSmasher862020-05-26Version 1.0

Let me start by saying this hack does what I believe every good complete ROM hack should do which is give a fresh challenge to players who have mastered the base game without going overboard with it. This hack basically warns you of this in the first level by throwing those vicious birds at you right out of the gate (they didn't show up until level 3 in the base game), and basically making you fight one of the final bosses from the base game as the very first boss fight.

But then this hack also does something that I hoped someone would do in a Ninja Gaiden NES hack for a while now, which is incorporate one of the new player characters from the Xbox/Playstation trilogy in the classic 8-bit style. In two of the levels you can play as the young purple-clad kunoichi Ayane. Even if it's only for two levels, and even though she doesn't play any different from Ryu, this is still a very nice touch. Still holding out hope for an 8-bit Rachel hack sometime...

Just another mediocre reskinSorinkun2020-04-05Version 1.0

This is just another reskin of ninja gaiden, the player have no new mechanics whatsoever, the enemies are boring reskins, even the bosses behave the same way as the ones from original ninja gaiden did, most of their graphics is copy paste from other ninja gaiden games and hacks nothing original, no damage points change, no new weapons, nothing new in the gameplay, not to mention the enemies are still respawning like in the original but in there is more painful because the levels forces you to kill the same enemy over and over, pressing select to switch your weapon like in Deadpool, that would helped. The cutscenes are worse, look at Ayane, does his face really looks like Ayane, I doubt that, also what's with the story line, a ninja pops up out of nowhere and gives Ryu the heads up, "Hey dude I'm gonna steal that ancient scroll from your village. I'm a member of the green clan in case you need any information to track me down. Now that I've told you my plan I have to go." I mean what kinda of ninja thief is that? And after you defeat that green ninja suddenly he wants to help you and tells you where the scroll is, I though he wanted to kill you! One more thing I want to mention in the end, did anyone noticed that the first boss and the final boss have exactly the same AI, only the graphics are changed and the layout of the level to make the fight somewhat different, I mean how can you do that? This really proves how much time and effort went into this.
