Reviews
| Way more features than advertised | Haz | 2021-09-18 | Version 2.0 |
Nothing much to say on this hack really, it's fantastic. Removes all of the old n64 jank and allows the 64 version of MM to stand alongside the 3DS version (with the Restoration mod of course). Something I think new players should be aware of, though, is that when using Patcher64+ the amount of features here far exceed what the RHDN page entails. I want to list some of the major additions so that you can make an informed choice on whether you want to play this or the modded 3DS version.
It's all fantastic work, never touch the original version ever again.
| And just like that it surpasses the 3DS version | PurePixels | 2020-06-06 | Version 1.1 |
One thing I liked about Majora's Mask 3D is that it was mechanically far better than the somewhat clunky original MM. I never had a big problem with the various controversial changes, but changes they were nonetheless. This hack vastly improves MM's interface especially by adding additional permanent buttons for the frequently used masks and ocarina. Now you can enjoy the original Majora's Mask but with massively improved inventory management. Great work!
| Main Issues of MM Fixed and then some | ClaudeDixon | 2020-06-04 | Version 1.1 |
Majora's Mask has always been pretty tedious and annoying when it comes to item management, in which you're typically keeping the 3 slots reserved for the 3 transformation masks AND the ocarina, which means not enough room for actual combat/puzzle items like arrows and hookshot. This simple remapping of the masks and ocarina to dpad controls is a total game changer and the game has never been more fun. Other QoL tweaks like the Zora's transformation water instrument being, you know, usable underwater, or maps you buy from Tingle now being permanent are also appreciated (seriously, at least the minimap should've been a basic feature from the get go, strange how it was not only locked behind an in-game pay wall but you lost it every time you saved and reset the game.) One odd change I found so far was the trade sequence items no longer being technical "trade" items (after "trading" an item, you still keep said item and can switch back to it despite it now being useless for the sidequest.) Not something that takes away from the hack or casualizes the difficulty by any means, just something I noticed and was puzzled by.
| L BUTTON TOGGLES MAP. | wiiluvglover64 | 2020-05-18 | Version 1.1 |
You can toggle the map on and off with the L button. The original game had L or up dpad for map, L button still works. The improvements in Majora's Mask Redux make the game alot more pleasant. The mask and arrow toggles are fantastic. The original majora's mask is a downgrade in fairness and accessibility compared to what ocarina was. It is such a treat and a privilege to have a redux version to ease some of the frustration. Here are some ideas on what would make majora's mask even better: Keeping all inventory items after travelling back in time. It's especially annoying to lose your beans and have to go to the bean seller. Include a save anywhere system from ocarina of time, instead or in addition to the default save system. The two patch options to choose Dpad display on left or right side of the screen is awesome. Having it near the top of screen between the magic meter and c buttons would look good too. Losing skultulas and dungeon fairies when traveling back in time sucks. Saving these and other items would be so much better. Running out of time in a dungeon and losing dungeon progress from travelling back in time is not fun. One solution is having time move in the overworld but paused inside the dungeons Have 3 functions for the inverted song of time: 1. slow time 2. stop time completely 3. rewind time. Have some kind of flashing indicator on the clock or ocarina dpad symbol to remind the player that time has either slowed or stopped so they don't forget to reactivate time. To avoid waiting around for bombers notebook events to happen the song of double time could be used to choose a specific hour to travel forward to, just like in 3ds version. If you miss an event, use the inverted song of time to rewind back to that event. extra bottles would be great. The angry videogame nerd was very accurate in his criticism of the original majora's mask https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VYpryVA5WQQ. If most of the problems he talks about were fixed, then majoras mask would truly rival or surpass Ocarina as the best n64 zelda game. I am so glad that Maroc and everyone who worked on this dedicated the time and effort to create majoras mask redux and make it publicly available. Thank you so much.

| Much needed hacks for this game | MattKimura | 2020-05-06 | Version 1.0 |
It's great to finally see an improvement hack for Majora's Mask, something that has never been done before. Taking the quality of life features from the randomizer and adding them to the base game. It makes for a much better experience and I look forward to more hacks from this project in the future. It's so dang great being able to equip masks instantly with the DPAD without having to set it to a C button first. Same for the ocarina, it's much easier to pull out now. Having more space on the c buttons is game changing for me, less time spent equipping items.Topped with faster block pushing, it's these little changes that make pretty big differences. Thanks for the awesome hack!
