Hack description

This is for anyone who wants to switch out any of the music tracks to ones liking for the TurboGrafx-16 CD release with the ones in the later Sega CD version. All tracks have been volume and length adjusted to make an exact match with the original TG16 tracks.

Both soundtracks have their own merits, the TG16 version has some tighter playing in certain spots but harsh low-quality recordings, while the Sega CD version had each track completely rerecorded.

The songs are replaced based on where they appear originally in the TG16 version, not the song names as this is different for both versions.

Already included in this pack is the restored version for the track Azual.

A PERFECT IMPROVEMENT!!!Adam Catalyst2023-07-06Version 1.0

The original game had the soundtrack mixed very low behind the sound effects, with a thin sound drowned out by everything else. The Sega CD release re-recorded the soundtrack, and mixed it extremely loud, with the game sound effects mixed to sound incredibly thin, to the point of barely being audible. THIS hack provides a match made in heaven... coupling the louder Sega CD soundtrack with the effects in the PCE CD version, the mix finally sounds perfect. The soundtrack is heavy and thick without being overpowering, and the effects will punch through with some weight. The only possible thing missing is the shop-keepers lovely voice-acting, but that's really splitting hairs. I highly recommend playing the PCE version this way!

A Welcomed Change!ChaddyBones2022-10-10Version 1.0

As someone who experienced the SCD version before the TG16-CD version, I generally prefer the SCD soundtrack.

As mentioned in the description, both versions have their strongpoints, but the SCD versions has the advantage of better overall sound quality (in my opinion) due to being completely re-recorded (TG16-CD games often suffer from low-quality audio tracks). That being said, both soundtracks are totally worth hearing and so guess it all comes down to preference in the end.

  • It's worth pointing out that the opening track gets cut off before the narrator (new to the SCD soundtrack) can finish his dialogue at the end. This is the result of the opening cutscene ending before the entire track can finish playing (even in the original TG16-CD version). Since both tracks are essentially the same length, adjusting the track tempo slightly would have been a decent workaround to correct this issue.*
