Hack description

1-3-2021 UPDATE: The .zip file for this hack contains three .ips files: the Final Shell Shock patch being playable on all hardware and in all emulators, with each of the respective Re-Shelled patches allowing players a better sound experience when using the Terraonion MegaSD cartridge (for MD+ sound) or Mega Everdrive cartridge (for MSU-MD sound).

Patch ONLY ONE of the .ips files to your original SoR2 rom, depending on what emulator/system you intend to use.

Originally released on 5/24/2020, eskayelle's ultimate vision comes to fruition with this final set of mods in the TMNT of Rage series.

On an alternate timeline in an alternate universe, Mr. X and the Syndicate have fallen at the hands of those radical reptiles, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Furious with his latest failure to control the city, X enlists one Oroku Saki to capture the fearsome foursome's greatest ally, April O'Neil.

Rage in their hearts and pizza in their bellies, the turtles jump into action, dead set on putting an end to Mr. X's tyranny once and for all... and punish the Shredder for being complicit in the Syndicate's nefarious misdeeds as well.

A direct descendant of eskayelle's TMNT of Rage hack and its TMNT Remix successor, this mod adds the following to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles of Rage experience:

And... those fantastic features from the previous mods in the series continue to kick shell:

The best Streets of Rage hack ever madeSupergamerguy2021-07-08Version 1.999.1

I have never seen a SoR2 roster hack with as much effort and polish put into it like this. I'm not even a fan of the TMNT TV show or the movies (having only played TMNT Arcade, Turtles in Time, and Manhattan Project), and yet this is easily my favorite SoR2 hack to date. Each turtle has their own unique moveset and are all faster than the original Streets of Rage characters, which makes this hack a completely new experience. All 4 turtles feel fluid to control, with some of the new moves being even more useful in battle (more damage and more defensive moves overall). Coupled with the new bosses and sound clips, this hack goes above and beyond my expectations from what I thought was a simple sprite swap initially. My only real issue is that the game is set to "Hard Mode" by default, which means more enemies flooding the screen at a time. This could be problematic for new players, even if they had some experience with the original game. (I also would have liked to see the Bare Knuckle cabinets changed to look like one of the TMNT arcade games, but that's just a nitpick.) Overall, this is a fantastic effort by the developers, and delivers on everything it promises.

Great and fun mod!MortalPeko2021-02-28Version 1.999.1

The TMNT characters translate quite effectively in this TMNT of Rage mod.

I really like how it feels more closer to a Konami TMNT game rather than a reskinned Streets of Rage 2 mod. Running adds more speed to the pacing. I always preferred the manual running method in TMNT Hyperstone Heist to the auto-run in Turtles in Time personally. This mod feels closer to that for me.

Air juggles make corner combos fun. The boss swaps are also great. It's nice to have Shredder, Bebop, and Rocksteady on board to fight against.

Nothing interesting1HomoErectus12020-12-26Version 1.999.1

Nothing interesting. The colors are bad. The sprites are raw, badly transferred. But the hack would be ok, if it changed something in gameplay, but it is only sprites-hack with minor-minor changes in mechanics.

Very nice updated TMNT SoR2 hack.NoMoneyRanger2020-08-21Version 1.999

I've played some of the TMNT hacks for SoR2 before, but this one appears to be the most complete and fun by far.

Shredder was a good boss addition in the previous update, but including Rocksteady and finally Bebop gives the game a better TMNT feel. They offer good and challenging fights, but it's even better when playing in Mania. Foot Soldiers would be nice, but I personally prefer the visual variety the SoR2 enemies already have to offer.

The Turtles control and play with more ease and response, but one thing I noticed was Raph's charged normal/B attack doesn't hit on contact. The others work, but just not Raph's.

Other than that, I highly recommend it!

Love this Concept, Great Hack but..Greenhawk842020-06-28Version 1.999

Hello! I love this hack, it's a very great idea since I am a longtime SOR and TMNT beat 'em up fan. I think this could use a little more variation in common enemies but I do not mind the turtles beating up common street thugs because they also did that. I would also enjoy to see maybe a couple more playable characters like Casey Jones and Master Splinter but that's a high hope, not that I wouldn't play this anyway. I think having this as just a novelty game and a "different flavor" of SOR2 is a nice way to look at it. Very fun, keep up the great work!

Feels like an ongoing betaPleiades72020-06-13Version 1.999

Because so many SOR2 hacks are out there, and now that we have SOR4, there is a bit of fatigue for something that fails to take it to the next level.

This really just needed one more thing. It needed a foot clan soldier as a common enemy, which in the forum the author said was possible but he didn't want to do because he was tired of working on this.

Without at least one other thing to tie in TMNT this is just same old boring monotonous SO2 with occasional TMNT moments. By giving us pizza (nice touch!) and Bee Bop and Rock Steady (awesome!) and a proper ending (great!) then the problem is now is feels like a bonafide TMNT crossover game without enough TMNT stuff. Imagine "Battletoads Double Dragon - Ultimate team" but with just Battletoad characters slapped into Double Dragon 1.

TL:DR version- the novelty wears off quickly. So I'm ok with the SOR2 Ultra version of this that expands the moves and introduces quality of life stuff as my go to SOR2 hack

But that said.... if this gets an update to this hack (*hint* *hint) and we get that foot clan soldier as a common enemy to connect this (which is really all we need) then I would change my review to a resounding yes! Do it before someone else does and takes the credit ;)

Happy gaming!

Still Needs a few Touches...WebSlinger2020-06-11Version 1.999

I see the food are still normal, and should be like Pizza slices and boxes. The knives are rendered useless, I'm thinking maybe they can become something else although a few bosses use 'em. hm... Also no matter how many times I patch this, there is NO audio/music, just the SFX. Other than that, the rom hack is pretty damn awesome!

This feels like a long lost TMNT game.Chronosplit2020-05-31Version 1.999

I've been wanting to see what all the hoopla was about with TMNT of Rage, and now I see why. Everything just feels so seamless for the most part, almost as if the turtles were always in the game. It's clear that these patches that add on top of each other all accumulated into something that truly justifies all the work involved.

Only one nitpicky thing reamains: the "road turkey" is still there wishing it was a pizza box because the "road apple" was changed to a slice. I have no issue with this at all, but it tells you just how deep in the bottom of the barrel I need to scratch to find something to criticize.
