Hack description

This patch is a color correction. The goal is to resemble colors in the anime adaptation.

Some changes:

New colors for almost every character and their alts (only Freezer is untouched). Most notably:
-All human/saiyan skin tones, from the original orange to a more natural one.
-Goku and Krillin uniform is now redish instead of orange.
-Piccoro now has a blue belt, and the things in the arms are now pink instead of orange/brown (as a result, the shoes as well, they share palette entries)
-Vegeta's uniform, from the bright light blue to a darker blue.
-Cell saturation is adjusted down.
-Rikum and Ginyu uniforms are changed to match the anime

New colors for some scenarios:
-Coast: new colors to match the anime
-Namek: new colors to match the anime
-Budokai Tenkaichi arena: New colors replacing the original yellowish tone.
-Time Chamber: tonal correction, the whole BG is more white. Sand in the clocks in now green to match the anime.
-Beach: blue water
-Highway: the road has a lighter tone

There are many more minor corrections.

It was hard to decide whether or not to recommend this hack. Anyone who played this game probably felt that a better use of color might be possible.

The problem with this hack is that it presents some changes for the better, some for the worse, and some that represent neither an improvement nor a worsening.

Interestingly, when you compare the original and the hack, you can better understand the problems developers face by having only 64 colors on the screen: They seem to have sacrificed anime fidelity to show a more balanced palette. On the other side, the hack sometimes feels weird. It took me a while to get used to Goku (too much contrast between the darker uniform and the lighter skin tone). In Krillin's case the contrast is even more striking, and Piccolo... sorry dude, but he looks awful. Cell, on the other hand, I think it looks better. In the rest of the characters there's no improvement despite the changes. There's no harmony either, some seem very bright (A-18), others dark (Krillin).

The work on the color of the backgrounds is quite better in general, although once again, in some the changes are not better, and the stage with the sea and the rocks in the background looks horrendous with those blue colors.

Another negative aspect is that the colors in the portraits and intro have not been modified, which causes even more contrast.

In the current state, sorry I can't recommend this hack. It feels uncompleted and with a lot of room for improvement, but I encourage the author to keep working, because (I insist) in this game it feels that better use can be made of color.

And of course, this is just my opinion. If anyone has doubts I encourage to find out for yourselves if this hack is worth it.
