This hack truly is the best way to play this game. Before, players had to deal with clunky mechanics that forced you to orient yourself to a certain direction just to be able to deliver one of two attacks. This hack makes Double Dragon 2 the game it should have been by assigning an attack to each button and removing the unneeded logic involved with trying to simply defend yourself in game. Thanks so much to the hack author for perfecting this game and turning it into a fully playable and beatable experience!
| Absolutely brilliant! | cospefogo | 2020-09-15 | Version 1.0 |
The hack/fix is awesome! Absolutely recommended! This is how the game should ever been created in the first place. You have one button for punching and other for kicking... FORWARD. As soon as you patch your rom you will never want to go back again. It's a pity the original Arcade version work in the same way as the original NES/Famicom one... unplayable for me!
| I'm not as excited as others... | Spooniest | 2020-09-12 | Version 1.0 |
I've been training myself to do a No Miss Run of Double Dragon 2 for about 4 years now. I'll explain what that means to anyone who isn't familiar; it means I get through the entire game without losing a life. I can lose as much health as I want (generally speaking), so long as I never lose a life. I've been playing Double Dragon 2 since it came out and I needed something to spice it up for me. I've recently done my first 3-in-a-row streak of No Miss runs, and I found this patch here today. I tried playing through it... Look. It does what it says it does, and beautifully, too. It unifies Punch and Kick to one button each, you never have to worry about them changing depending on which way you are facing, and your character will never turn around after knocking someone down with Kicks. However; for someone who has played this game ad nauseum the way I have (that's Latin for "until I'm sick of it"), my muscle memory managed to screw me over pretty badly while playing this. If you've never been into The Revenge because the control scheme got on your nerves, you'll probably adore this. If you've been seriously playing DD2 for a very long time, and your muscles are used to the original, if wonky, controls, you're gonna have a bad time. I am recommending it... just with that caveat.

I played through the first level and I gotta say the author made the perfect hack to this classic. The controls feel authentic and smooth, and this is THE hack to have in your collection! Great job on the hack, Kaiser_Gun. You did good. :) To everyone else, you owe it to yourself to play this hack. ;)
| Simple Fix that Changes Everything | Chicken Knife | 2020-09-11 | Version 1.0 |
This is probably the most meaningful improvement that the NES version of Double Dragon 2 could possibly get. I loved the game as a kid, and I was willing to deal with the awkward button switching that depends on which direction you are facing. However, I've never been able to revisit the game and enjoy it because I now find the scheme far too frustrating. This patch does what it says and succeeds in creating a more standard and intuitive control system for DD2. Thank you for making this game playable again!
| Forward Kicks! | nesrocks | 2020-09-11 | Version 1.0 |
At first I thought this hack already existed. There already is a hack that changes the buttons around, making a button a punch and the other one the kick, no matter the direction the character is facing. But I missed one big thing in the description. The kick is now executed forwards. This makes the game completely different. Try it!
| Can't Ever Go Back To The Original | Eldrethor | 2020-09-11 | Version 1.0 |
I'll never understand the weird control scheme that Double Dragon II introduced over the simple but intuitive controls of the first game, and it really is one-of-a-kind. While I get that it's to perhaps provide more control over the direction of your attacks, it makes differentiating between punches and kicks very frustrating. By restoring the controls to how it is in every other game in the series, the game feels smoother than ever, and attacking feels much more intuitive. The only downside is that the game is subtly easier with that higher degree of control, but I don't see how anyone could go back to the way things were after a taste of that. Absolutely recommended.
