A really good hack with a few issuesbrownjacket2021-03-04Version 1.1

I haven't finished playing through this hack and I'm in no way a Metroid fanatic, but IMO this hack greatly improves on the NES classic. With the addition of the crouching mechanic, I feel less inclined to play the original NES game. The sprite for Samus is the best original sprite I have seen in any Metroid hack. The only issue I have is that it lags at some points of the game, especially when there's a handful of enemies on the screen. The other thing I wish worked (but isn't necessary) is if this hack was compatible with other ROM hacks like the "Saving + Map" Metroid Rom Hack. Other than that, this hack is impressive.

Very good for a first hackYodaMorpheus72020-11-12Version 1.1

Just so you know, I typically use rewind when I play hacks.

This was very good for a first hack. Even before I read the description I thought of the Super Metroid intro sequence, and even though I'm not exactly sure what about the physics was changed, the game seems to handle better than vanilla.

I really liked the Samus art. The larger proportions on her almost never caused any issues with navigation, which I think is at least a little impressive. The boss art was also very good, and the Ridley fight overhaul made it leagues better than the original Metroid.

That being said, there was one sticking point. The Mother Brain fight was aggravated by Samus' larger size, making it a lot harder to dodge rinkas. I also would have appreciated a little bit of that new art style with MB as well, but that's a very small thing and I can understand if the hacker liked the original already.

All in all, this was a lot of fun to play and the changes made the game a lot less tedious, especially with the new beam combo system from newer titles, which made it so I didn't have to go back for ice after I got the far superior wave. The ending art was also pretty cool. This hack is a definite yes (at the very least up until MB), and I hope that the creator goes on to do more stuff.

Fixes some issues, creates othersgravitygoesup12020-10-14Version 1.0a

Tentative yes on this one. The Samus sprite looks great and makes running through the hallways really fun. The new boss designs and movement patterns are great, and I really enjoyed the Ridley fight!

Then I got to Tourian, and I was pretty disappointed. I tried to go through thinking I could farm Metroids, but what do you know, the metroids don't drop anything. So I just kept pushing on and then I got to the Mother Brain corridor. Everything that makes this room annoying in vanilla is accentuated and made worse in this version. The game lags even worse than in vanilla and there is hardly any room to move or jump in between zebetites. Not only that, but the hitboxes on the zebetites are pretty bad. I didn't make it to mother brain, and I wasn't willing to farm 400 health and 200 missiles just to give it another go.

Also, if Samus's sprite was upgraded and the bosses revamped, why wasn't there any thought put into something as simple as giving the player max health when they die? That seems like something simple to do.

So make the metroids drop health and missiles, max health after death, and make the mother brain room not a complete cluster-f.

7.5/10
