I'm a fan of holiday-themed hacks, whether they be complete overhauls, short new games, or graphical-only. Pac-Man Halloween Edition is the latter, and it gives the title-screen and mazes a Halloweenish palette, changes the bonus items into Halloween-related trinkets, and redraws the ghosts to resemble traditional Halloween sheet-ghosts. Though Pac-Man Halloween Edition does not alter the gameplay, the way that it changes the four ghosts does end up having a knock-on effect: Because they all now look identical to each other, it's trickier to tell at a glance which ghost is which. This ends up giving the game a slightly different feel, which was welcome. It would be nice if the title-screen had some "Halloween Edition" text added to it, so as to more easily differentiate it from the standard release and to give it some additional polish. Due to its inclusion of ghosts, I often play Pac-Man at Halloween, and this hack will definitely be my go-to for that this year! Pac-Man Halloween Edition is definitely one to pick up if you enjoy holiday-themed graphics hacks. I tested this game in the versions of RetroPie for both the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B and the Raspberry Pi Zero W, and it worked as it should with both. | |||
