| An excellent patch | ilya_indigo | 2022-04-23 | Version 1.0 |
An excellent patch that makes this game much easier to control! The controls become much more comfortable than the default and more convenient and intuitive than in the MIJET patch. With this patch the game is how it should have been originally!
| May need quite a bit of practice | ducknukam | 2021-05-30 | Version 1.0 |
I gave it a shot, but I'm pretty used to the original so I found myself failing more than usual in some of the precision jumps. If you are used to the original controls then the new controls take a lot of practice and can even be counter-intuitive at times. On the other hand, newcomers might just find this the perfect fit. Note that if you're going to play this through an emulator, it may crash easily. Kega Fusion works well it seems, but I've experienced repeatable freezes in Genesis Plus GX and Pico Drive just by quickly pressing up, down, up, down.
| There is nothing wrong with Landstalker controls played on original hardeware | NiggelMyNiggel | 2021-03-17 | Version 1.0 |
I've played through Landstalker 3 times. It's one of my favorite games. Today I popped it in to play through it again. I was troubled to find that the controls handled like shit. The controls never bothered me before. I have seen reviews online where people gripe about the controls and I think I have figured out why You see, I've always played this game on original hardware and had no problems with the isometric controls however today I tried playing it on the MiSTer with a Hori fighting comander pad...and it controls terrible with the hori pad on MiSTer. I have a component switcher so I did a test running Landstalker to three different setups simultaneously. I ran Landstalker with an emulator (with the controls patch) and the hori pad. I also ran Landstalker vanilla with MiSTer and the same hori pad. And lastly I ran Landstalker vanilla original hardware. I came to the conclusion that the game controls poorly with the vanilla rom and a usb game pad. It's not the emulation that is the problem or the game itself and the patch doesn't help. The patch just makes it handle poorly in a different way. Landstalker doesn't handle well on anything but a Sega Genesis controller. I could go on and on but I feel like this review is already long and no one probably cares about Landstalker anymore. Sadly, I think no one cares about Landstalker because they think it controls poorly. This is because most people don't game on original hardware. I'm not saying this to be elitist about original hardware. I rarely game on original hardeware anymore. I can't recommend this patch. I feel that you would be much better off playing it on original hardware. If this is not an option than I would recommend trying to find a way to plug an original Genesis controller into your emulatuon setup however I have not actually tried this myself.
| Huge Improvement in Controls! | redhotiron2004 | 2021-01-23 | Version 1.0 |
I have no idea why the game developers thought it was a good idea to change controls to diagonals instead of the standard Dpad. Without this patch, it is quite frustrating to control the main character in this isometric game. I am using a Sony PS3 dual shock controller on retropie and the improvement in controls is just outstanding especially for the platforming stages. This is a mandatory patch if you truly want to enjoy this game.
