Insanely difficulthmsong2023-06-10Version 1.02

First of all, I can tell that the creator put lots of heart into this hack. Lots of new mechanics, AI behavior, different effects, weapons, level design, etc. Honestly, I can see why some people would like it.

But not me. The difficulty is too insane. Do you know why all the items are dirt cheap? (ex: a pack of 7 E tanks is only 10 bolts) It's because the game is very difficult, and you're gonna get hit a lot. Enemies drop Extra Life a lot? It's because you'd be dying a lot. There's not much fighting - you're just getting your ass handed, and constantly using E tank to get around gets old really fast. The only way to really get anywhere while defeating enemies is to use Beat (who auto-hits enemies very quickly)... but then you'd be just walking forward while Beat does all the work (using W tank from time to time), and that gets old fast too. Again, not much fighting.

The level design is all over the place. Sure, there are new mechanics, such as snowboards and stuff, but the stage "theme" isn't quite there. For example, in Freeze Man's stage, why are there so many wheel enemies? (from the original Turbo Man's stage)

Having said that, the boss fights are great. They are insanely difficult too, but not in a bad way. At least for the 8 Robot Masters. But after that, the bosses just get stupid hard (in a bad way). It's completely ridiculous.

Unless you have lightning reflex or something, I strongly advice you to avoid this. This is not for casual players. I did not enjoy this.

Rockman 7 EP - The only one (at the moment)diablo6662021-12-25Version 1.02

Clearly, the author was inspired by HIS PAST PROJECT. For there are such notes here.

There are three endings in the hack: "Economic Power", "Expert Player", "Everlasting Punishment". What is their meaning? In the first: "Complete the game using the E-tank"; In the second: "No deaths and no E-tank" ; In the third: "Lose to the FINAL BOSS HIMSELF" (The third ending is physically and mentally difficult)

In any other hacks I've played - I have NOT seen that there were DIFFERENT endings. This is a huge plus

Achievements in the game are secondary, which the author introduced.

What do we see in the hack?

  • 1. Bosses have become more difficult, more cunning and more interesting
  • 2. All Mini Bosses have been changed in a new way
  • 3. The introduction of "special cutscenes" or "Tests" inside the levels (as in MM7 or MM8)
  • 4. The behavior of enemies and the environment in the game have been completely changed.
  • 5. Introduction of new (or familiar from other games) Features
  • 6. Side quests, A NEW location and ANOTHER, DIFFERENT FINAL TRICKY BOSS !
  • 7. For small things: Abilities, shop, dialogues and "survival in the arena with a crowd of enemies".

The first of its kind... hack on MM7 (RM7), without changing the music, without changing the graphical part of the game, BUT IT CAN ATTRACT AND BRING BACK THOSE who have played this hack before.

I recommend it to anyone who wants a new or other good feeling.

P.S Someone finally made a Translation of this hack. Therefore, combine this hack with the translation and you will easily understand the plot in the hack

Almost as good as Rockman 4 Minus Infinity, but has some difficulty issuesSupergamerguy2021-12-24Version 1.02

I'd like to start off by saying that I love this hack. Just like Puresabe's previous work, Rockman 4: Minus Infinity, it completely redesigns the existing levels to take advantage of entirely new themes and level elements. Most of this feels organic and fitting for Mega Man's abilities. Water where you can move freely throughout in Burst Man's stage, getting to ride a Truck Joe's vehicle in Turbo Man's stage, Donkey-Kong-Country-styled thorny mazes and Mega-Man-9-styled zero-gravity hot springs in Spring Man's stage, Gradius-styled fire hazards in Junk Man's stage, and more! Plus, the new Robot Master fights are a lot of fun, and the new patterns feel right at home in the Mega Man series.

However, this hack isn't perfect. I personally hate that the Mega Man 8 snowboarding sections were incorporated into this hack, and, while it isn't *as* punishing as it is in its source material, that section in Freeze Man's stage is just as *unenjoyable* as the snowboarding in Mega Man 8. But the real issues come from the Wily stages. The difficulty spike here is massive, especially if you don't have the Ultimate Armor (I've forgotten its official name in this hack), which costs 999 bolts to obtain (there's no other way to get it). And the enemy gauntlet before Bass (the true final boss) is just a slog, there's no other way to put it. Yes, Rush, Eddie, Beat, and Auto come in to help you, but the gauntlet just seems like another way to sap your health and pad out the game's runtime.

But no other part of the game is worse than the WILY FIGHT. Puresabe apparently took the complaints about Mega Man 7's difficult final fight against Wily to heart and made it nigh impossible. The first phase isn't too bad, but the second phase is extremely hard to hit without the Ultimate Armor. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, compares to what the third phase is like though. It's quite literally the definition of the words "unfair" and "brutal." You have to have quick reflexes, a turbo setting for your controller or the power of button spam, and RNG on your side to beat Wily. Just watch a video of the final fight to see what I mean. Bass pales in comparison to this third phase, if you even manage to get there.

Despite all this, I still enjoyed the majority of this game. I would recommend this to any Mega Man fan, given that you have enough experience in the genre to tackle tough challenges.

An amazing overhaul of a classic!Sosuko2021-10-16Version 1.02

Note: Played with the English patch available on this site

Wow, I'm blown away by this hack. Even though I've played several of Puresabe's intricate "boss fight" hacks, this one just takes all that complexity and innovation to a new level. Though the base mechanics of this game remain the same, nearly everything else from the weapons to the items, to the enemies and bosses has been overhauled improved. To be honest, I think it's best to go into this one blind in order to be pleasantly surprised by all the crazy stuff that happens in this hack, so I won't go into too much detail here, just a few bullets.

Pros:

-Varied and interesting weapons. All have unique properties or traits that make them far more interesting to use outside the actual boss fights (e.g. slash claw can crit if you tipper people like Marth in SSB)

-Amazing miniboss and boss fights. Each level has both and several have entirely unique mechanics involved in their fight. Bosses also have much more complex patterns than the original game and are not susceptible to weaknesses in the same way as before (i.e. getting stunlocked by their weakness)

-Outrageous level sections. Seriously, I don't want to spoil this one, but several levels have amazing sections in them that are an absolute blast. Kinda similar to how Megaman 8 had the shooter section in Tenguman's stage, but ramped up to the next level

-(Mostly) Great dialogue. Though I played with the translation patch, the story and dialogue here is surprisingly good for a Megaman game. There is a lot of reference-based humor and other clever lines that actually had me pretty engaged in what was going on

-Replay value. There are several in-game achievements available for those who really like a challenge and are looking for an excuse to play this awesome game again

Cons

-Broken weapons. Some weapons are definitely more useful than others and will absolutely tear through enemies and bosses alike. Still, it's nothing as bad as Metal Blade in Megaman 2, and every weapon does at least have some use

Imaginative, but too much forced scrollingRendood2021-06-24Version 1.01

Made by the creator of Minus Infinity, which is probably the greatest Mega Man ROM hack out there, EP isn't nearly as good, but still super crazy and imaginative.

Like Minus Infinity, EP changes the weapons, level design and boss patterns completely. It's hard to include elements from other Mega Man titles in 7 because of the 16-bit art style and all, but the hacker did what he could with the OG assets. EP also has some clever homages to Castlevania, Gradius and even DKC2.

And again like Minus Infinity, EP is fairly brute-forceable. It does have some chaotic enemy placements, and the boss patterns can be tough, but this hack showers you with E-Tanks and health refills, and you're equipped with a bunch of pit rescue items by default, to the point where most of the game almost feels mindless.

Not surprisingly, the weapons are amazing. Turbo Man's power ignites Mega Man and makes you 100% invulnerable to all damage except projectiles, causing other interesting effects too like constant damage to everything underwater (like it's boiling the water! Pretty cool). Shade Man's weapon is an even bigger, spammable Noise Crush that looks like Ripple from the Gradius series, and what do you know, there's a full Rush Jet shmup stage where this weapon shines.

Speaking of, the main problem with this game, which may be a product of MM7 hacking still being new, is the exaggerated number of autoscrollers. Practically every stage has one, with the castle being the worst offender, being made almost entirely of forced scrolling. They're still varied and interesting to discover, but not very replayable.

Probably also as a result of MM7 hacking being new, there aren't many secrets here or unlockables. Looking forward to updated versions of EP and other elaborate MM7 hacks now that the mod tools for this game are out.

Cool game.

It's all fun and games till the Wily StagesSnufflepus Penguin2021-04-17Version 1.01

Mega Man 7 EP is a decent romhack.

I really liked some of the changes to the game, and I think a lot of the robot master stages are quite fun to play.

I loved the callback to the Hot Dogs from MM2 as minibosses, or the creative uses of mechanics throughout the stages. Boss fights are pretty fun, but weaknesses are not the same as the original. I missed things like where hitting Spring Man with the Electric Spark would make him immune and do a special move on you !

I really liked the Castlevania type feel of Shade Man's stages, such as shooting down the torches for weapon energy. Some crap weapons from MM7 were greatly improved like Cloud Man's weapon, but things like Freeze Man's weapon drain way too fast. Junk shield is not as good, either. Turbo Man's weapon is broken, making you immune to essentially all non-projectile damage, which is a must in some stages.

I don't like how some set pieces act differently, despite having the same sprite. There is also an extremely heavy reliance on vehicle type stage areas that aren't what the Blue Bomber was designed for. Enemies can get really spammy as well, and the sheer number of E Tanks you get make it more of a run through everything while healing up to full most of the time.

The Wily stages are horrendous. Spamming vehicle stages, endless hordes of enemies, crappy stage trials are mostly what you'll find here. Wily Capsule is utter garbage with poor depth perception, a very difficult to understand 2nd phase and how he can overflow you with weapon energy just to instant-kill you. No wonder why Mega Man attempted to shoot Wily.

In my opinion, play the Robot Master stages, they can be quite fun. But when you get to the Wily stages, expect boring, tedious gameplay with ridiculous time type trials and environmental gimmicks that have no place in a Mega Man game.

It gives Mega Man 7 a second lifeAceearly19932020-12-09Version 1.01

I'd never know the author would be the same person(s) who made Rockman 4 MI, until scrolling down at the author's home page. This hack is SUPER creative at almost every single detail of stage and system, in the result metamorphs into a completely new Mega Man game title on its own.

Game difficulty: 9.9/10 Tough, but possible. Keep in mind this game encourages buying as much E tanks as possible and trade hits with minor enemies in order to make progress (to make up for it, the modified shop system now needs only little currency to purchase all consumables) so if in serious crisis, don't hesitate and fast open pause menu, then eat up E tanks to make short works out of troublesome situation.

Creatively: 9.7/10. The game keeps throwing creative battle scenarios - from things mixed with old and new ideas from various Mega Man games, to even borrowing interesting factors from other franchises such as Gradius and Castlevania - to the point that one may believe a modified SNES ROM file with the size of 4m isn't enough to present the author's brainstorms, and even has autoscrollers and shooting stages clearly inspired from Mega Man 8 (!!) If you're curious go and check the modified game yourself, and when you finally beat the modified game by yourself, you won't regret your spent time as you were having a whole new retrospective miracle adventure with love letters to the good old golden times of all 90s sidescrolling action games, not just Mega Man.

Degrees of Polish: 8.9/10. Though this hack/mod is outstandingly good it has a few questionable spots that will frustrate even the veteran Castlevania and Mega Man players a lot; One of the branching paths responsible for storing R - U - S - H plates in Wily 1 requires player to avoid the ever-rising toxic water as much as possible but at about the medium of the path, a mid- boss class mini dinosaur is standing on the only stable platform in the room without the risk of drowning in toxic water; and to make it worse, the mini dinosaur has a considerable amount of HP which make it not possible to pass the specific screen without using two or three E tanks. To make the situation worse, if you die at the dinosaur, the game not only throw you back to the beginning but also won't give you chance to *easily* restore extra lives, (there IS an extra life at the start of toxic water path, but it requires a WAY TOO precise jump (SUB PIXEL-PERFECT) to reach it) make it easily to get stuck in this stage unless you're super lucky to be able to take down that dinosaur in-time and then reach the end of toxic water path without dying. Another frustration factor would be the stage you'd fight Wily Machine & Capsule, both the nonstop gauntlet against 8 main bosses and Wily himself are soul-crushingly hard: 1) not only you need to beat 8 main bosses in a straight gauntlet but checkpoint only register AFTER the 8 main bosses gauntlet - which means if dying at any of 8 main bosses you lost the whole progress... 2) to make it worse, Wily Capsule has a certain instant-death move which is guaranteed instant kill if not finding correct solution of it, and the consumables at Wily Capsule preparation screen won't refresh when you've been defeated by Wily Capsule and ready to try it a second chance, making it possible to run out of lives. Also the robot museum bonus stage has some bad sprite flickering problems and slowdowns which makes up my mediocre first experience of the stage. (I'm wondering: is the real SNES capable to run those complex effects in Wily Capsule fight and Forte/Bass fight in this game?) But in other stages, the degree of polish is acceptable, especially considering the author's effort to make the huge amount of changes to the game system, stage design and scenarios possible. If there's gonna be future update(s) I'd like to see the two frustration factors I mentioned be tweaked to make them less frustrating.

Overall I'd recommend this hack/mod to any Mega Man fan with experience of Rockman 4 MI and other similar hacks in style, they would feel right at home, and it's worth every veteran Mega Man player's trying given the fact all the scenarios are compressed inside a patched SNES game ROM file with the size of only 4m(!!!)

A great hack, but not for novicesParkerMcFly2020-12-04Version 1.01

It's pieces of work like this that make me wish I knew how to hack.

At the end, I had a smile on my face, and I was laughing at how much fun I had.

Mind you, it took me about 30 minutes to actually get into the game - I probably chose the hardest level to start off with and didn't realize I should be popping Energy Tanks like candy.

This is well worth your time to play, albeit, I don't think I'd ever throw it on my SNES Classic, only because it doesn't feel like a game you'd see in the Nintendo library. It doesn't require save states, but it is far more difficult than a typical SNES title.

That being said, once you get the upgraded R-U-S-H adaptor, the game becomes easy mode - almost trivial.

The callbacks to other SNES titles was astounding - it blew my mind. (I wasn't expecting to see a bit of Super Metroid in here! HAHA!)

The only part of this hack that I did not enjoy was the bullet hell level. I've never been good at those, and it really tested my skill to not get hit.

Overall, well worth your time. 9/10!

This is INCREDIBLE!!8.bit.fan2020-11-07Version 1.0

Mega Man is one of my favorite series and I've personally played a slewed of hacks that ranged from perfection to ... well, not so great.

I've breezed through several levels and I can already tell this is a top of the line quality hack. Not only a lot of effort went into this, but it plays darn well! Unlike many other MM hacks, even the ones that are impressively coded, this one does not make the mistake of making it brutally hard.

Everything plays fair, the additions are impressive ranging from the neat little graphical effects to the player's arsenal, and I especially love Shademan's level being modeled after the levels from the first Castlevania game!

The patch does not include a fully translated English version, however, the creator(Puresabe) included instructions on how to translate the game into English for anyone that's up for the task!

All in all, one of the MOST impressive and extremely well made Mega Man hack.

Highly recommended!!

9.5/10

Crazy AwsomenessPethronos2020-11-07Version 1.0

Well, a catastrophic year, but for romhacking.

After DDSTranslation's Goemon translations efforts, Pyron's SF2 Remastered, the non-stop improvements on Queue's SoM Turbo, or the very recent VITALITY by DMantra (among many others), a complete 16bit Rockman hack by the legendary hacker Puresabe is simply the icing on the cake.

All new enemy behaviors, impressive level designs, awesome minibosses, and much, MUCH more... and not the crazy difficulty that characterizes most Puresabe's hacks, turn this Rockman 7 EP in a pure fun experience.

When it gets translated into english and a proper save system ( I'm sure certain hackers could make it possible ;D ), it'll be perfect.

Fun 10/10 Overall 9.9/10

Absolutely BonkersMoltz2020-11-06Version 1.0

This romhack essentially takes every resource the vanilla game offers, gives it a complete makeover, puts said makeover into a blender and then pours it into a deluxe glass for you to drink.

The game's speed is blazing fast, almost every old enemy offers a new AI + introduces some variations, every stage has a miniboss, the vanilla Robot Masters share almost nothing with the ones you'll see here in terms of fights, every special weapon has received a makeover and the amount of stuff you're forced to deal with is simply a thing to behold. (and I'm still leaving stuff unaccounted for!!!)

Luckily, the game gives you a ton (and I mean a ton) of freebies and resources to deal with the madness awaiting here, almost to the point of potentially trivializing the hardest of encounters (which might count as a con, I suppose).

If I had to say anything negative about it, is that you're forced to save through savestates as the password system is currently broken. That, and one of the frog robots once appeared with glitched graphics.

Screenshots simply can't make this romhack justice. If you can, go on and play it. Puresable has done it again.
