| I have fallen madly in love with this hack. | Vallenatero2015 | 2021-11-11 | Version 9.9 |
I fell more in love with the Donkey Kong Country Returns-style status bar version because it's so hack-friendly. It also completely remasters the game in the style of New Super Mario Bros. DS. Therefore, I recommend it.
| Nice SMW hack | YoshiWhite62 | 2021-11-02 | Version 9.9 |
This hack is not perfect. Some of the changes I loved but some I did not. In general, I thought it was one of the best super Mario world hacks I have played. Very ambitious and complete although some may find it disappointing. Recommend it for anyone looking for a different experience from original Super Mario world.
| This hack needs A'LOT of work | Hammer Bro Productions | 2021-08-02 | Version 9.9 |
Rewritten because of how my old review is outdated at this point, since the hack is now at version 9.9 and my review was at 2.0 Levels: in my honest opinion, I would of really liked to see new levels than the original super Mario world levels with ones from other Mario games added in, because if you did make a bunch of new levels that would of made the hack more enjoyable since most people playing Mario world rom hacks have probably played the original super Mario world levels or some from other Mario games and are just trying to find something fresh to play in the same engine as super Mario world but since that wasn't done here it feels kinda boring to play to me at least.. graphics: I'm not exactly a big fan of how this hack looks because of how inconsistent the art style is the sprites for the enemies and Mario feel really out of place this also applies to some of the backgrounds, for example the level for 1-1 just doesn't fit the background itself doesn't look bad but the pre-rendered new super Mario bros Wii U foreground kinda makes it look really bad another thing is that some of the graphics like in the title screen the blue mountains look kinda bad and don't really mesh well with peaches castle and it just makes it look like a badly Photoshopped image while some graphics look squished like the Luigi bush or the foreground with it music: the music choices are fine for the most part but I did find some of it kinda unfitting or questionable like in the castle where you randomly use another song in the middle of the level I would say that try to stay consistent with the music you use in a level So to finish this review the hack is slightly better than last time in its current state it isn't bad but it still needs some work like fixing up the graphics music choices as well as making new levels I'm gonna give this hack a no, due to it still needing some work here and there but it did improve though which I am very proud of so good job on that :)
| Not really an amazing SMW Rom Hack | Retro Master HD | 2021-03-21 | Version 9.9 |
I finally played the whole Hack through quite a few changes were good wasn't too very keen on the music choice though, still a few clash of colours especially at the ending credits where the enemy sprites colours were randomly mashed together which made them look atrocious and Peach's sprite glitched to her original sprite when the Yoshi eggs hatched at the end as well. Also I came across a few errors as well on World 6 and 7, Level 6-2 had no secret exit even though the dot for the level was red so may wanna re-work that or change the colour of the dot also on Wendy's castle one of the mashers are placed in an unfair way which made it hard to get past and led to an unfair death due to the mashers being way too close to each other. Also as for World 7 Level 7-3 and Level 7-4 you may want to switch the colour of the dots round so it doesn't confuse the player and level 7-4 you may want to put a goal tape instead of just a key hole. Other than that the Hack somewhat okayish but not good enough for me to recommend it to anyone and I definitely can't see SMW Central.Net wanting to except a Hack such as this anytime soon but I'll give it a 2/10 but I'm not going to recommend it though. Still needs a lot more work and could do a lot more better. Not trying to sound harsh by the way so please don't think I am.
| Super Mario World : Clash of the Colors | Ligeia | 2020-12-11 | Version 2.2 |
I really like the concept, which is to make a better looking version of SMW and adding some levels to it. But is the execution is not that good. What defines this hack the most in general is a lack of taste. The graphics don't mesh well together, the colors often clash atrociously. The sprites don't mesh well together, some sprites choices are... questionable. The music doesn't mesh well either, the tunes come from a variety of different games and don't use the original SMW sound engine. Hearing a Mega Man tune while doing an original SMW level feels weird for instance. The hack as is needs a lot of work and polish to be good. So this is a no for me.
| Rough around the edges but has gotten better. | supersonicjc | 2020-11-29 | Version 1.8 |
So this is a nice hack to add a fresh coat of paint to the Mario world game formula, the game for the most part is unchanged aside from some added levels here and there. It is rough though to say the least, Super Mario water graphics are very glaring as his rear end is missing and its very grating to see, some bleeding of colors takes place too and some back ground graphics aren't loading in correctly showing off that it's needing a revamp to fix. Would I recommend it... yeah for the new content and nice additions but that's where I cut the line, there are better hacks out there that don't have slowdown issues or missing or broken graphics. I went to wall jump in spots only to find the wall is broken and I jumped through the wall to my death in spots. If the issues get fixed I would say go for it but for now, there are better hacks out there that do the same and more. Update: So the slowdown was addressed and makes the gameplay feel better and more smoothed out, but sadly the author said v1.3 was the end of updates and that means that the other glaring issues will just be there and said tough luck, so with that in mind then no hard pass on this game if the creator cant be bothered to fix graphic issues then why bother playing the game, really wish they would fix the color bleeding of sprites and fix the broken sprites before just throwing in the towel. Update 2: Seeing as there were 5 revisions to the game since I wrote my prior update of what was wrong with the game... I had decided to give it another go seeing as the hacker had mentioned they fixed some of my prior issues... And after giving it a final go, this is now a much more polished hack granted there are some issues here and there but I'm happier now knowing the programmer of the hack clearly has listened to complaints or seen the issues and corrected them, I commend them for taking the time to look at the game and file down some of the more glaring issues, so I will change my recommend from no to a yes as the person really did try and I'm glad they decided not to say to hell with it like so many others have done so in the past, maybe as a request if you do make future hacks to maybe beta test them with some friends in the gaming community on discord or something. hint hint! :) It would be a way to catch some bugs earlier on and to get it that more polished feel the first time around instead of several revisions and harsh reviews of the game that you had taken time to make.
| Still Needs a few Touches... | WebSlinger | 2020-11-17 | Version 1.0 |
CONS: The level 1-0 which looks like 1-2 from the NES Mario 1 level, that 1-up on top is 1 extra block over to the right. The end where the warps supposed to be, is a DEAD DEAD end, meaning there is absolutely NO way out unless the timer runs out. The game is extremely laggy, I guess it can't handle the "sprite limit" well. PROS: great music, terrific sprites and color, and the wall jump mechanic works pretty well. I've only reached the very first boss so far but the fight way so laggy I quit the game. I tested the game in SNES9x and BSNES.
| A spectacular SMW hack!!! | darthvaderx | 2020-11-17 | Version 1.0 |
One of the most spectacular Super Mario World hacks ever, it's incredible the variety of scenarios and tracks that were used in the game, the only however is that some parts could not be changed, but that does not change the final result that was very good.
| Not That New | Shauing | 2020-11-17 | Version 1.0 |
New Super Mario World only it's ''new\'' in its makeover, with better palette in its background and foreground elements and sprites as well as new music, ranging (from what I could recognize) from New Super Mario Bros., to Sonic and Mega Man which is done very well. There's also a few new levels like a recreation of SMB1 Levels 1-1 and 1-2 on one same level which are very faithful (and contrary to what the first reviewer says, you can get out of there, as you can backtrack -this is SMW not SMB1-). But that's all the positives I can give, as there's barely new content, there's even removed stuff like the palette and sprite change to enemies when beating ''Special World\'', whose music is removed too (as well as Star World). When reaching Valley of Bowser via the star warp(which is a cannon now), for some reason it spawns on the unused red switch location instead of to the left of Bowser's Castle, and the special exit on Valley of Bowser that would lead to it goes nowhere, only bounces you back (with a mistitled Valley Fortress level name). It could be a wrong rom but there's also noticeable graphical glitches (such as the ending credits starting where the ''Thank You\'' sprite appears), palette/background layer issues and hitboxes/collision not coinciding with the new sprites; for example, on the seventh special world level has some palmtrees towards the end whose collision is off and invisible. Plus if there's too many sprites around that area the level ending goal ends up broken thus the level is unbeatable. In the end, it is more of a reskin of SMW with very few new levels, so don't get your hopes up. It still needs some polish/fix (unless the rom I had was wrong, but I tried the one posted above but didn't work). I would love it to be an actual hack with full new levels instead of just a few and a new coat of paint and sounds. It's fully playable though.
