Hack description

Spider-Man / X-Men in Arcade's Redux is a massive balance patch to improve
gameplay and tone down difficulty of the infamous original.

v2 Changes:
SRAM Function

Saving:
Game saves after every life lost.

Loading:
At the Spider-Man Security level skip screen after the title. Highlight Yes and Hold B.


Global Changes:
-Always have the option to skip stage 1
-Wolverine and Storm's Music has been Restored in their respective levels
-Start with 5 lives

Spider-Man:
-Spider-Man moves faster
-Spider-Man can wall crawl faster
-Spider-Man has a longer invincibility window after being hit
-Spider-Man's Webs do 2 times as much damage
-Rhino has less health (Stage 2 Boss)

Wolverine:
-Wolverine has a longer invincibility window after being hit
-Wolverine regenerates health faster
-Wolverine can always regenerate health
-Wolverine's jumps have lower gravity
-Apocalypse recieves a health buff (Stage 1 Boss)
-Juggernaut moves slower (Stage 2 Boss)

Gambit:
-Gambit's real name in the briefing screen has been changed to Remy LeBeau
-Gambit has infinite cards
-Card meter has been removed from HUD
-Gambit's card decks are now exclusively used for special attack
-Gambit has a longer invincibility window after being hit
-Gambit's jumps have lower gravity
-Enemies in Gambit's stage have reduced health
-King of Cards has less health (Stage 1 Boss)

Storm:
-Doors are destroyed in 1 hit
-Storm's oxygen meter depletes at a much slower rate
-Electric barriers to 1/5th damage to Storm
-Storm's oxygen meter is replenished immediately upon resurfacing
-Orb Boss has 1/2 health (Stage 1 Boss)

Cyclops:
-Cyclops' fire rate never degrades when health is low
-Cyclops has a longer invincibility window after being hit
-Cyclops' jumps have lower gravity
-Enemies in Cyclops's stage have reduced health
-Master Mold has reduced health (Stage 2 Boss)

Note about Juggernaut (Wolverine Stage 2):
Juggernaut starts with 24 health, dropping anvils on him deals anywhere from 1-4 hp in damage.
However, Juggernaut will remain at 2hp until the very last pillar before the giant toy bin.

Dropping half to two thirds amount of anvils on him will ensure victory. Slash him at the last pillar
and he will be defeated. Slashing him before this point deals no damage and only serves to slow him down.

Note About Rhino (Spider-Man Stage 2):
Rhino can only be hurt by swinging into him, it will take six or so hits to defeat him.

It's a tradition of the 80's see how beloved comic/movie licenses were marred by companies like LJN.

Especially sad was the case of this game, cause technically it's... ok, and the general concept is pretty cool. And where was the catch? In that after finishing the training stage the difficulty curve shoots up, and it will take us very short time to hate it, and I emphasize the word HATE, no matter how much you like the characters.

This patch is not perfect because the original game is not, but now the difficulty is much more friendly, and allows at least that we do not get frustrated so quickly and we can learn the patterns or the best way to overcome certain obstacles without eliminating the challenge.

I highly recommend this hack. I only hope that it's author will do the same with the SNES version, because it's slightly better in every aspect.
