Hack description

This hack features some new music tracks with SUNSOFT DPCM samples.
No GFX or Levels are changed, only some text (Toad Ending).
VRC6 IRQ is enabled, but it's a bit buggy, since PPU changes scroll base at the
wrong times occasionally. Thank you for playing.

Epylepsy Warning! This hack contains flashing effects that might potentially be a problem for some players! As with all games, player caution is advised.

A wonderful hack held back by odd decisionsDoodle_Dangernoodle2021-09-13Version 1.0

When I initially first saw this and tried it out, the first impressions were great! Sunsoft has a distinct and recognizable sound and the author pulled this off with flying colors!

However, the other choices this author made in regards to the hack left me scratching and rubbing my head. The inclusion of the (admittedly catchy and great cover of) Nyan Cat theme replacing the Starman theme was not really warranted in the grand scheme of the hack. Having a separate patch to have the original Starman theme with the added percussion and sampling would be really nice to stay true to the vanilla soundtrack.

Although the author has put out a disclaimer which is great, it is confusing and baffling they added this epileptic mess in the first place when it really doesn't add anything positive to their hack. Many people here clearly are against this addition and I am one of those included. So I would advise the author to either remove this effect entirely, or for those that can handle it and may indeed like the effect, have a separate patch just for them.

There truly is a great hack here, as the new musical covers are wonderful, but the personal liberties taken by the author are just plain bizarre and unwarranted in what is advertised on the tin.

I rarely play hacks, but this particular one is brilliant.BomberMD2021-03-11Version 1.0

If you strictly judge by the description, it seems that the hack is simple, except for the music, but in fact, the work here is done perfectly, even including the description for the hack itself. The idea is really amazing, to draw attention to the hack through the changed music, and leave a hint in the descriptions of the hack. I won't reveal the details, it's worth trying it yourself.

I highly recommend playing with headphones, especially in the later stages.

As for the hack itself, when you take a star, some people can really catch epilepsy, I recommend making a separate hack by cutting out the flicker on the star pickup.

As for the voice samples, almost everything is hard to understand what is being said, with the exception of the Toad ending.

I played on real hardware, there are some flicks like frame skipping only on background when scrolling, but on the whole they are almost invisible.

Some people must be insane...Jeansowaty2021-02-04Version 1.0

The hack has its fair share of novelties that I believe should have been pointed out... but it's not a bad hack at all! Hacking music for SMB is a very hard thing to do, bringing a new sound engine into the game is a very big thing. It's a good idea to use this patch after you're done hacking levels, to have the different music and stuff in your hack.

Interesting, but dangeroussics2021-02-03Version 1.0

I finished playing it a while ago and I am still dizzy, also I feel as if everything was moving slowly, although I will not deny it, I had fun trying it, especially with levels greater than 4, of which my favorite was 8-Z since it seems to be created by reading RAM, which always creates a totally different scenario, where very strange things happen.

My recommendations, reduce the flash or eliminate it and perhaps expand the idea of themes and / or random levels, it is great to visit a Bowser castle underwater or discover unique levels.

By the way, if you find the crow more than once the red blink effect accelerates its speed.

In conclusion, it is a shame that such an outstanding work is overshadowed by inconsequential aspects to which the objective of the hack refers.

Either Needs Epilepsy Warning or Alterated EntirelyUJC2021-02-02Version 1.0

This is interesting from a technical standpoint and as a proof of concept it's pretty neat but man, you need to put an epilepsy warning on this. The palette cycle that plays now when you get a Starman needs either removed entirely or slowed down substantially before it gives someone a seizure, I'm lucky the only thing I get from effects like that is a bad case of vertigo.
