Hack description

This hack fixes quite a lot of graphical glitches in the game, as well as a few other bugs, and adds some polish when needed.

For instance:
- A lot of enemies had sprites issues, wrong tiles being used, sprites being offset, etc
- Most Footsoldier used beta tiles, even though final version tiles were used for other variants of that enemy in the game
- The turtle face used as a cursor in menus actually had an un-used variant... with a smile!
- Even cutscenes had issues!
- Etc... See the readme file for a full list of fixes and improvements!

Updated to v1.2: More fixes!

Excellent Hack That's Hard To AppreciateEldrethor2021-03-20Version 1.2

I have to admit that this was a tricky hack to fully take in. As a kid, TMNT2 was a staple in my NES collection, but I never picked up on the problems with the graphics until MetHy pointed out them out several years later.

The thing about this game is that since it's derived from a quarter-munching arcade beast, it doesn't take much for enemies to quickly pummel you. Between the barrage of sprite-flickering foot soldiers and bosses that ravage your health meter, you need to be focused on the action in order to survive each stage with as many lives as possible, but this also diverts a lot of attention away from the handful of graphical issues that litter the game.

The most obvious new detail is the smiling turtle graphic that he restored on the title screen, and I did spot the restored hand in the first cutscene, but many of his fixes are pretty subtle, and I'm so engrossed in trying to survive that much of it flies over my head. It's one of those things where you have to stop and pause the game in order to truly appreciate the work that was done, and even then, I had to do a few before-and-after takes to compare the differences.

At the end of the day, the game feels neater overall with the hack, and I'm glad to have the cleaner graphics. Highly recommended, and hats off to MetHy for an awesome job!
