| Excellent New Twist on a Classic Game | Dippy-Dawg | 2022-12-11 | Version 1.13 |
I am new to the hacking scene and this hack is the first one I figured out how to apply to the original ROM. I thoroughly love the new gameplay style which adds that new twist that makes the game worth playing again. I also like the professional layout of the new options menu. Also, thank you for changing "Ultra Games" to Konami. This hack was done very well.

Back in the day, TMNT2 was an absurdly hard game, and I spent countless grueling hours trying to beat it. Even with cheat codes, Shredder's obnoxious one-hit-KO lightning ray made sure that you had to work for your victory. Nesrocks really went above and beyond with this hack, and it shows. The new Options menu is incredibly robust and packs a ton of settings that change the game significantly. The Lives and Init Stage settings render the cheat codes obsolete, which is nice because Konami went with some unmemorable combination of inputs instead of their classic code. The Sound Test and being able to change Continues are a nice touch as well. What really blows me away are the Difficulty and Fighting settings, which drastically smooth out the game's wildly janky combat. For once, I'm not using special attacks exclusively out of necessity because foot soldiers are more vulnerable to regular hits. These options also leave room for purists by retaining all of the settings needed to recreate the original experience, and there's even a Mania mode for hardcore players who want to go harder. Even nicer is the ability to combine this with the Bugfix and Revamped hacks. The end result is a competent arcade port with fluid controls, attacks that feel impactful, and clean graphics. Between the three hacks, it's pretty clear that the base game was pushed out in an unpolished state, and I feel like this hack is the capstone that this game has needed for a long time. I can't praise this hack enough. Together with the two other hacks, it elevates the game to a level where the game now feels smooth and balanced, and leaves room for players to customize the experience to their liking. My only gripe (and it's a minor one) is that this trifecta of hacks leaves the Pizza Hut signs removed, and I would love it if there were some way to restore them. Yeah, it's obnoxious corporate advertising, but it's a piece of 90's nostalgia that I was sad to see gone. That aside, the changes are so significant that I can't go back to the base game.
| Hunga for another Cowabunga with this hack! | eskayelle | 2021-06-15 | Version 1.13 |
There's a certain caliber of romhack you come to expect from Nesrocks, and with TMNT 2 - Options mode, he delivers yet again. The options make the game feature rich, while the new fighting style provides another layer to the game, tagging on that much more replay value. While I'd have loved Konami to have converted this classic to a 16-bit format back in the day, this hack breathes some fresh new life into the NES game and makes you want to pick it up one more time...
| Play TMNT 2 your way. | peacefighter | 2021-04-04 | Version 1.0 |
This does what it set out to do. If you want to listen to the music, it has that. If you want to choose your life or continue count, got you there too. If you want to play the game starting at a certain level, you are covered too. It even has a difficulty option. All the options are there from the start menu. There is no Konami code. You can just play the way you want. Any TMNT fan should have this ROM hack. Simple premise done amazing well. Would I recommend this? Yes. This is an amazing update to an amazing game!
| The game is perfect now | KevvyLava | 2021-04-04 | Version 1.0 |
Perfect update to an already great game. You can set a higher/lower difficulty and change the number of lives/continues to customize the challenge you want. Anything you can do in the original using codes, you can do with this. Perfect! Even has a sound test.
