Ah, Epyon: the absurdly overpowered last boss with incredible reach and speed, and a cheap super move that restored way too much weapon energy. For that very reason, it has always been locked away with a cheat code, and was only useable in Versus or Trial Mode. This leaves only Story Mode where the cheat doesn't work, which I always felt was a bit lazy, so I was glad to see a hack like this pop up.

Unfortunately, the presentation is absolute trash. Once you move that cursor off-screen, Epyon is selected, but the graphics and stats presented in the player select UI are a buggy mess, and you can't move the cursor back to the main grid. Instead, pressing other directions continues moving it off-screen, selecting other characters as it does. Once you make your pick, the game continues as normal, so it technically works but is horribly sloppy, and I would have appreciated some polish there.

I also played it through to the end, and there's no ending sequence. Instead, the game returns to the opening cutscene after beating Wing Zero as a last boss. This isn't surprising, since Epyon was never meant to be playable in Story Mode, and this is perhaps the most elegant way to end that mode.

I will recommend this hack on the grounds that it works and does deliver on what it promises, but I can't say that I'm a fan of the sloppy graphical issues, and I do hope that CF will address them in a later patch. I would also love to see Epyon rebalanced so that I can't just trample everything with that nasty self-restoring super move, but that's stretching into some ambitious territory.

First off, Endless Duel is an absolutely amazing game on the SNES and I always recommend trying it. One thing that always got me was how you couldn't choose Epyon in story mode, but through a long long code input you could use him in the other modes. Well thanks to this patch its now possible to not only play Epyon in story mode, but no more long code input to select him! I love how some love was given to this game, and I want to thank the author for doing this patch for us Gundam fans!
