I'm a huge fan of the original game after playing this, it's a shame so many people skip it. This version includes the original script/dialogue + sprites without censorship, a must play for any earthbound/mother fan. The ending almost had me in tears.

At long last, Mother can be played the way it was meant to be played. It's sadly quite rare for English speakers to get an experience that's on par with what Japanese speakers get in old games. And this fixes it all to such an extent that even the first thing you see is FINALLY grammatically correct: "Produced by Nintendo. Shigesato Itoi presesnts...". The logo is spot on, uses Tomato's translation, doesn't make half the enemy sprites ugly (looking at YOU, Anniversary Edition), and even has two naming scheme options.

This is the perfect patch.

Tho only downside is that I can't get lost in the original layout of Magicant Underground and Holy Loly Mountain. But the layouts used here were made after Nintendo/Ape received feedback from players, and they admitted that Holy Loly Mountain was harder than they meant for it to be due to some rush at the end. So it's probably for the best after all.

This is the version of MOTHER that I've been waiting for since Mato's MOTHER 1+2 hack was released. All previous attempts to retranslate this game came with their own issues but this one nails everything it aims to do and makes for the most authentic version of MOTHER you can play.

One thing that I would love to be added would be the addition of the original Famicom maps instead of the modified versions all future releases used. Maps like the original Magicant caves, and the pathway to Mt Itoi/Holy Loly Mt are much more complex and interesting in their original form and I'd love to have a chance to explore them again without having to fumble with Japanese.

Overall though I highly highly recommend this hack if you want to play this game as close to the original version as possible!

Coincidentally, I was just about to play through Mother 1 with a friend. He preferred to play an authentic experience over hacks like Anniversary. While looking for a fitting patch, we found this, uploaded about a month ago.

As described, this hack keeps aesthetics and gameplay exactly like the original game, except with a better, more authentic translation and uncensoring being done. You could play the GBA version (whose fan translation is the exact same), but I always prefer a bigger screen and I think the music sounds a bit better too.

This is great for people who just want the original experience but with a more accurate script/graphics that allude to the developer's intent.
