Hack description

This patch will restore the japanese version of River City Ransom, called Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari, using the plot, names and graphics of japanese game, replacing several sprites, managing to restore Japanese graphics to the characters. RCR names were replaced with DNM names (Alex to Kunio, Ryan to Riki...) and all the text were adapted, using the official script of PS4/Switch official translation. The title screen will remains the same, It's a mess and almost impossible to change it only editing sprites. Also, ArcSys still uses River City in the new games, so there's nothing wrong with that.

There's a known problem in the arm of some enemies that will be white. If the color is changed, the eye of this character changes for this color too. For this reason, it will remains white.

For now, all River City/Kunio-kun beat'em up games are localized by community. Hope you enjoy.

The best way for Kunio-Kun enthusiasts to play RCR	Supergamerguy	2021-08-03	Version 1.0
I've just recently gotten into the Kunio-Kun series, and this hack was a great starting point for my playthrough of the franchise. The combination of the iconic River City Ransom title screen with the characters and story of the original Japanese game was a masterful decision, and it's implemented almost perfectly. The only issue I ever had when playing was that the bottom half of Kunio's Acro Circus somersault stayed blue instead of keeping up with his pants as the sprite spun around. Other than that small, insignificant detail, the rest of this hack was phenomenal. I can't thank the developers enough for finally integrating the English localization of RCR into the Kunio-Kun series as a whole. Now if only someone would fix the soft lock you might run into if you miss a boss before going into the warehouse to fight Thor/Kobayashi......

With all the japanese content/script restoration patches that keep popping up, I always wondered how was that no one did something similar for River City Ransom/Downtown Nekketsu Story, but now at last, FANS did it. The readme states a visual bug with arms being white in some sprite frames, but considering these are supposed to be japanese students, it's fair to see it as the white shirt under their school jacket sleeves, so even though it's not intentional, it's by no means out of place. The only detail that feels out of place are the little boys, which were originally different girl sprites, walking around the shops. They have a goofier look that the rest of the characters, maybe because they were drawn by a different artist, and, it may be that by this hack being based on the american version instead of a translation from the japanese rom, it's something hard to edit back. Beyond that detail, if you like the original game or Kunio's franchise, give this one a go!

Fans pulled it off & he did a really cool job on this hack, this game doesn't get the love it deserves in my opinion. Even if there's an issue about some of the enemies' arms being white, it ain't game breaking, it plays so fast you don't even notice it. This is a solid hack & all of you should give it a go from start to finish, especially us RCR gurus. Hey Fans you did good, brotha! Congrats!
