Hack description

This hack is a request from Super Buni (hope you enjoy it!). The main concept? Redo Super Bros. 8, one of those pirate cartridges that were everywhere in flea markets in the '90s.

The original game, Don Doko Don 2, was developed by Natsume and published by Taito exclusively in Japan in 1992. Because its creators never bothered to hide the fact that they were inspired by Nintendo's mascot, this game is an excellent basis for creating a hack that feels like an official Mario game, or at least, a third-party installment made with Nintendo's permission.

For more details, check the readme file or simply download it, play it and have fun!

A great job from an expert.edwinmusic2021-07-16Version 1.0

A great job highly recommended for those who enjoyed the first version of Mario Bros 8. and for those who have not played it, this work is highly recommended.

Truly a labor of loveSupergamerguy2021-07-15Version 1.0

This is a truly spectacular hack. It's plain to see that the author put a lot of time and effort into his art and strove as hard as possible to make this feel like a real Mario title. Each new character, enemy, and boss feels both distinct from their original Don Doko Don 2 counterparts and accurate to their Mario source material. I cannot recommend this hack enough for both its creativity and a fresh take on an (un)familiar title. This is a must play for any Mario fans out there.

Now this is really coolGoogie2021-07-15Version 1.0

I just played to level three, and so far I like what I see. Crying Onion did it again, this hack really feels authentic like if Nintendo took the Mario formula and threw in different ingredients.

I hope that Crying Onion takes the first game and give it the Mario flavor, it'll feel like a complete franchise.

I'm glad to see this hack hosted on the site, I'll play through it some more so I can enjoy the rest of this classic. ;)

Better than Super Bros. 8Vallenatero20152021-07-15Version 1.0

Although I still remember that pirate game Super Bros. 8, this Super Mario Bros. 8 has improved over the previously mentioned game. Not only does he replace the protagonists with Mario and Luigi, but he also replaces various enemies, including the boss of the final world with Bowser. Anyway, this hack is a work of art, that's why I recommend it.
