It's a really great hack. It's always a plus to get the real Japanese translation. The only tiny thing to fix, is for example the grammar of "Ness's House" when you name him Ness (should be Ness' House).

A faithful uncensored translation of the original game including the sprites, and without useless changes that ruin the original game.

I was a fan of Maternalbound, so much that I hardpatched my Japanese cartridge of Mother 2 with a custom burned IC ROM of Maternalbound. The title screen was an issue though, glad that's finally fixed. Noticed some other hacks claiming to be the definitive version, but totally missed the point, adding tons of unnecessary compromises for Earthbound haters, like name icons breaking up the text box aesthetic. Glad someone finally made a faithful fan translation patch with the epic MOTHER 2 title screen. I tried doing this in 2007 using PKHack, I was 13 years old. I didn't get very far, just trying to replace every instance of "Pokey" with "Porkey" seemed to break the game.

Only criticism, and it comes down to my personal taste as an old-head Mother fan: YOU WON! is better than YOU WIN!, giving Brick Road a cockney accent sounds really weird, I don't think your typical American is very good at writing in cockney anyways and it usually turns out pretty bad. (Tomato rocks, but I don't always agree with his localization choices! just a matter of personal taste, remember that he claims Earthbound is **not** his favorite game, after all!) Giygas and Gyigue can really go either way at this point, just like Porky and Pokey, they are close enough to where the reader can just infer the relation. However, the title card with the UFO and electric guitar should read "Giygas/Gigue Strikes Back!" like in the original Mother 2 (if it doesn't already in this patch, I don't think it was mentioned in the changelog)

Anyways, thanks again for doing the work, this was much needed, and I'm going to hard patch my mother 2 cartridge again to have this. It will be the version I give to my children when they're old enough. I'm also a fan of Y button being Run, since the other two games have a run button, and skip sandwiches don't last long enough. Just a personal preference though after playing the game 20 times, otherwise I wouldn't change the game at all!

One last big thanks from me, and hopefully I didn't offend anyone with this review. The world deserves and pure and faithful version of this game that is still so ahead of its time.

This hack has brought back my interest in EarthBound again! It's great to experience the 100% original version with a polished English translation.
