Unbelievable!Mother Kojiro2017-11-13Version 3.3

This is genius. Guardian Legend Secret is a wholly new mind-blowing experience with absolutely no hacking done to the graphics or sound; proof that you don't need a custom tileset to create a masterpiece. I've played an older version of this hack and this still totally blew me away. Full disclosure: I'm a huge Guardian Legend nerd, and that's a big part of why I love this so much, but most anyone seeking an intense challenge will find something to enjoy here. Enough gushing; let's get down to details.

This hack provides a new, more thoughtful order in which to acquire the subweapons that's based more upon their actual strength and usefulness; you'll get some Level 2 or maybe 3 weapons before getting several of the Level 1 weapons, but when you have something as broken as the Fireball, that's to make sure that most of them aren't totally obsolete the moment you grab them. You'll need them, too; by the end, the corridors, or even some of the labyrinths are so intense that your regular fire isn't going to cut it. Enemies you wouldn't encounter until much later can show up near the beginning of the game, and even some minibosses now show up during regular gameplay. Bosses are a treat, too; many of them have new palettes and speeds, and you don't know what's going to show up where. Combine that with the totally new layout for the labyrinth, and you have a clear sense of foreboding just by looking at that long, winding path that leads to Corridor 10. The corridors are completely redesigned, too, including enemy placement, background decoration (for lack of a better word), and even what you have to do to get 1-10 to open, so even veterans of the original will need those hints to get in, and Optomon even removed the more tedious ones! Corridor 21 has an entirely new tileset, too; one that actually makes sense! The golden Bombarder and the new final boss are total jerk things to do, but it's okay, Optomon; I still adore you.

Great hack Optomon!

I consider myself an expert at this game and your challenge was right on the money. Some nice surprises, different maps, and oh, how I hate the light...

Some of the labyrinth type bosses were WTF is going on here and some struggles were had. I'm surprised the frame rate held up during the corridor flying segments considering the boatload of enemies on the screen. I'm not sure if the computer drop rate was increased or if it's because you're killing that many more enemies that computers kept showing up. After awhile, the regular bullets can't kill fast enough and it's all about the secondary weapons. I'm glad the red landers had plenty of chips to spare...

I definitely recommend to experienced players.
