| One of the funniest and most creative rom hacks I've ever played! | SkyLink | 2022-09-11 | Version 1.0 |
I just loved this ROM hack. I always wanted to play Super Mario Galaxy, 3D Land and 3D World, but my PC is not that good and I don't have the consoles. With this hack I felt like I was playing all of them and it felt great. The creativity put together with the great level design is amazing. Linearity is not a problem and the exploration of the levels was super fun to delve into - I will definitely replay at some point. If I have anything to complain about, it would be that phase of the fridge and the bathroom, and the camera of the game that could have been changed in the ROM hack. Also, the vanilla camera of the SM64 doesn't help at different times. Being able to freely move the camera to any angle would help a little!
| So much potential, but desperately needs work | sarysa | 2022-08-20 | Version 1.0 |
I love the concept, as I prefer the 3D Land series over the other two platformer series for two reasons: The camera isn't actively trying to murder me, and it's more interesting than the 2D games. This game manages to encapsulate that aspect of the 3D Land series, and even makes the world maps interesting by having them be playable. Unfortunately, it falls short in execution. A lot of care was taken WRT making interesting levels, but the controls and gimmicks need polish. This also seems to be one of those examples where the creator plays a fangame so much that they lose all scope of difficulty. There are no checkpoints, and every level must be played all the way through. This first becomes a problem in 1-3, where getting hit by any fire is a guaranteed death. The stage is also long and precise. 2-1 is where I met my demise, however, as this level introduces two mechanics: the cat suit and bouncy platforms. The bouncy platforms ramp up insanely in difficulty, with the later 2/3 of the level being frankly hellish. The fact they stuck a diagonal platform in a position where greenhorns will frequently accidentally float to their deaths, along with it being a crapshoot whether or not you can even use it to get to the next platform, to there being a later even tighter sequence of these over bottomless pits combine to create a wall at the start of the second world. There's no way to just skip it either. You cannot access other stages unless you get a stage's goal star. You won't have enough stars to fight the boss either. On top of everything, Project 64 can't seem to handle certain stages and BizHawk's N64 save states just do not work, so I can't even cheat my way past. The other problem with the controls is they retain the same floatiness that 64 has, but the 3D Land series did away with. The obstacles presented in this game, for the most part, would be a lot more reasonable with tighter controls, but often times you end up dying simply because you're walking on eggshells trying not to accidentally quarter turn and end up in a pit. I should be the target audience for this. I should be providing rave reviews. Unfortunately, it needs testing and polish to get a recommend. I encourage the creator to update this because I really want to see where it goes - I'm just incapable of doing so.
| This is an excellent Super Mario 64 Mod! | lexluthermiester | 2022-08-20 | Version 1.0 |
This is, without a doubt, the best Super Mario 64 Mod project I've ever played. It captures the feel of Super Mario 3D Land very well. While veteran players will find old tricks working well, there are some new tricks to be used. The game mechanics are the same well loved SM64 fare, but there are new things to be experienced. Level design is well thought out as is enemy placement. The challenge is there, but not too much. If you enjoyed the original game, you will like this experience. New players should sit down with the original game to be at least familiar with how the Super Mario 64 works and what to expect. Not offering spoilers here, just grab this patch, apply it and enjoy! You're in for great fun!
