Hack description

Super Mario Advance, like many Game Boy Advance games, features bright and washed out colors in order to compensate for the unlit screen of the console's original model.

This hack replaces the palettes in the "Super Mario 2 / USA" portion of the game with the ones from the SNES (Super Mario All-Stars) version where applicable. The palettes for the new objects, screens and menus were also updated to go along with the imported palettes. Additionally, a few graphics have been altered to fix some oddities or to match how they looked in the SNES version.

As for the "Mario Bros." portion of the game, all palettes have been adjusted to have their brightness slightly toned down.

Additional information can be found in the "Readme" file included.

Even better than Asaki's color restoration, must-have hacksaulfabreg2022-01-28Version 1.2

This is a must-have hack for all lovers of Super Mario Advance!

It's just better and better, rather than Asaki's "color restoration" of SMA. I see it's very complete than the old one, and also compatible with the most common ROM of Super Mario Advance i find and play.

Thanks a lot for this!! - saulfabreg

Incredible hack, must try outSuperStarFox2022-01-22Version 1.2

This hack makes this into a proper port of Super Mario Bros. 2 on the Game Boy Advance. All of the bright colors are changed to resemble the SNES All Stars game and changed Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Princess Peach look far more accurate. The Mario Bros. game also had its colors tweaked to look exactly more like a 16 bit port of the original arcade game.

Although the "Choose A Game" text has some tiny white lines left over, but that isn't too much to fix a little. The bosses and enemies have the same colors from the SNES port while some new bosses were given a new color design to look less bright.

This is totally worth a try, you can also play it along with the music pitch correction to get the most enjoyable experience that Nintendo never actually thought of before.

Very Faithful to the original remaster of the original gameJohnny0082021-12-23Version 1.0

The bright colors were really great back in 2001 when you played it on original hardware but nowadays it looks not necessarily horrible but too bright in terms of playing it on a emulator. Glad this hack exists.

Excellent RestorationNelsonPalacios20012021-12-23Version 1.0

To tell the truth the original color range was very bright because the first model of gba ags-001 did not have backlight making the screen look like off, but from the sp model and even the ags-101 model if it had backlighting and that is evident the range of bright colors in the following models of this game. But this patch restores the range of colors as standard as possible and make it more faithful to that of super mario bros. 2 of the super mario all-stars of snes.
