No, it's not bad. It's just not Seiken Denstsu 3, or Final Fantasy V.johnnyfog2023-04-18Version 1.0

Pros:

The mod description is right: OG Trigger quickly becomes a 'nuke the enemy into oblivion before it can move' game (Crono/Ayla + Falcon Hit + Frog Heal) unless enemies know how to deal with it.

Cons:

I'm trying to spam single techs and the reward is six enemies with counters. I can deal with it, but it feels like almost every enemy casts Lock. It gets annoying.

Good, but not entirely successful:

Toma offers stat upgrades, which.... I'm not sure how useful they are, to tell the truth. The biggest nerf is to melee. Too many beefy enemies and it can be a slugfest. My party had two tanks who got wiped early due to the mechanics. There are more melee-resistant bosses, so spell buffs are essential.

inuksuk apparently has a fondness for Marle. They wanted to take the worst character and see if she could be salvaged. An improved crossbow and MT Cure 2 are actually really good. But it just yielded an inferior copy of Frog/Robo. General "Kimahri sucks again" vibes here.

Made me love Chrono Trigger againWightraven2021-12-24Version 1.0

I'd been trying in vain to re-play Chrono Trigger until I was told about this hack. While combat in the original felt sometimes counter-intuitive, tedious, and often slow, almost every battle in this mod makes it feel exciting. I love that I need to think about what I'm doing in every boss fight, and how the multitude of different options to build your characters gives you so many ways to experience the game. It adds difficulty without feeling impossible, gives you so many more options by limiting the number of 'best in slot' items and glaringly obvious stat-up choices, and even though I've finished it twice already, I'm eagerly awaiting the next chance I get to play.

My standout favorite overhaul is Lucca, a character I outright ignored in my previous playthroughs of the game who I find now has a delightful amount of complexity with her status-inflicting weapons and distinct build paths. Every character has received some love and attention, however, and the game offers you compelling reasons to keep all of your characters in rotation to better handle different combat scenarios.

An absolutely fantastic way to re-experience a classicJulfordio2021-12-23Version 1.0

I'm a huge fan of Chrono Trigger, and have played more than a few rom hacks. The biggest pitfall that a lot of hacks fall into is adding in a bunch of cool/unique toys for characters to play with that end up completely trivializing what was already an easy game. Enhansa Edition does not have that problem - everything added, everything changed, is done in a way that enhances the game, but it never becomes too easy because of those changes.

Enemies are tuned to be a challenge all game long - don't expect to breeze through battles just mashing the Fight command! You'll need to change your approach to each fight based on what enemies are present, lest you end up dying under a barrage of counter attacks or just plain losing the DPS race because you didn't bother healing. A lot of bosses have also received new gimmicks, whether it be added vulnerabilities to character Techs (Slash does something against more bosses than just Masamune now!), or a complete overhaul of their battle scripts (The various Black Omen Mutant bosses especially). The final battles will require you to bring your best equipment, as Lavos doesn't mess around - equip yourself to survive their strongest attacks, and be ready to pivot your strategy and react when a core character goes down!

Character builds are an amazing addition to the game, letting you specialize characters to the task you're using them for, and in general adding incredible replay value to the mod. Marle becomes a premier damage dealer for endgame bosses if you focus on her physical damage, but boosting her magic stat does give her a lot more healing utility. Robo can become the unkillable tank that is able to recover the party from some of the scariest attacks bosses have, or he can forsake his defenses entirely so that he can unleash the strongest bonks in the game. Every build option is viable and brings a lot of utility to the characters involved, and it's easily my favorite addition to the mod overall.
